2020-04-08 Thread David Kirwan
Hi Vit,

I'm going to start reading the howto get involved in the packaging process
for Fedora over the weekend and start to get my access to the various
systems, if I run into any issues I'll reach out to folks on IRC!

Looking forward to helping out (in some minor fashion! :D)
cheers,
David

2020-04-07 Thread David Kirwan
Hello all,

My name is David Kirwan, I'm originally from Kilkenny, Ireland, now living
in Waterford, Ireland. I've recently transferred to the CPE team at Red
Hat, where I'll likely be working on CentOS and Fedora infrastructure in a
devops capacity. I also hope to get involved in some of the packaging work
for the Ruby/ML SIGs, although that might be in my spare time!

To share a little background about me, I spent a few years as a software
researcher, working on projects in the energy sector, security and software
defined networking. In my previous role at Red Hat, I worked as a
devops/releng engineer on an operations team responsible for maintaining a
hosted SaaS product. Most recently, I've been working as a regular software
engineer on a team developing and improving Red Hat's middleware products
to work on Openshift 3/4 using Kubernetes "Operators" (Custom resource
controllers).

When I'm not working, I try to spend as much time as possible getting
involved in the local Makerspace (South East Makerspace), working on
personal art, astronomy, amateur radio, diy, electronics and woodworking
projects. I'm delighted to be here, and I'm looking forward to working with

Hi,

For the sysadmin/infra side, you've found the right place, but we don't
deal with kernel devel.

Feel free to hang out in #fedora-admin and #fedora-noc on Freenode.
There's also #fedora-apps for app development efforts, if that side of
things interests you at all. Most of our work is done in Python. See
https://github.com/fedora-infra/.

We also have meetings in #fedora-meeting on Thursdays at 19:00 UTC. Feel
free to introduce yourself there and then we can add you to the
fi-apprentice FAS group which will let you look around at various pieces
of the infrastructure and see how things work.

There's also https://fedoraproject.org/easyfix/ which lists some bugs
that might be good starting points for new contributors.

Hello World! (intro)

2014-01-12 Thread Elizabeta S⌀resen
Hello infra! My name is Elizabeta and I'd like to contribute!
I'm now a student at RMIT in Melbourne, however for the past 5 years
I've been a sysadmin working in managed hosting and vfx. I'm a python
developer, config management (puppet, ansible) and fairly confident
dba. I'd like to learn more about fedora (Primarily supported debian)
and eventually get into kernel dev.
I look forward to helping out in anyway I can, I can provide about 12
hours a week until March then I'd drop down to 6 as uni starts.

Thanks,

Elizabeta

Welcome!

If you haven't already, please take a look at:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/GettingStarted

it has a lot of great information in it.

Please do introduce yourself on irc.freenode.net in #fedora-admin and/or at our
next Fedora Infrastructure meeting (thursday's at 19:00UTC).

Let us know if you are more interested in sysadmin type tasks (and we can see
about adding you to our apprentice program:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure_Apprentice ) or application
maintaining/developing.

If you aren't sure if infrastructure is the right place you want to contribute,
do see:
http://join.fedoraproject.org/ for a more detailed list of all the other teams
in Fedora and how to communicate with them.

Welcome again. Look forward to talking with you.

Hello world

2013-01-05 Thread alexh

Greetings team!

I'm a newbie here. I was present at the last IRC infra meeting and
realised I had missed out on the introduction email, so here it is.

I work as a solaris technical support engineer and run a couple of
ubuntu boxes at home for filesharing stuff, web development and all
sorts of experiments.

I am experienced in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

I've got web development experience with php/mysql/css/js/html so I
could lend a hand also to websites issues as well, but it's not my
priority. I would like to focus on the sysadmin side of the project.

I am not experienced in dealing with performance tuning of systems and
applications or implementing large scale solutions and that is something
I would like to improve on in the future. Working in such large
environments and being able to propose/implement changes is totally new.

Also, my knowledge of Python is close to null, but I've got enough
experience in php/java to, at least, understand what's going on.

