Pat, I agreed that Virgin Radio was never as strong as Russia 1215 this evening. I have heard Virgin many times, but never an ID, usually just the pop music or a English accented announcer. [IRCA] Another Alaskan heard
Hi Everyone: After my success earlier this week logging both KFQD and KICY, and now that the Edson AB station is no more, I thought I would try for the Fairbanks station on 970. First 2 nights were a bust with many ID's heard for both KBUL and WDAY. However, some times there was another unknown station under KBUL. Hopefully I set up my receiver/recorder again last night. This morning at 09:00MDT I heard the following announcement by a male voice that said: "Motor Trend (at least that's what it sounded like) weekend is best on News Radio 970 KFBX Fairbanks. It's 7.00AM" Then followed ABC news. Not as clear as the earlier two catches, but was alone on the frequency. Mike in St Isidore, AB with AOR 7030+, Quantum Phaser, EWE's of 110' & 125', a 1000' E/W beverage and a 1000' BOG at 300 degrees, both unterminated. ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] TPs for 10 Oct
For reasons unknown, I'm not seeing any incoming mail on my ISP's webmail site, but will hope outgoing works OK. It wasn't a great morning overall, but it certainly wasn't a bad one either. The regular big gun Japanese were there, plus audio on 558, presumably JOCR. It was a pretty fair morning for China, with audio on 1593 (v.poor), 1206, 1089, 981, and 945 (all good). Korean audio was noted on 972 and 1566, with a few seconds of audio from presumed Taiwan on 1557. I think Don has kept you informed about our TA catches. It was certainly amazing to hear a clear Radio Farda ID on 1575 at noon local time! Re: [IRCA] Alaskan QSLs
Let me join in with my comedic two cents worth. I did hear KENI-650-Anchorage last night at 1:05a.m. PST with ID above XETNT & mucho QRN in KSTEs null. First time I've looked for them this season. It is the ONLY Alaskan I can hear down here anymore. My present location is almost as bad as location I had on the east side of Twin Peaks from 1979-1986, at least as far as hearing Alaskans. Just way too much urban generated noise here. And NO the wife says we aren't moving. Don Patrick Martin wrote: > John, > > What a great bunch of AK QSLs. Glad to see you nabbing more of them. Re: [IRCA] CHUC-less
I had Fort Wayne IN from Toronto Thursday evening, and Holland MI Friday morning from Burnt River. Both new logs. I logged WCTC New Brunswick NJ on SSS Friday, for a relog. I also had music from India and other points east, with a language that may have had a very little bit of French in it, or be French spoken by immigrants. Two candidates are WCEV Chicago, and CHOU Montreal QC. I do think I heard a CHOU ID that sounded like "Shoe". Regardless, it was the dominant station for much of last night, and it's only a matter of time. DX this morning...there was none. The TAs seemed to fade early last night on LW, and the MW hets disappeared around the same time. Caught up on my sleep from being up all night the night before. Niel Wolfish joins me here at Burnt River in about an hour. We'll see if cx improve and we'll try for the 940 WI DX test early Monday morning. For those who care about FM, meteor scatter has been hopping, though only one burst IDed (92.3 Omaha NE). Saul > Jim Renfrew, Holley NY > > CHUC is now gone. Re: [IRCA] TP's late night 11-09-07 Morning 11-10-07
I didn't try for anything this morning but listened from 0730 to 0805 last night. Things seemed quite promising until about 0755: At 0730-0745 747 JOIB had great audio at times 774 JOUB was not as strong as 747 and had mucho splatter from my 770 local, but was good a times 693 JOAB produced bits of audio in the CBU splatter 1287 JOHR had a rising carrier and snatches of audio 850 had religion blowing away KHHO/KOA at 0750, but gradually faded and was gone before 0800. I'm assuming it was KICY I rechecked the band at 0805, and found a carrier on 747 with no other signs of TP activity. Except for me, since I can see the WMAJ tower from my house :-( 1450 is the least populated frequncy in my logs, for obvious reasons. Re: [IRCA] WOWO 1190
WOWO also was one of the first stations that I DXed. That was in the '80s, when I still lived on Long Island. I remember the "We'll make your day" slogan. I also remember Dugan Fry (sp.?), but I can't remember when he was with the station. After I moved to Columbia, Mo., I often would listen to WOWO around midnight, when I was unwinding after work. That was in the mid-1990s, and I would call every now and then to request a song. Hard to believe that was only 10 years ago. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Blaine Thompson Sent: Friday, November 09, 2007 10:29 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: irca@hard-core-dx.com Subject: Re: [IRCA] WOWO 1190 On Fri, 9 Nov 2007, Paul B. [IRCA] TPs for Nov 10: Yuck!
This morning was somewhat improved from yesterday, but still poor, by any standards. Both early and at dawn, the band was fairly well populated with fairly strong hets, about half of which were putting in the very weakest possible threshold audio. Only 11 stations rose to very marginal "language recognition" level counting both early and dawn together. Of that 11, only five produced audio where I could follow sentences, etc. 747, 774, 828, all NHK2 Japan, 963, the Chinese Russian language service and 1574, VOA Thailand. 1566 HLAZ never made it even close to audio, at least while I was watching. Re: [IRCA] 1510 KCKK into Scotland
It might be good to remember that the ole boy in Scotland doesn't have all the QRM to contend with as Powell, Paul and myself have to put with. We are in the middle of an RF jungle where as, Scotland is far outside of the jungle. Also Scotland doesn't have all the IBOC crap, blocking every channel from 1000 to 1210, as we in the south have. It is also interesting to note that the majority of the IBOC QRM is from yankee stations to the north. Wonder if anyone has DXed an IBOC signal, and if so, how did they ID it? Willis > --- "Paul B.
