[Thanks for all your help, Simon!]

Well, I'm to the point where telnet localhost imap shows:
* OK ServerCharlie Cyrus IMAP4 v2.1.16-Invoca-RPM-2.1.16-6 server ready

I also installed all the RPMs that came with Simon's package.

Now I am having trouble with cyradm. It's telling me file not found. Can
anyone tell me where this file comes from and why it might not be available?

Also, I do [telnet localhost 25] and I get:
220 localhost.localdomain ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.8/8.12.8

Does this mean Sendmail 8.12.8 is fully installed? Please forgive the
novice questions.

Thanks!
David

What does it not find? How do you call cyradm? Did you install the
perl-Cyrus package?
BTW, most people who first try to install this software from source don't
clean up the box before installing the rpms. This can lead to some
problems. Did you do this?

2004-02-02 Thread Simon Matter

Thanks, Simon! I've gotten through step 9 successfully (I think). Every
step seems to be a struggle, but I am learning and documenting as a I go.

Maybe one of your colleagues could help me with sendmail. Sorry to ask
because I'm sure it's been dealt with before in the list, but I can't find
it and I need to deliver a running imap to my client asap. (He's not
 upset
really. Today he told me that experience is the sum of our errors. But
 I
am anxious to move forward.) Thanks for any help speeding the learning
 process.

Now I am trying to configure sendmail properly. I am using Managing IMAP
(Mullet Mullet) as a reference and searching the web and cyrus list. I
worked through a few obstacles today and having been working on step 10 in
the past hour. I set the OSTYPE to (linux)and DOMAIN to (generic) and ran
the m4 command according to the book:

David,

I really don't know the sendmail stuff. What I know is that most
descriptions are too old, I guess that's the same with the book you
mention. I've included a m4 file in the rpm which may bring you further.
Check /usr/share/doc/cyrus-imapd-2.2.3/cyrusv2.mc.

Simon

 m4 ../m4/cf.m4 cyrusproto.mc cyrusproto.cf

 then...

 su -
 cp /etc/mail/sendmail.cf /etc/mail/sendmail.cf.bak
 cp cyrusproto.cf /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

 then...

 /etc/init.d/sendmail stop /etc/init.d/sendmail start

I've started cyrus, but when trying to [cyradm] I get command not found.

What have I missed? Thanks for all the patience and kind assistance.

 and what should it say?

Then I went ahead and tried to start imap with step
11, and I get the error: cyrus-imapd: unrecognized

Hmm, did you really install the rpms or did you just build them? After
rebuilding from src.rpm, You'll find the compiled packages in
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/. You have to install them with 'rpm -ivh
 /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/filename.rpm'. Building alone doesn't install
 them.

9)
If you installed the cyrus-imapd rpms and didn't change anything,
cyrus-imapd will use saslauthd-pam/system-auth for authentication. This
means that on a default RedHat install where users are stored in
/etc/passwd * /etc/shadow, you'll have to set a password for the cyrus
unix user. Try:

passwd cyrus

10)
If you're using postfix, you'll have put someting like this in
/etc/postfix/main.cf to let postfix deliver mail to cyrus-imapd via lmtp:

mailbox_transport = lmtp:unix:/var/lib/imap/socket/lmtp

If you're using sendmail, I can't help you but I know people on this list
know exactly how to configure it for cyrus-imapd.

Re: New rpms of Cyrus IMAPd 2.2.3

2004-01-29 Thread Simon Matter
I'm pleased to announce new source rpms of the new stable release of Cyrus
 IMAPd 2.2.3.

I've successfully rebuilt the source rpm on the following Linux
 distributions:
 RedHat 6.2, 7.2, 7.3 and 9
 Fedora Core 1

Sucessful rebuilds have also been reported by others for:
 RedHat AS 2.1 and 3.0
 Fedora Core 2 beta

The rpms should do all the steps needed for a successful upgrade from a
previous Invoca rpm 2.1 install to the new 2.2 release. It's however
highly recommended to create backups of your data before upgrading.

I found two minor problems with the new packages released yesterday:

1) On upgrade, sieve scripts are 'compiled' automagically. The problem was
that sievec didn't work with some ISO-8859-1 sieve scripts that's why I
included a iconv call to convert ISO-8859-1 - UTF-8. The problem was that
if the script was already UTF-8, it was again treated as ISO-8859-1 and
converted to UTF-8. This bug is fixed now.

2) The new 2.2 rpm uses the mail syslog facility while the older one used
local6. The default RedHat syslog configuration logs all mail.* to
/var/log/maillog. On busy sites the amount of messages may be too much so
changing syslog config to something like 'mail.info /var/log/maillog' may
be needed. The syslog facility is now a rpm build time option and the
README.RPM file does mention the change.

An updated src rpm is now available.

my packages are made for mandrake 8.2, I didn't test them with mandrake
8.1. They should work (not much has changed in terms of libraries) but I
didn't test them.
If you cannot install the binary packages, grab the source package and
rebuild it. If that still doesn't work you'll have to tweak the spec
file to take into account libraries' version installed with mandrake 8.1
Take a look at
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/howtos/mdk-rpm/
for details on how to build rpms for mandrake.

I'm trying to install this and it's saying that to files are required:

 libcrypto.so.2
 libssl.so.2

but openssl is only up to verion 0.96d so is this just a linked name to
 libssl.so.0 ?

Did you install on RedHat 7.2? If yes, make sure you have current
updates installed, if no, I don't know.

This is what I have installed:

[root@dhcp-141-104 SRPMS]# rpm -qa | grep cyrus
cyrus-imapd-devel-2.1.4-1
cyrus-sasl-md5-2.1.2-1
cyrus-imapd-2.1.4-1
cyrus-imapd-utils-2.1.4-1
cyrus-sasl-devel-2.1.2-1
cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.2-1
cyrus-sasl-2.1.2-1
[root@dhcp-141-104 SRPMS]# rpm -qa | grep openssl
openssl-devel-0.9.6b-8
openssl-0.9.6b-8

I have upgraded my Cyrus RPMs to cyrus-imapd-2.1.4 / cyrus-sasl-2.1.2.
The binary packages have been compiled on RedHat 7.2. For those
  interested, here are the links:

No I use Linux Mandrake 8.1

This is what I have installed:

 [root@dhcp-141-104 SRPMS]# rpm -qa | grep cyrus
 cyrus-imapd-devel-2.1.4-1
 cyrus-sasl-md5-2.1.2-1
 cyrus-imapd-2.1.4-1
 cyrus-imapd-utils-2.1.4-1
 cyrus-sasl-devel-2.1.2-1
 cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.2-1
 cyrus-sasl-2.1.2-1
 [root@dhcp-141-104 SRPMS]# rpm -qa | grep openssl
 openssl-devel-0.9.6b-8
 openssl-0.9.6b-8

would you please run:

# rpm -qa --filesbypkg | grep libssl.so.2
# rpm -qa --filesbypkg | grep libcrypto.so.2

and tell me what is shows?

that would tell me what package(s) contain those files.

Thanks,

Jeff
