I try to input his feed into gwene, I get this result:

A feed with this internal ID (http://www.thestranger.com) is already
 subscribed as gwene.com.thestranger.[...]

This is because someone has already entered the rss for one of the other
 authors at the same paper.

Any way for me to get the feed for my author into gwene?

You can try asking about this on gmane.discuss. I recently had a similar
issue (http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.discuss/16223) and the reply was
that I had to contact the feed authors to make sure they used
a different link tag in their feeds.

You can subscribe to the group gwene.org.slashdot which is on the
server news.gwene.org. Gwene is an RSS (and Atom, etc) to Usenet News
 (i. e., NNTP) gateway. Works quite well.

Gwene doesn't allow you to post comments, though.

(Not surprising for a general tool when you think about it, but I think
the original poster was looking for that functionality.)

archiving threads one contributes to

2014-07-22 Thread Alan Schmitt
Hello,

Is there a way to tell gnus to keep local copies of newsgroup threads to
which I've contributed? Ideally I would like to have them to be archived
in some local folder alongside my mail.

Thanks,

Alan

Interesting---sounds like the exact same issue. I've ended up for now
just subscribing to the RSS feed directly with G-R in Gnus. I'd resisted
this at first because Gnus is, for me, painfully slow with RSS feeds at
times. However, I've gotten over it, and am using the wait time
productively to brew coffee ... :)

Why not just install Leafnode?

Thank you for the suggestion. Leafnode seems to be a
little heavyweight. It seems that what I want is
 based on 'gnus-summary-copy-article' and tweaking
 gnus-move-split-methods' to have nice suggestions
where to put the article. It won't be automatic, but
 I guess it's a start.

What do you mean by local copies? If you mean files
with messages on you disk, don't you have that already?

For example, I have your message (the one I quote) as

~/News/agent/nntp/Aioe.org/gnu/emacs/gnus/5737

Not that I use those files very often directly as I
think most things are preferrable to do through Gnus
anyway.

Put it this way: what problem/situation do you have?
