my guess is that you have "flat mode" selected under the view menu. In this mode WinCVS finds every file in your tree, sorts them and displays them in one screen. I have about 5000 files in my tree and it just took about five minutes to bring up WinCVS in this mode. With flat mode off the hierarchical display is drawn in a couple of seconds.
