[info-tech] BonJour

2010-05-25 Thread Richardson,Tony
FYI,

I have had a number of issues with the free Apple program called
Bonjour. Bonjour is optionally included with iTunes and other Apple
products. In some configurations of Windows 7 it has been causing
network interruption by adding 0.0.0.0 as the default gateway.
Additionally it will cause 2012 srv errors on your Windows servers. It
cannot cause stoppage of the servers but if you are scratching your head
trying to figure out where these are coming from you now have the
source. This is most irritating because you will spend time updating
drivers, etc. and make no headway with it.

Some copiers and printers now have this included with them. I recommend
you shut this off! Setup the Windows firewall on your servers and block
UDP port 5353 and do not let the mDNSResponder service run on Windows 7
machines.

Avermedia doc cams come with bonjour in their software too. However, you can
get an install msi from their website that excludes this software.

Scott,

I wasn't sure if you got involved with the Intel Servers your company is using
and if not, I'd truly appreciate if you could forward this on to the proper
folks.

I listed a few examples of the Newest HP Proliant Factory Sealed Servers,
Blades and Parts that my company has available below for less than CDW. - This
includes HP G6 DL380s,DL360s,BL460c's, and BL685c's. All of the Servers come

Just give me a call at 678-965-2158 or email reply if this is equipment I could
help you with or if there is someone else that I should be talking to.

[info-tech] Recycling Program.

2010-05-25 Thread Scott Fosseen [Prairie Lakes AEA]
I have had 13 districts respond with recycling requests. I am looking to
see if there are any other districts that have equipment they want recycled.

The cost will be $2.50 per CRT monitor (Possible additional charge for
monitors larger than 17) plus transportation costs. All other equipment is
recycled at no charge. Transportation costs will be divided between all
districts that share a truck load. I have been told the transportation
should be less than $200, and will be divided by the percentage of equipment
you send for recycling.

If you want to participate please respond with how much equipment you have
to recycle. I need a count on the number of monitors, and also quantity of
each type of equipment. Also include what timeframe will work for pickup of
equipment.

Please try to have this information to me by Friday so I can move forward.

Thanks.

[info-tech] Fw: computers for districts

2010-05-25 Thread Scott Fosseen [Prairie Lakes AEA]
Are there any districts who would like up to 5 additional 5 yr old Windows
Computers? If so please read the message below, then send me a request if you
are interested and I will forward your info.

Thanks.

---

Hello, all. I am writing with an interesting request. A member of Senator
Harkin's staff contacted me looking for information on districts to which the
Senator may distribute computers as part of a Senate program. We tried
distributing them based on SES, which we thought would be a good approximation
of need, but many of the districts that were approached turned the offer down.
Our next effort is to try to locate districts that our AEAs know of that need
the computers. The Senator can offer up to five computers per district, and he
has 20 to distribute. The computers are five years old, and they are PCs.

I would really appreciate your help in distributing this request to the other
directors in your AEA and/or to your regional coordinators who might have
knowledge of districts in need of additional computers. Please provide my
contact information, along with a deadline of June 1 for getting back to me
with recommendations.

Thank you so much for your help.
