I get the following error on attempting to logon to the IMAP server as a

Hi,

With pam you can have IMAP accounts of the type: username.domain.tld so
that mail sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] is delivered to a cyrus account:
username.domain.tld

This needs the the option unixhierarchysep: yes is set in the
/etc/imapd.conf.

There are howto's showing how to achieve this:
http://www.delouw.ch/linux/Postfix-Cyrus-Web-cyradm-HOWTO/html/index.html
and
http://home.teleport.ch/simix/RPMS/Cyrus-imapd/contrib/Postfix+cyrus+postgreSQL+web-cyradm.pdf

In the new cyrus-2.2.x (now in beta) [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be
allowed. Otherwise for now you can use the Perdition IMAP/POP proxy
server(http://vergenet.net/linux/perdition/) or get a patch (I think),
for the current stable 2.1.x series.

 Simon

Yeah, the username.domain.tld idea should work with the default domain
since this scheme in actual fact just rewrites mail destined to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with respect to
the IMAP server.

My understanding is that in the new 2.2.x series setting the option
virtdomains: no in the imap.conf essentially causes the 2.2.x to
behave like the 2.1.x with regard to virtual domains. But even with
virtdomains: yes [EMAIL PROTECTED] should still work
since [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a valid address. The burden
of the rewrite lies with the MTA before it calls the LMTP agent.

However I' am yet to experiment with all this ;-)

LMTP unix socket timeouts on cyrus-imapd-2.1.14-6

2003-08-07 Thread Andrew Koros
Hello ,

I have been using cyrus-imapd-2.1.12-9 rpm by Simon Matter and postfix
could deliver directly to cyrus over a unix lmtp socket with no problems
at all. I then upgraded to cyrus-imapd-2.1.13-4 rpm by Simon and once
in a while postfix-2.0.13 gives delay=303, status=deferred (connect to
public/lmtp[public/lmtp]: read timeout) but eventually it gets
delivered.

I then tried cyrus-imapd-2.1.14-6 again from Simon Matter this time it
never delivers and the postfix error is always ... status=deferred
(connect to public/lmtp[public/lmtp]: read timeout)

If I downgrade to cyrus-imapd-2.1.12-9 rpm by Simon Matter the problem
is solved. Is there something that has changed?

My System:
 RedHat Linux 9
 cyrus-sasl-2.1.15-2 built from RedHat-Rawhide srpm
(The problem was the same for the original RedHat cyrus-sasl-2.1.10-x
rpms)
postfix-2.0.13-3 built from packages by Simon Mudd
(http://postfix.wl0.org/ftp/SRPMS/)

Some those sctripts are now available in the cyrus-imap contrib

about it on the web. Anyways, Cyrus seems to be more advanced than Courier
 anyways and supports quota's ...

I'd be happy to use Postfix and Cyrus as solution. But I'm needing some kind of
assistance here. Cyrus should get all user information (that is username,
password, quota) from a MySQL database. Currently I'm using Postfix 1.11. I
could switch to a later version of Postfix - preferable available as Debian
package (like I'd prefer installing Cyrus as Debian package also to ease
 maintenance for others).

Maybe somebody can point me to a howto, cause I've been searching the web for
hours and didn't come accross any useful information. Maybe a howto from scratch
or several howto's would be a good idea.

Hi,

For web-cyradm there is no specific advantage of postgresql over mysql.
But I was developing a mail and RADIUS system for our company that was very
complex and needed referential integrity checks and triggers which are only
 in PostgreSQL.

In the process I decided to experiment on web-cyradm with postgresql and
documented it. With my document you can simply use mysql by just
installing pam-mysql and editing the pam.d/imap slightly and it would
work.

If you intend to extend the web-cyradm system and make it more complex
with triggers/checks e.t.c you are better off with postgresql. Otherwise
mysql is nice fast and simple.

While I have no benchmark tests, it's all about choice in the end. :-)

Yes all the quota info is in the database and the web-cyradm can even
run on a seperate machine since the cyrus administration can done over
tcp/ip socket by the web-cyradm.

I refered to RedHat becuase that is what I'am using. It would be hard to

Luc's document is more general and it will work with debian,FreeBSD or

That's OK, you just need to install autoconf (the tool that parses
configure.in and creates a new configure script). It'll be available as an
RPM on the RedHat CDs (if it's already installed, then make sure it's in
 your path).

However, if you're relatively new to Linux then a better option might be
to install Cyrus directly from the RPMs that contributors to this list
have created. I don't run Cyrus on Linux myself, so I'm not sure whether
the RPMs will work on RH8, but a troll through the list archives should
 answer that question.
