All things considered, we've been happier with the Mimio systems. They're
cheaper, offer more flexibility, and are just as good.

Does anybody have Promethean boards in their classrooms? If so, are they the
short-throw type and what do you think of them? We are looking at buying some
short-throw Promethean boards at $1700 from Haddock and was wondering if people
were generally happy with them. Thanks

I just kicked the Promethean sales person out of here this morning. We
own 1 of them and will not own any more. Nothing but trouble with it.

What specifically were some of the problems you were having? The teachers
that saw the two presentations from SMART and Promethean are leaning towards
Promethean. If I had some good examples of why Promethean has failed other
places it would be easier to persuade them towards SMART boards.

RE: [info-tech] Promethean Boards

2010-06-21 Thread Richardson,Tony
First off I purchased one of the short throw adjustables which took a
full day to get all the hardware mounted to the wall properly.
Instructions were not very clear. After that it looked hideous with all
that stuff on the wall (several comments were made). You require a pen
to control it which didn't set well with teachers they prefer using the
human finger for control. All that said then I started having alignment
issues. After 3 software patches and upgrades I still had intermittent
issues with it and still do. Tried a new controller with no success. Had
issues with the software on the PC crashing the PC tried more than one
PC. The software was primitive and was not as capable as the Smart
software (may be better now). When it did decide to work no matter what
adjustment I made in the software it was never very responsive to the
pen.

It now lives out its days as a projector screen in our admin board room.
I assured the super he would not have it in his new boardroom.
