Whatever cvs command you run you have to parse the text output. You can't
use the exit code as it only tells you if cvs finished the job with errors or not
(errors like memory overflow or so). But then the cvs output should be the
same on all environments.

Actually... you can do it from the Command line... Just Set CVSROOT=C:\Path Just
thought I'd get that out for the Archive for setting Windows 98 Enviromental Variables.

Okay... I've got the CVS Init to work, *Dances* Thanks all for the help, now I'm
trying to get the Repository to work with WinCVS 1.2, what I can't seem to figure out
how to do is set up a username/password for it. Sorry for all the questions, but I
just have no idea what I'm doing, and you are all so very helpful, so thanks again.

disappearing watchers

2003-06-12 Thread Piet Verhoeve
Hi,

In our cvs systems the watches set by developers seem to 'disappear' from
time to time without the developer explicitly removing the watch. Is this a
known behaviour ? Does anyone have an idea on how to prevent this from
happening ?

thanks,

Piet V.

P.S. we use cvs on a linux box in combination with ssh and WinCVS

Okay... I was digging through the mail archives and couldn't find an
answer to this, so I thought I'd go ahead and ask, how do you set the
CVSRoot enviromental variable on a Windows 98 machine? *Grins sheepishly.*
Thanks in advance.

Um, yeah, or you could just compare "tag-name" to the tag associated with
your current sandbox:

$ awk -FN '{print $2}' < CVS/Tag

Hi,

I have a tag name, and a working directory of some project (without a sticky
tag). I want to know if the tag name denotes the same version as my working
directory. What is the right way to find out?

Suppose that I have just checked-out this working directory (i.e. only the
files from CVS are in the working directory, and I have not touched them) -
is the following algorithm correct?
1. Run: cvs -qn update -r tag-name
2. If this command had no output at all, then the tag name denotes the same
as the checked-out version. If the command had output (either on stdout or
on stderr), then the tag name denotes a different version.
[ In any case, I would prefer a simpler solution, in which I don't need to
check stderr, and preferrably even not stdout, only the exit status of a
command. This is because the algorithm needs to run in several environments.
]

Thanks,
Shlomo
