We enjoy the autocreate feature; but it won't block us from upgrading
[in Febuary / March 2011 probably] - since we have to go to cyradm to
set attributes on the folders anyway [condstore, expire, ...].

I've been meaning to work on them for a while - but been sidetracked by
working on other things at FastMail/Opera - and now working on turning the
annotation code into RFC complient METADATA. Jeroen is also concerned
about breaking the stability of the 2.4 series by pushing too many
changes into it.

Then again - of the big sites running "2.4" - both CMU and FastMail are
actually running git master rather than 2.4 releases, which isn't ideal
either. I'm not sure what everyone else is running...

We need to knuckle down and make sure it works under murder, then it's
ready to include! I've got a bit caught up in other things this week,
including two more things I need to do to Cyrus.

a) track down a quota bug with deleting mailboxes in delayed_delete mode.
b) make sync_client not block startup if it can't contact its replica
(again - the -o "once" option was a workaround that still makes startup
slow if the destination IP isn't bound yet)

And of course lots of FM/Opera internal stuff.

Our official todo list is everything that is not in CLOSED status in Bugzilla
on http://bugzilla.cyrusimap.org.

I'm working to clean that up. You can help, if you want;

- Examine old bug reports logged against a version prior to 2.3, and determine
whether this report still applies to a more recent release (2.3.x, 2.4.x).
Here's a list (you require editbugs privileges for this list):

http://bugzilla.cyrusimap.org/bugzilla3/buglist.cgi?cmdtype=runnamed&namedcmd=legacy-
review

a) When you know it's resolved you can correct the target milestone (set it to
the most recent release when in doubt), and close the bug with CLOSED FIXED.

b) If you know the problem still exists, update the version number the bug is
logged against to the most recent version number you know the problem still
exists in.

c) When in doubt, make the changes that represent your best guess, but do not
close it, and assign it to me (vanmeeu...@kolabsys.com).

It's somewhere in Bron's git tree and used at FastMail IIRC, so I hoped it
will somehow go into 2.4 :)

Bron, if you are reading this, is there a good reason to not include the
patch?

I run Cyrus on Solaris 10, SPARC and x86, no (real) problems.

I compile everything 64-bit so there are a couple of tweaks to find the
right libraries and I've separately packaged and installed Berkeley DB in
/opt/bdb, and SASL in /opt/CYRsasl2. If you want some packages let me know
and I'll make them available. I haven't tried 2.4.0 yet although I plan to

the changes look pretty significant and I'm wary of any 64-bit alignment

Here's my configure script, should it help.

Of course I'll update our RHEL/CentOS RPMs but it may take a bit more time
than the usual hours or days because of the many changes in the new
release. Some of the stuff which has been done in the RPM automagically -
like converting databases on startup - has now been integrated in the main

While we are at it, I have your 0012-Clean-Shutdown.patch in the RPM, from
what I see in the changelogs this has not been integrated with 2.4, right?
If yes, do you still use the patch in your own version, could you make
this patch for 2.4 available somehow?

The other thing I'm wondering now is how to go on with the autocreate
feature. I'm not sure I'll be able to recreate the patches for 2.4 and I
don't know if the nice people from University of Athens will be going to
do it. Hm, I won't be happy to release a new RPM with this feature
missing.

Simon

If I can talk you into it I'd be happy with a tar ball and instructions on
how/where to
install the files. Let me know if you can get it to compile let me know what
your
configure options were and what the dependencies are and I'll compile it and
put it into
a package.

I use gcc that I got from sunfreeware. Although at some point the build process
calls out
cc by name. :-(

I really don't know much about Solaris 10 packaging. I do have a Solaris
box though... I should give it a go. Do they usually get compiled with
gcc, or with the Sun compiler?

Yes, I am.

Packages will be / are available through http://mirror.kolabsys.com/pub/

Look at the kolab-3.0 product branch repositories, where what is now still
called kolab-cyrus-imapd is actually just cyrus-imapd (this is a legacy thing
I'm sorry).

I've started with Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL / CentOS / Scientific), and later
this week I should be able to turn up with some packages for Debian Lenny,
Squeeze, Fedora 12-rawhide and Ubuntu 9.04+.

The former not withstanding, help is greatly appreciated! Contact me if you're
interested (the packaging all goes through GIT repositories at
http://git.kolabsys.com/).

Kind regards,

Any chance of getting a package for solaris 10? I've been trying to build
2.3.16 for over
a week and still haven't gotten it to compile.

We're planning to reach out to the distributions and convince them
to package it - as well as integrating any patches they're applying
that are still worthwhile. We want everyone to be running the same
codebase as much as possible.

At the moment I'm still travelling - will be back in Australia next
week.

Is there anyone packaging this up for the common linux distros?

Cyrus IMAPd 2.4.0 Released

2010-10-11 Thread Ken Murchison
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.4.0. This
release should be considered production quality but hasn't yet been
widely tested. Major changes in the release are the following:

- All databases are now skiplist by default
- Charset subsystem has been rewritten - Unicode 5.2 and UTF-8 in Sieve
- Core mailbox handling code has largely been rewritten
- Replication code largely rewritten
- Several LEMONADE extensions have been implemented
- Added support for marking QoS on traffic

For full details, please see:
http://www.cyrusimap.org/docs/cyrus-imapd/2.4.0/changes.php

URL for this release:
ftp://ftp.cyrusimap.org/cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.4.0.tar.gz

Special thanks go to Bron Gondwana whose stellar work on redesigning and
refactoring the code has been instrumental in making this release possible.
