[info-tech] BonJour

2010-05-25 Thread Richardson,Tony
FYI,

I have had a number of issues with the free Apple program called
Bonjour. Bonjour is optionally included with iTunes and other Apple
products. In some configurations of Windows 7 it has been causing
network interruption by adding 0.0.0.0 as the default gateway.
Additionally it will cause 2012 srv errors on your Windows servers. It
cannot cause stoppage of the servers but if you are scratching your head
trying to figure out where these are coming from you now have the
source. This is most irritating because you will spend time updating
drivers, etc. and make no headway with it.

Some copiers and printers now have this included with them. I recommend
you shut this off! Setup the Windows firewall on your servers and block
UDP port 5353 and do not let the mDNSResponder service run on Windows 7
machines.

Avermedia doc cams come with bonjour in their software too. However, you can
get an install msi from their website that excludes this software.
