There are a number of tools that let you view a repository - cvsweb
for instance.

Take a look at subversion - it uses http/webdav as it's protocol.

Hello,

Is there anywhere I can find some good examples of how people have setup
and are using CVS. I am having a hard time figuring out how CVS will
work for us. Currently we are using RCS and we would like to *upgrade*
to CVS. I would think that our situation here is a typically, but since
we are new to CVS, we would like some examples.

Thanks.

FW: step-by-step installation guide to install CVS on Red hat Linux ?

2003-01-03 Thread Shishir Singhai

Hi Rajender,

 Actually I dont know that how to install it on Linux as I had done it on
FreeBSD OS. Any way u can follow following steps

1. you run 'cvs init' command and you will see the CVSROOT directory which
contains many files.
2. you have to set the environment variable as CVSROOT =
/your/cvsroot/path/here
3. use 'cvs import' to add a new module to the repository

Also how do you want to run it say as a server accessed by other client m/c
or as local repository than you have to do different things. above will
start your local repository.

you do the above steps and if u face prob. u can ever come back to me.

  is in /cvs directory. Thepermissions for this are ug+rwx. It belongs to
  root user and cvs group. Currently the requirements
  changed and I was required to setup ascenario to use the CVSROOT/passwd

  were: a) Created a group 'cvs'. b)
  Assigned 5 users to it. These were already existing users on the CVSServer
  machine. c) Copied the passwords from the System
  passwords file to the CVSROOTdirectory. d) Changed
  permission for this as ugo+r (read only for user, group

Hi,

I need to know if I can get the branch name details when trying to get
history information for checkin operation, over X number of days.

Here is what I tried

cvs history -e -a -D 7 Mar 2002

The above command will indicate branch details only for action type
checkout.

Anything missed out?

Regards,
Sharmila

Hi jaya,

This may sound foolish but you must make a entry in you
$cvsroot/CVSROOT/passwd file to be authenticated as
jaya:[encrypted password here]
there is a perl script to encrypt your passwd string you can download that
from anywhere

Hi
Pushpa

I dont
know that what you aredoing so I am explaining whole process for using
pserverexcept changes for /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/services which
you changed already.

first
of all edit $CVSROOT/CVSROOT/passwd file to put in entries in that
file. The entries in passwd file goes as

username : passwd(encrypted) : system
Username(optional)

the
Script for generating password is as follows

#!/usr/bin/perl

srand (time());
my $randletter = "(int (rand (26)) + (int (rand (1) + .5) % 2 ? 65 : 97))";
my $salt = sprintf ("%c%c", eval $randletter, eval $randletter);
my $plaintext = shift;
my $crypttext = crypt ($plaintext, $salt);

print "${crypttext}\n";
say you saved this file as passgen.pl than you can generate password as passgen.pl "Password" XAsesdsOwill give you some encrypted passwd which you copy paste in front of username say xyz than your passwd file shd look likexyz:XAsesdsOyou can use the command:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/cvsroot/acca_c1b loginand in winCVS what is your settings in Admin-Preferencesregards Shishir Singhai
