January status update for Fedora Infrastructure Apprentices

2014-01-06 Thread Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.

You are getting this email because you are in the 'fi-apprentice' group
in the fedora account system (or are reading this on the
infrastructure list).

When you reply, please include your fedora account system login.

Additionally, this month, I am CC'ing the infrastructure list. If you
would like to send your feedback there as well everyone can see and
comment on it.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure_Apprentice

At the first of every month(or so), I am going to be sending out an
email like this one. I would like feedback on how things are going for
you.

I'd like to ask for everyone to send me a quick reply with the
following data or anything related you can think of that might help us
make the apprentice program more useful.

0. Whats your fedora account system login?

1. Have you logged in and used your fi-apprentice membership to look at
our machines/setup in the last month? Do you plan to?

2. Has it helped you decide any area you wish to focus on or contribute
to more?

3. Have you looked at or been able to work on any of the fi-apprentice
'easyfix' tickets?
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/report/14

4. Do you still wish to be a member of the group? If not (for whatever
reason) could you provide any hints to help others down the road?

5. Is there any help or communication or ideas you have that would help
you do any of the above?

6. What do you find to be the hardest part of getting involved?
Finding things to work on? Getting attention from others to help you?
Finding tickets in your interest area?

7. Have you been able to make any weekly irc meetings? Do you find them
helpful or interesting?

8. What are you most looking forward to in the world of computing for
2014?

Any other general feedback is also quite welcome, including
improvements to this email, the wiki page, etc.

Any folks I do not hear from in the next week will be removed from the
group. (Note that it's easy to be readded when you have time or
whatever and it's nothing at all personal, we just want to keep the
group up to date with active folks).

Thanks, and looking forward to your feedback!

January status update for Fedora Infrastructure Apprentices

2018-01-15 Thread Kevin Fenzi
You are getting this email because you are in the 'fi-apprentice' group
in the fedora account system (or are reading this on the infrastructure
list).

I am doing something different this time with this email:

If you would like to stay in the apprentice group, please login at least
once to batcave01.phx2.fedoraproject.org. I'll check at the end of the
month and remove folks who haven't logged in at all in January.

Note that you can always be re-added down the road when you have more time.

If you need assistance logging into batcave01, please do look at:
https://docs.pagure.org/infra-docs/sysadmin-guide/sops/sshaccess.html
and ask on irc or email list if you have any problems.

Thanks!

Including the infrastructure list seems to be a regular item and not
something special to this month.

No, but I already have enough Fedora projects to work on.

yes.

It was not completely clear to which systems I should have access and
what can be found where.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure_Apprentice mentions a lot
of systems (backups*, db*, fas*, sign*, rel*, ns* and compose*) no
access is granted to, but not so much information about what to find
where.

I guess for infrastructure it is being able to easily test things I
would like to change.

I usually read the minutes and attended one meeting. Meetings are
helpful to get things discussed faster.

1. Have you logged in and used your fi-apprentice membership to look at
our machines/setup in the last month? Do you plan to?

No, but I'll try tonight.

2. Has it helped you decide any area you wish to focus on or contribute
to more?

Despite not having logged in, my desire to contribute remains high.
There seems to be a lot more programming involved than I was expecting
though, so I've spent the last month trying to build up my Python chops.

3. Have you looked at or been able to work on any of the fi-apprentice
'easyfix' tickets?
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/report/14

I have, but most seem to be beyond my ability at present or are already
being worked on.

4. Do you still wish to be a member of the group? If not (for whatever
reason) could you provide any hints to help others down the road?

Yes.

5. Is there any help or communication or ideas you have that would help
you do any of the above?

No, this group has made it very easy to get involved. I think I just
need to pick a ticket and make the plunge.

6. What do you find to be the hardest part of getting involved?
Finding things to work on? Getting attention from others to help you?
Finding tickets in your interest area?

I'm not an IT professional, so I think my expectations of a group like
this were a bit skewed. I just got my RHCSA last summer so I thought
there would be more responsibilities such as those covered in the exam,
e.g., managing users, groups, permissions, packages, processes, etc...
As I mentioned previously though, I'm hoping to contribute more as I
learn Python better.

7. Have you been able to make any weekly irc meetings? Do you find them
helpful or interesting?

I've only had the opportunity to attend one before the Holidays. I found
it interesting and plan to continue attending.

8. Whats your favorite work of art?

Hmm, not an artsy guy; I don't have one. Which is a shame considering my
daughter just finished her first semester at art college...

Thanks, and looking forward to your feedback!

kevin

odin2016

1. Have you logged in and used your fi-apprentice membership to look at
our machines/setup in the last month? Do you plan to?
Yes, but not as much as I would have liked. December was a busier than
anticipated month.

2. Has it helped you decide any area you wish to focus on or contribute
to more?

Of course.

3. Have you looked at or been able to work on any of the fi-apprentice
'easyfix' tickets?
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/report/14

I've looked, but most, if not all were claimed the last time I looked.

4. Do you still wish to be a member of the group? If not (for whatever
reason) could you provide any hints to help others down the road?

Yes.

5. Is there any help or communication or ideas you have that would help
you do any of the above?

Not at the moment.

6. What do you find to be the hardest part of getting involved?
Finding things to work on? Getting attention from others to help you?
Finding tickets in your interest area?
I don't find it particularly hard to get involved, sometimes you have to
do a little bit of looking, or go outside the easyfix items, but I don't
find it hard.

7. Have you been able to make any weekly irc meetings? Do you find them
helpful or interesting?

Yes. I always find them helpful and interesting.

8. Have you logged into our Gobby instance and read/seen/added to our
meeting agenda? https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Gobby
I've logged into Gobby and done things with it. I've not had a reason
to make any edits recently though.

9. What are you most looking forward to in 2016?

Being more involved, learning and growing.

Any other general feedback is also quite welcome, including
improvements to this email, the wiki page, etc.

N/A.

Any folks I do not hear from in the next week will be removed from the

I have recently changed my ssh key.So, I updated my new public key in the

Thanks,

Do make sure you follow the sop:

https://docs.pagure.org/infra-docs/sysadmin-guide/sops/sshaccess.html

If you still have issues, please give us 'ssh -vv' output, or stop by
#fedora-admin for more interactive debugging.

Hi Kevin,

While I am able to login to the bastion host after my new public key
populated, I still can't login batcave01:

[snyshadham@bastion01 .ssh][PROD]$ ssh batcave01.phx2.fedoraproject.org

Permission denied (publickey).

Could you please help?

Sure, happy to try.

First you should not try and ssh from bastion01 to batcave01, but from
your home machine. The ssh config will gateway it for you via bastion01.

Try that and see if it works.

I am doing something different this time with this email:

If you would like to stay in the apprentice group, please login at least
once to batcave01.phx2.fedoraproject.org. I'll check at the end of the
month and remove folks who haven't logged in at all in January.

Note that you can always be re-added down the road when you have more
 time.

If you need assistance logging into batcave01, please do look at:

and ask on irc or email list if you have any problems.

 Thanks!
