Walt,

Thanks for the information on REE on 3350. With 100 kw, no wonder they had a
strong signal. Not listed in the 2007 WRTH.

Pete,

Seems like about 3 stations, all with some sort of sports program in and out on
1380. Heard a KRKO ID. Did have the Salem station in at 3 minutes to the hour
but faded to KRKO. Tried the Kiwa loop and the Ewe, H-800 & the HPAW with the
same result. Will try at 11:00 pm.

[IRCA] Spanish on 3350 kHz with 6 pips

2007-04-01 Thread vroomski

Listening to a tropical band Spanish speaking station on 3350 kHz, they have 6
pips at 29 minutes and 59 minutes. Music and talk. Man and woman alternate at
TOH. Good signal at times with fading. The 6 pips are heard over the
programming. WRTH show 2 stations from Peru and a 100 watt from Bolivia. PWBR
has Spain "Radio Exterior Espana" via Costa Rica.

Thanks for the help w/CKMO. When I was in that neck of

[IRCA] HOW IT LOOKS: 07 IRCA E-Mail Dir

2007-04-01 Thread Charles A Taylor
GROUP:

1. Here's the first TEST run of the 2007 IRCA E-Mail Directory.
2. MIKE STONEBROOK, I lost your e-mail address. Resend please!
3. I'm doing this to get the rest of you to notice and send me
your e-mail address.
4. Some did not send QTHs. Maybe that's an oversight. If you
think so, send it in and I'll heave it in!
5. If you want your e-mail address restated, tell me what to put
in place of what you see.
6. Tell me if your e-mail client justifies this well. If not,
I may have to start attaching this as a separate file.
7. If you sent in your e-mail address and it's not below, it's
my fault. Remind me.
8. If all else fail, Call the Grifton Police Department.

Those Asian stations must really want to be heard. With those
K-indices, I would have thought I'd have heard very little from Asia

Thanks for the information on Radio Sonder Grense, Meyerton. Have not heard

The next question is : If the hiss on 1110 from Oak

evening shift? We'll have to keep an ear on the
situation.--Bill in BC

Charlie,

KWDB does have a decent signal down here all day at 200 miles, but it is
surrounded by water and I am sure that helps. 1480? Must be the Lakewood
station you are talking about, Mountlake Terrace was on 1510. Got those
under several calls too. Mountlake Terrace (old KURB) disappeared back
in the mid 80s I believe had a zillion call changes too. 1480, as well
as 1420 are rare to hear. Both null this way.

You are correct on 3320. Radio Sonder Grense, Meyerton, is a common catch on
that frequency at the time you reported. The are often heard in the

indicator station for 90m Africans during our local evenings.

Listened to 3320kHz from 0500-0558 ut, the station played a classical music
program with a male announcer in what might have been English. The music
came through ok, but was unable to ID the language. SABC in South Africa
would be my guess. To early for DPR Korea, have heard them around 1200 ut.
This station sign-off shortly before 0600 ut. There is also a 1 kw station
in Peru listed for the frequency. Has anyone heard the type of program on
3320 kHz? Passport to world band radio list a sign-off at 0500 ut for this
frequency.

All heard in Troy MI using a Sony ICF-2010 with loop antenna:

WGRB 1390 Chicago IL, 3/31/07, 10:58-11:00 PM EDT. Urban gospel music, TOH
ID of "WGRD Chicago" mixed in with others but no sign of usual WNIO. Nice to
hear Chicago at less than 50 kw! MW#392; IL#13; 1390#3.

WMBD 1470 Peoria IL, 3/31/07, 11:20-11:30 PM EDT. End of NCAA semi-final
basketball game, national ads, post game talk, local ads with several
mentions of Peoria, then a deep man's voice with "WMBD". Almost armchair
quality signal on this one for 5 kw out of Central Illinois. MW#393; IL#14;
1470#3.

WFNA 1660 Charlotte NC, 4/1/07, 12:05 AM EDT. NCAA basketball talk on ESPN
Radio. Normally, I hear WQSN Kalamazoo Michigan for ESPN radio on 1660, but
there call sign ID was as plain as day "WFNA". Also hearing some classical
music, and New Jersey appears to be in the mix as well. MW#394; NC#8,
1660#3.

Note, it occurred to me that the classical music on 1660 was very likely
Kansas City, KS, but further listening did not provide a call sign.

Patrick and Bill,

KJTT verie sign, Dave Bowden: went to church with him (Mormon/LDS). Station
started about 1985. Much opposition to proposed tower down south of Oak Harbor.
I cannot remember who consulting engineer was, but he was one of the best
prepared
engineers I've know. Put his own station on 1480. Mountain Lake (Washington),
I think.

A bit of irony:

When KISD went on the air, a 69-kV subtransmission line and a underbuilt
12.5-kV
distribution line.ran along the road in front of the transmitter site.

The ground wires on the poles phased with KISD's tower to put a null right up
through Oak Harbor! I could hear KBND-1110 Bend (Oregon) clearly underneath
KISD up in the wildlife reserve of Ault Field Naval Air Station, north of Oak
Harbor!

[IRCA] TPs for 1 April

2007-04-01 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Looks like Old Sol has pulled an April Fool joke this morning, as TP
reception took a real dive from yesterday. Still a fair number of
carriers, but the DU ones dominated this morning, and the only audio was
a couple of minutes worth from 1116 4BC. Apart from 1116, the
strongest carriers were 612, 702, and 891, all presumed DU.After
scanning the band I did a check, and sure enough, the K index was up to
4, so the reception pattern certainly fit.

[IRCA] 2007 IRCA E-Mail Directory

2007-04-01 Thread Charles A Taylor

Group:

I'm surprised at the positive comments about the above.

For those who are concerned about SPAMbots, I propose to list your
e-mail address in the form

MWDXer isp com

unless you prefer

MWDXer(at)isp(dot)com.

For me, being able to cut-and-paste an e-mail address is important.

Once again, I would like a bare-bones QTH, so that other users will
have an idea where their DXer neighbors are.

Once again, my example:

TAYLOR, Charles A Grifton, NC[EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I don't get an input from you, I'll query you via direct mail to ask your
go-ahead to include your address.

73,

Charles

2007-04-01 Thread Patrick Martin
Colin & Bill,

I hear the same thing which does sound like IBOC hash on 1100 & 1120
here too. Now this is strange. KWDB with IBOC? Now I have heard it all.
I am not even going to ask the obvious question.
