Dear Surajit Da.

I don't think this is Marasmius rotula. Please check with the images of M.
rotula through Google search and you find noticeable differences.

Re: [efloraofindia:168680] Hooghly -Marasmius sp.?

2013-10-06 Thread Tanay Bose
Dear Surajit Da.

The photos are of Marasmius, but the first two picture and the remaining
ones are from two different species. The mushrooms in the first two
pictures have wiry stipe, I believe its M. siccus. I am not sure of the of
the second species as its morphology is similar to several different
species of Marasmius.

Re: [efloraofindia:163197] Hooghly - Fuligo sp. ???

2013-08-19 Thread Tanay Bose
Dear Surajit Da.

I don't think this is a species of *Fuligo*, because I don't find any
characteristics of Myxomycetes (slime mould) in your images. Rather I would
suggest Basidiomycetes. Anastomosing honeycomb gills and your observation
date reminds me of *Serpula* spp. I think this is *Serpula similis*
(Syn: *Merulius
similis*), usually seen on dead deciduous logs during the monsoon in Bengal.

Re: [efloraofindia:118755] Boraginaceae Week :: Heliotropium ovalifolium at Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

2012-06-05 Thread Tanay Bose
Hi Dinesh ji.
It seems from the Plant List that Euploca ovalifolia is now considered as a
synonym of Heliotropium ovalifolium.
Hence, the current accepted name of the plant is Heliotropium ovalifolium.

Tanay

Hi Anand Ji.
*Jatropha gossypiifolia* is the correct spelling based on the"Plant List"
search.
Whenever I have a ambiguity in spelling I always fall back on Plant List as
its
published by Kew Botanic Garden. Kindly check the link below.

Re: [efloraofindia:115408] Rhoeo discolor like pot plant from Hooghly 01-05-12 SK-1

2012-05-02 Thread Tanay Bose
Hi Surajit Da.
Yes, Rhoeo discolor has two genomes indicated by α & β. During the meiotic
segregation chromosomes comprising of each genomes moves towards the
opposite poles. So that, each gamete has either α or β genome, hence the
heterozygous condition (αβ) is maintained in the filial generation. It is
believed that homozygous condition (αα or ββ) in Rhoeo leads to lethal
mutation. Crossing over and synapsis do happen in the chromosomes but only
at the terminal region of the arms along a restricted part. But, the
sequential and detailed stages are not quite well understood.

2012-05-01 Thread Tanay Bose
Hi Satish Ji.
Does your plant has any potential of being Laguncularia racemosa? This
medium sized mangrove
tree is widely distributed in the tropics. The plant is characterized by
thick, scaly (often reddish) bark
and extra-floral nectaries present at the base of the leaf. Looking at the
2nd photo it seems there
are nectaries present (or may be I am fascinating).

Hi All.
It was a privilege to have Raman Ji in our group. He surely has contributed
a lot for the group and wish he will
continue doing so in future. I did take time to go through his website and
was amazed to see his collection on
Bangalore trees. I really appreciate his efforts in documenting the flora
as well as his scientific approach to
organize them. I believe the website will be helpful in identifying many
common trees in Bangalore and around
India.

2012-04-29 Thread Tanay Bose
Hi All.
Indeed Surajit Ji has made a mammoth contribution to the group and I
believe he will continue doing so it in future.
He is quite an appreciable personality and has every quality to be used as
an example for new members. The basic
pattern of behaviour which most senior and fellow members would expect
along with the hard work are two most
important characters which I find pleasure to bring up. The most awkward
situation for me is probably his suffix of Sir
with my name. I was quite not aware of his age, members like Muthu, me and
e.tc and probably the youngest chaps
in this group, most members are nearly at the dawn of their evolution at
least I am still evolving. Hence, I will kindly
request Surajit ji to remove the suffix as all other members do.
Best wishes,
Tanay

Re: [efloraofindia:114693] Re: glands on Terminalia arjuna

2012-04-25 Thread Tanay Bose
Hi Usha Di.
I should confess that I have no idea about the origin of the bulges on the
leaf they can be caused by leaf anomaly
or may be due to insect infestation. I have seen insects at there larval
stage(?) take shelter inside leaves. I came
to know about this by accident. Once I saw bunch of "mole"
like structures on the mango leaf initially I thought them
to be fungal infection later on making section I found insects within them!
