Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily

a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their
original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

[Internetradio] Podding Along - Issue 512

2024-04-10 Thread John A . Figliozzi
Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually
any convenient occasion. I do it while taking my daily (more or less) 3 mile
walk, while I’m “plodding along”.

While there are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of great podcasts from
other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted through the
worthy objectives of the medium.

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these
suggestions — in roughly 90 minute bites -- helpful in enhancing your own
enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“Naomi Alderman: Power and Technology”
HARDtalk - BBC World Service
Stephen Sackur interviews the writer and computer game creator Naomi Alderman.
Her most recent novel - The Future - is a techno thriller set at the end of
days. Is the apocalypse she imagines all too possible? (23”)

“Bruce Shapiro on US politics and Anna Funder on Eileen Blair”
LATE NIGHT LIVE - ABC RN (Radio National)
Bruce Shapiro digs into the history of the 1871 Comstock Act being used to
argue against the sale of abortion drugs online. Anna Funder reveals the many
ways that George Orwell's wife Eileen contributed to his work during their life
together. (54”)

“Montreal's Confederate Past Revealed”
IDEAS - CBC Radio One
While Canada was a refuge for thousands of escaped slaves during the U.S. Civil
War, it was also a haven for Confederate spies, agents, and raiders, including
Abraham Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth. Journalist Julian Sher reveals a
forgotten part of Canada's history in his book, 'The North Star'. (54”)

“Fear, Threats and Intimidation”
THE MEDIA SHOW - BBC Radio 4
British counter terrorism officers are investigating the stabbing last Friday
of an Iranian TV host outside his home in London. Iran International presenter
Pouria Zeraati was hospitalised, before being discharged and moving to a safe
place under the supervision of the Metropolitan Police. We talk to British
Iranian journalist Sima Sabet, who has also been targeted. Have US diplomats
been targeted by Russian sonic weaponry? A joint report between The Insider,
Der Spiegel and CBS's 60 Minutes alleges it’s the result of their brains being
targeted by "directed energy" weapons operated by a secretive Russian military
unit. We meet one of the journalists involved in the story. In Londonderry
journalists covering a dissident republican parade on Easter Monday were
attacked with petrol bombs thrown by masked youths. Politicians have condemned
the violence. We hear the testimony of one of the reporters targeted. We talk
to the producers behind the successful BBC reboot of Gladiators. And as Gmail
celebrates its 20th anniversary, how useful is email today as a form of
communication? Or has it been overtaken by messaging apps like WhatsApp?
Guests: Sima Sabet, former presenter, Iran International; Dan Baldwin, Managing
Director, Hungry Bear Media; Julia Hobsbawm, journalist and author; Niall
Deeney, Derry Correspondent, Belfast Live; Mike Isaac, Tech Reporter, The New
York Times; Shashank Joshi, Defence Editor, The Economist; Michael Weiss,
Editor, The Insider. (57”)

Re: [Internetradio] Ocean Digital cable

2024-04-10 Thread Eric Floden
Thanks. I looked at the manual, but I am amazingly unfluent in talking and
IDing cables...
