May be the two  leaf shapes  represents two different species of trees
which are called Indian walnuts.
but are scientifically distinct.
Just like many of the Acer family leaves...
some can be typically maple leaf in its variation, while other Acers can
have simple oblong or ovate or elliptical.
but their fruits are distinctly winged fruits.
they are all called maples with different leaf shapes and are different
species.

etc etc.... i am sure there are many such examples in nature.   I cant
think of one right now.