So, to summarize, my objectives are:
- learning python
- improving knowledge of fedora/red hat
- develop, implement, maintain services and applications on a large
scale setup

- install/setup servers

What I can offer:
- technical knowledge for services such as nfs, ssh, http...
- troubleshooting experience
- web development experience (backend and frontend)

But first things first: I need to get familiar with your environment.

I don't expect to work more than a few hours a week (5-6), and I cannot
be present at all the meetings.

I can see that there are a few tickets that can interest me, so I'll get
on them soon enough.

Thank you for reading, the email was probably a tad too long :)

Hello World and Introduction

2013-01-03 Thread Joe Needleman
Hello Fedora Infrastructure,
I would like to introduce my self officially to the list and like to
say I am interested in
helping out where I can within Fedora Infrastructure.

I have been using linux for many years now, and have used a variety
of linux distros
however I have recently moved back to Fedora and heard about this
great opportunity.
Most of my experience in linux has been on the desktop, however I have
had some
experience managing servers for some small local shops that made use
of linux in their
environments. Though primarily my linux server experience has come
from servers I mange.
The ability to work on larger networks especially related to an open
source project
greatly interests me.

I have some experience working on linux servers including Debian and
CentOS based
which provided services such as web and directory services. I hope to
be able to bring
my experience and my willingness to learn the tools and procedures to
this opportunity.
In addition, I would like to expand and hone my expertise and
certainly learn how to
better assess and resolve issue that may occur.

My IRC Handle is Adran for those who want to contact me.

I have looked though
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/report/1 and
found a few tickets that I am very interested in helping out with.
Ideally I would love
to work on the operations or web groups within Infrastructure.

I look forward to hearing more from you in the future!

With Regards,
Joe.

"Hello World"

2011-12-25 Thread Amit Digit
Greetings Everyone,

I would like to volunteer and be part of fedora project. I have been using
linux for sometime now and would like to be a part of the community not
just as passive user but also as an active contributor. I worked as
associate system engineer/administrator and recently completed my redhat
certification ie RHCE on version 6.0 hence I hope that I will be able to
contribute in infrastructure team. However I am open to any way I can
contribute. I can at the moment spend about 10 hours or about 2 hours a day
on volunteer work for fedora project. Another reason why I want to work as
volunteer is that it will help me understand the how such projects are
carried out, I would be able to learn more about over all linux systems. I
have worked at L1 level of system administration so I have some exposure in
remote infrastructure manangement. I have completed the following primary
steps incase of any discrepancies would hope to be guided accordingly.

# I have completed registration on Fedora portal and registered my account.
My Login id is : *technocratamit*
# I have filled and signed the FPCA forum
# I have also registered my nickname on Freenode IRC Network. My IRC Handle
is : *lonewolf8*
# I have subscribed to the infrastructure mailing list.

Please feel free to ask incase you need any more details. Looking forward
to contribute and working along side fellow linux lovers. One more thing

 Merry Christmas &
Happy New Year 2012

Newcomer - Hello world!

2010-05-04 Thread Rick Elrod
Hello everyone, my name is Ricky Elrod, and I am looking to participate in an
open source project that allows me to use my knowledge of networking and
programming, and is a good community to work with. After doing some reading,
the fedora infrastructure team looks like the place for me. I am a senior in
high school, and already registered at a local university (The University of
Akron) to major in Computer Science in Fall of this year (immediately after
high school).

In high school, I participated in a Cisco class which gave me knowledge of
networking concepts, such as dealing with Cisco-specific technologies, along
with general networking, such as subnetting. In the programming world, I know
quite a few scripting languages, such as PHP, Python, and Perl, and I am
currently learning my first compiled language, Java. In the future I plan on
learning C and C++, as time permits. I am active on IRC under the nick
CodeBlock, on freenode and a few other networks, such as slashnet, and a small
network I help administrate, Ninthbit.

mmcgrath is willing to sponsor me, after I spoke to him on IRC. He listed a few
FIGs in need of help, and I would like to join sysadmin-hosted, and help out
with fedorahosted.

Any other questions, just ask! I look forward to working with everyone.
