Hi,

Yes, looks like the download page update got the wrong link.
Both the link and the adblock issue have been marked as critical and
communicated to the web team.
They are working on both.

Best,

Another issue is that adblockers cause the download buttons to
disappear: https://forum.qt.io/topic/86525/cannot-find-the-download-link

I've pinged our Community Manager about the website issues (which can
also be reported at https://bugreports.qt.io/ under "Qt Project
Website")

As for the issues related to the design of the Online Installer for
Linux and macOS, I suggest creating reports under "Qt Installer
Framework"

We (Linux users) are not as lucky as you think, the two installers
come with maintenance tools as well, but don't play together, you
would have to install them side by side (not tested). One allows you
to develop with Qt/32bits <= 5.5, while the other Qt/64bits >= 5.0
The 32 bits comes with an old version of QtCreator, basically it's
just a frozen version of the last official Linux-32 binaries.
It might be useful for some thought.

Anyway, there's definitely a bug on qt.io. Is anyone from the Qt
Company aware of this?

Lucky raskals, we on Mac get a "Maintenance Tool" for about all Qt5 versions
but
that runs only on recent OS versions... and that will insist on updating itself
to a version that maybe won't run on the current host.

This one allows to install Qt/32bits on a 32bits PC, up to Qt-5.5.

Problem is that the 32-bit installer is no good for someone on a 64-bit
Linux (= most people nowadays), i.e. a newcomer to Qt will click on the
Download button for 64-bit, chmod +x the installer and then double-click
on it. And nothing will happen, no error dialog box or warnings.

Perhaps he will visit the Qt forums, where someone will advise him to
launch the installer from a Terminal window to see the actual error
message. And the message will most likely be "*not an executable file*"
since the i386 architecture usually isn't installed.

Hopefully he will spot the fine print on the bottom of
https://www.qt.io/download-qt-installer for the link to the offline
packages, where there's no 32-bit Linux installer, only 64-bit flavored.
And that file works.

But this road to getting Qt installed could be simpler, I think it's a
bug in the javascript.

Might be worth adding that the link points to
/archive/online_installers/2.0 (instead of

[Interest] Tricky to download Qt online installer for 64-bit Linux

2018-01-05 Thread Henry Skoglund
Hi, today I installed Ubuntu 17.10 and it really looks nice, can't wait
to deploy the more "serious", I mean LTS, 18.04 release.

Of course I want Qt to go with that so I went to qt.io and landed on
https://www.qt.io/download-qt-installer. Looks nice and new, the
download buttons animate when you hover on them. However, while on
Windows and MacOs you only get one Download button, on Linux you'll get
two, one for 64-bit and one for 32-bit.

2 buttons are fine, the problem is that whichever button I click on, I
always get qt-unified-linux-x86-2.0.5-2-online.run downloaded, not the
qt-unified-linux-x64-3.0.2-online.run :-(

Using the classic trick of disabling javascript to speed up the loading
of the pages of qt.io works also here, if you reload
https://www.qt.io/download-qt-installer without javascript then you'll
get to choose yourself which of the 4 online installers you want to
download (just like last year).

I think this is javascript bug on qt.io which does not benefit new users
trying to download Qt on Linux. Is there somewhere to send a bug report?
