Subject: [efloraofindia:75136] unided herb from Arunachal Pradesh
To:

Hi,

A common herb in the forest floor in subtropical forests of Namdapha.
Locals fry the young leaves of this plant and eat it. They say that this
plant cures digestive problems. Was wondering if anybody could identify
this for me.

Photographed in Namdapha NP, 600 m asl.

thanks

Re: [efloraofindia:395398] Validation is requested

2021-08-16 Thread J.M. Garg
Nomenclature of *Elaeocarpus tectorius* (Lour.) Poir. appears to be quite
confusing.
CoL

lists it as a syn. of *Elaeocarpus robustus *Roxb.
POWO

lists it as an accepted species.
However, this genus has been revised in S.India as per Revision of
Elaeocarpus (Elaeocarpaceae) Section in South India & Sri Lanka – Jstor

: Sue Zmarzty Kew Bulletin Vol. 56, No. 2 (2001), pp. 405-447. As per
this, it should be *Elaeocarpus variablis* Zmarzty, *Kew Bull. 56: 429 2001*.
(Syn: *E. oblongus sensu* Wight & Arn., Prodr. Fl. Indi. Orient. 1: 82-83
(1834) desc. only, excl. synonymy; Wight, Icon. Pl. Ind. Orient. 1: pl. 46
(1838) questionalble with respect to threaa fertile locules; *E. oblongus
sensu* Fyson, Flora of the Nilgiris and Pulney [Palni] Hilltops (1915) t.
35; *E. tectorius sensu* auctt. incl. Ramamoorthy in Saldanha & Nicolson,
Fl. Hassan: 131 (1976) excl. synon. *E. glandulosus sensu* auctt.; Matthew,
Illustration on the Flora of the Palni Hills, South India, pl. 79 (1996);
non *E. tectorius* (Lour.) Poir.) (Maharastra, Karnatak, Kerala & Tamilnadu)
