Re: ask.fp.o low ranking in Google

2013-10-18 Thread Vít Ondruch
Ok, that was completely artifical query, but for such generec question,
I would expect ask.fp.o to be on the first page and it is not. It is not
in first 10 pages. So user not only get any answer, but does not know
that there is place where he could ask at least.

But trying something less generic, such as
https://www.google.com/?#q=dualboot+fedora+win provides better results,
although I would expect ask.fp.o to be higher.

well,

Just because ask.fpo is "fedora" hosted , that doesn't mean its the
best source of content.

For this specific query, infact there are no questions on ask.fpo

https://ask.fedoraproject.org/questions/scope:all/sort:activity-desc/query:fedora%2019%20install%20fails/page:1/

SEO project aside, content is king.

As to it being useless, AFAIK, its just a fedora hosted app, not an
official documentation or answering place. fedora forums have been
around for years now, ask.fpo for months.

I would rather have a user directed to a valid answer than ask.fpo
with no results.

my 2 cents.

Hi,

I am wondering why anytime I am searching some issue with Fedora,
ask.fedoraproject.org  is never
shown in Google's results. How is that? That should be one of ours
primary sources of answers for common questions.

For example, when I google for "fedora 19 installation fails", on
first page I get referecnes to

* fedora wiki
* fedoraforum.org
* wikihow
* bugzilla
* google groups
* and some other unknown pages

ask.fp.o does not appear on first 10 pages of Google. I am afraid
it is useless service unless it appears in Google.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

could be you have led a sheltered life.

or, maybe secluded life. :=D

i stopped using google for 2 reasons;

   it failed too often.

   i do not like being tracked.

from day 1 of using "ixquick" in it's "advanced-search" mode,
i have had nothing but pure joy using it. "it just works".

also note the links in upper left and right, click the "private"
link just below "ixquick".

something else i have found out about "ixquick", on 2 rare
happens of not finding what i first entered in the 'exact phrase'
bar, two days later when out of curiousness, i repeated search,
it found what it had not before with out expansion. which shows
me that "ixquick" has some sort of "fail/learn" routine built in.

give it a try.

I agree, and if you guys are doing something to fix that, please do keep me
in the loop. I'd like to make my way into infra, and this sounds like an
interesting start! :)
