Leaves of *H.rosa-sinensis* are quite different. Check for *Hibiscus
mutabilis. *Confederate rose. Also watch for the change of colour in the
flowers .

No, not A. macrocarpon - it is A. anisopterum.
A. macrocarpon (Blume) Bedd. [note Fee is not the authority - Fee's was an
independent Asplenium macrocarpum (Fee) T.Moore, nothing to do with this
genus] was described from Java, where A. anisopterum does not occur, and is
in fact a synonym of A. puncticaule. A. puncticaule also occurs in S. and
far N.E. India - but is not this present species.
Dr. Santhan ji - I think you really do need access to a modern detailed
botanical book on Indian ferns as these many misidentifications and
misnamings are rather misleading! If you are writing something on ferns
for publication it will clearly need considerable revision.
   Best wishes,
  Chris Fraer-Jenkins.

To: J.M. Garg

Yes, that's D. linearis all right, in its established, stabilised sense.
The other species present in South India is D. taiwanensis, but that is
quite different.
But a nasty little problem arose - the lectotype of D. linearis is
unfortunately a Javan specimen, not the Sri Lankan one most people
thought. In Java the genus is much more complex and the lectotpye is
actually a specimen of the S.E. Asian D. curranii - not noticed by Mazumdar
when he contributed the taxonomy to Callmander & Fumeaux's detailed paper
on Burman's ferns of the Flora Indica (Candollea 2019).
It would be unthinkable to swap over such a widely known name and it
needs a proposal in Taxon to conserve the name Polypodium lineare Burm.f.
with a new conserved type. That will of course be recommended, but will
take time for final decision to be made. In the meantime we should go on
calling this plant D. linearis...
CRFJ.

I thought all would know that Paraleptochilus is a synonym of Leptochilus
as it has been published since Sledge (1957) onwards - so Leptochilus,
please.

However this is not L. decurrens (syn. variabilis), a bit narrow in both
fronds (though that is variable), and more importantly too smooth with
veins hardly visible. Sedge had a coarse concept when he combined L.
lanceolatus within L. decurrens, which we all followed previously. But
there is good evidence (incl. cytological) that lanceolatus is distinct -
and is in many ways intermediate between L. decurrens and L. thwaitesianus
and I have treated it so in the Annotated Checklist of Indian Pteridophytes
vol. 3.
In my opinion this can only be either L. lanceolatus or L.
thwaitesianus, not decurrens - a bit hard to say which from this photo.
But from its quite large size and the veins partly visible I'd think it
more likely to be L. lanceolatus than thwaitesianus.
