[info-tech] Bios Password
Ok, I have a laptop that I want to wipe and restore. Currently runs WIndows XP Pro, normally this would not be an issue BUT the student set a bios password. I need to know how to get around this. Since I did not set up the laptops please do not give me a hard time for allowing students access to this. :) Karl Hehr District Technology Coordinator South Hamilton CSD Jewell, IA --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus on the server aea8.k12.ia.us] - Archived messages from this list can be found at: http://www.mail-archive.com/info-tech@aea8.k12.ia.us/ -
RE: [info-tech] Bios Password
Karl, You usually have to use jumpers to reset the bios, but on laptops it is more of a problem. It depends greatly on the model and manufacturer. I know on HPs it is kind of a pain in the butt. Re: [info-tech] Bios Password
I agree. The only way to do this would be to take it all apart (easy to take apart but a pain to put back together again) and remove the cmos battery for a short period. There are some cmos crack programs on the web but I have never used them. If you can prove ownership, the manufacturer will do this for you for a service charge or they may have a back-door password.
