[efloraofindia:321258] ... plebeium VS plebejum

2019-05-07 Thread Dinesh Valke
Dear friends,

... *plebejum* seems to be a proper epithet. It is found in quite a few
scientific names.
I assume *Polygonum plebeium* R.Br. and *Polygonum plebejum* R.Br. are
synonymous ... not sure whether there is any mistake in doing so.
Is one of them in Greek and other in Latin ?
They both mean same ... "common", and are even pronounced the same plebeium
 /
plebejum
.
Please throw some light on this close names.

Regards.
Dinesh

I examined and photographed these plants this year also and during my

 again.
In Flora of Himachal Pradesh Gagea reticulata is mentioned and after
comparing with the images on gbif site i am almost sure that this is Gagea
 reticulata.
 Here's the link

India Biodiversity Portal):
*Acalypha malabarica *Müll.Arg.

All spikes axillary and sessile, short, up to 3 cm long, androgynous,
finely pubescent. Male flowers ca 0.5 mm across, very few, clustered near
the apex of spikes. Female flowers 2-2.5 mm across, *6-8 along the basal
portion of the spike*; *bracts* alternate, foliaceous, *subcampanulate,
funnel-shaped*, folded, ca 5 mm across, *shallowly toothed, bordered with
long gland-tipped hairs along peripheral portion and margin, *pilose, hairy
or nearly glabrous, roughly coriaceous, gland-dotted, many-nerved.

*Acalypha lanceolata *Willd.

Spikes axillary, erect, sessile or peduncled and androgynous, 1.5-8 cm
long, nearly glabrous or finely pubescent. Three-fourth of the spikes is
occupied by female bracts and the male flowers are clustered only at the
one-fourth upper portion. *Bracts number about 18-20,* *campanulate to
subcampanulate or cup- shaped*, folded, 3-4 mm across, *crenate-dentate,
shallowly dentate or conspicuously 9 to 12-toothed with acute teeth along
margins, pubescent, strongly parallel-veined, and gland-dotted. *

2019-05-07 Thread D.S Rawat
Yes it matches well with *G. bulbifera* (Pall.) Salisb.
The specimen at Kew (shown in your link of POWO) was determined by Shyamali
Dasgupta who has also written Fascicle 23 of Flora of India which included
Gagea. I checked the description in this document which matches.
Bulbiferous cauline leaves are characteristic feature here.
Species is known only from Himachal Pradesh in India. It may be a rare
species as Dasgupta mentioned only two specimens - E.R.Johnson at CAL, and
J.R.Drummond at Kew. Both must be very old. Flora of Himachal Pradesh has
not mentioned this species.
