What does it not find? How do you call cyradm? Did you install the
perl-Cyrus package?
BTW, most people who first try to install this software from source don't
clean up the box before installing the rpms. This can lead to some
problems. Did you do this?

Looks like it's installed.

[Thanks for all your help, Simon!]

Well, I'm to the point where telnet localhost imap shows:
* OK ServerCharlie Cyrus IMAP4 v2.1.16-Invoca-RPM-2.1.16-6 server ready

I also installed all the RPMs that came with Simon's package.

Now I am having trouble with cyradm. It's telling me file not found. Can
anyone tell me where this file comes from and why it might not be available?

Also, I do [telnet localhost 25] and I get:
220 localhost.localdomain ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.8/8.12.8

Does this mean Sendmail 8.12.8 is fully installed? Please forgive the
novice questions.

Thanks!
David

David,

I really don't know the sendmail stuff. What I know is that most
descriptions are too old, I guess that's the same with the book you
mention. I've included a m4 file in the rpm which may bring you further.
Check /usr/share/doc/cyrus-imapd-2.2.3/cyrusv2.mc.

The cyrus-sasl rpms from RedHat don't include /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd. It
will then just use /etc/shadow for auth. I usually put 'MECH=pam' into the
file so saslauthd will use PAM.

Hmm, did you really install the rpms or did you just build them? After
rebuilding from src.rpm, You'll find the compiled packages in
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/. You have to install them with 'rpm -ivh
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/.rpm'. Building alone doesn't install
them.

Re: New rpms of Cyrus IMAPd 2.2.3

2004-01-30 Thread David Brown

Ok, this makes sense, thanks Mark. I've worked
through this when trying to install from source
(unsuccessful as well till now).

But I still can't get through the howto list.
Everything seemed ok until step 7. I started
saslauthd, but I don't have any file at
/etc/sysconfig/saslauthd and have had no occasion to
write one. Does "as needed" mean I should create one,
and what should it say?

Then I went ahead and tried to start imap with step
11, and I get the error: "cyrus-imapd: unrecognized
service".

I don't mean to skip around and I want to be thorough,
but it's not working for me. I would appreciate any
more clarification.

Thanks!

9)
If you installed the cyrus-imapd rpms and didn't change anything,
cyrus-imapd will use saslauthd->pam/system-auth for authentication. This
means that on a default RedHat install where users are stored in
/etc/passwd * /etc/shadow, you'll have to set a password for the cyrus
unix user. Try:

passwd cyrus

10)
If you're using postfix, you'll have put someting like this in
/etc/postfix/main.cf to let postfix deliver mail to cyrus-imapd via lmtp:

mailbox_transport = lmtp:unix:/var/lib/imap/socket/lmtp

If you're using sendmail, I can't help you but I know people on this list
know exactly how to configure it for cyrus-imapd.

2004-01-30 Thread David Brown

We used to say that the only dumb question is the one
that's not asked. But that doesn't keep me from
feeling that way sometimes.

Could someone please help me with steps 9 and 10 of
Simon's install howto:
http://www.invoca.ch/pub/packages/cyrus-imapd/2.1/readme-from-rpm.txt

I think we're talking about setting the cyrus password
in SASL, but I'm not sure how, and #10 is also new to
me. I've searched docs and the web and cyrus and sasl
lists and don't have clear answers in a timely
fashion.

Please bear with me in my learning process, and thanks
for helping me speed it up a bit. (Time is money!)

Simon,

Many thanks for the RPM!!! May I suggest putting the
RPM install command on your quick and dirty install
howto page ('rpmbuild --rebuild
cyrus-imapd-2.x.x-x.src.rpm'). I lost some time
(entirely my fault as a newbie) doing a standard rpm
install command while looking at your howto page,
missing the syntax on the homepage. Might help
another struggling newbie, I dunno.

Thanks again!!!

I found two minor problems with the new packages released yesterday:

1) On upgrade, sieve scripts are 'compiled' automagically. The problem was
that sievec didn't work with some ISO-8859-1 sieve scripts that's why I
included a iconv call to convert ISO-8859-1 -> UTF-8. The problem was that
if the script was already UTF-8, it was again treated as ISO-8859-1 and
converted to UTF-8. This bug is fixed now.

2) The new 2.2 rpm uses the mail syslog facility while the older one used
local6. The default RedHat syslog configuration logs all mail.* to
/var/log/maillog. On busy sites the amount of messages may be too much so
changing syslog config to something like 'mail.info /var/log/maillog' may
be needed. The syslog facility is now a rpm build time option and the
README.RPM file does mention the change.

An updated src rpm is now available.

Simon,

Your 2.2.3 src.rpm have a dependency on cyrus-sasl-devel >= 2.1.15-1. Do you
have a src.rpm for that. I am trying to build on Redhat 9.

I'm pleased to announce new source rpms of the new stable release of Cyrus
IMAPd 2.2.3.

I've successfully rebuilt the source rpm on the following Linux
distributions:
RedHat 6.2, 7.2, 7.3 and 9
Fedora Core 1

Sucessful rebuilds have also been reported by others for: RedHat AS 2.1 and
3.0 Fedora Core 2 beta

The rpms should do all the steps needed for a successful upgrade from a
previous Invoca rpm 2.1 install to the new 2.2 release. It's however highly
recommended to create backups of your data before upgrading.

Download the source rpms at: http://www.invoca.ch/pub/packages/cyrus-imapd/

Have fun!
