[IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Saturday

2008-06-14 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Slightly improved DU reception this morning--it probably would have been a
good time to be at the coast. Audio didn't reach good levels but a number
were heard, and hets covered the whole band.
612, 702, 738, 774, 819, 855, 891, 1116 all had audio with 891 and 1116
reaching occasional poor/weak levels (7/8 rating). Audio first heard at 1132
and fading away at 1216 utc.

LWBC Far East Russia 180 poor/weak, 279 very poor/poor at 1114 utc.

[IRCA] TPs from Orcas Island on June 14: High Average

2008-06-14 Thread John H. Bryant

Slightly better than "average," what ever that is

As has been usual lately, audio was only available from about 1155 to
1220. Sort of the last half hour before legal dawn. 612 Australia led
the way early and was actually an "8" briefly. It stayed in at some
level until 1220. There was a scattering of most of the usual low
band suspects in audio, all at threshold unless noted:

567
612 Decent at times ABC
675 National Radio Christchurch. Poor early, decent late
747 DU EE
756 NZ time check at 1206
765 Decent late
837 T late
855 has been a very persistent het lately, almost audio. Wonder
who? 4QB, Pialba?
1017 Was a large OC at 1158, lower level Rock mx later. Tonga early,
Hauraki Christchurch late??? Or 2KY Sydney???

Nice morning, really.

Hava nice weekend!

[IRCA] eQSL Announcement

2008-06-14 Thread kj8o
Hello everyone,

Just checking into the eQSL website (as I do from time to time, hi) and
their latest announcement is:

* If you operate a Broadcast station or a Beacon, please watch this Site
News for a new account category we are going to implement shortly, that you
will want to take advantage of.

For the uninitiated, eQSL is an online QSL service commencing in 1998 and
originally devoted to the ham community. They even allow SWLs to submit
reception to reports to hams.

I wonder if all this discussion lately of on-line reception reports may have
prompted their decision.

Lastly, their website is: www.eqsl.cc --- don't use the dotcom extension as
that is another company completely outside their domain.

The SRF-59 is the inmate's choice at the establishment at which I work.

The '59 is extremely well spoken of by those that use it although I have a

Should a wave of AM DXing suddenly sweep the establishment I will let the

[IRCA] TP's for Jun 14

2008-06-14 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Listening between 1140 and 1200UT, and didn't hear anything like John or Steve
did: pretty dull here. Interestingly, the propagation monitor showed a peak
on 612 at around 1155 using a tuned box loop in the attic, but I heard nothing
like that on the westerly Flag. Shows that you need all the antennas you can
get, I guess

pretty darn good audio (at least briefly): none

reasonable audios (though often battling w/splash): none

not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise: none

Burbles in the splatter and noise: 738 Australia per direction finding

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 612,

I could see one or two of 'em possibly developing an interest as a way to
pass the time but a lot of them don't have two brain cells to rub together
or any form of intellectual curiosity. (Sorry, but it regrettably *is* the
truth.)

I can easily see, however, how you could probably do a formidable job as a
DXer with that as one of your main forms of intellectual stimulation and
much time on your hands should the bug bite.

Mind you, the steel and concrete walls would not be conducive to good
reception at night and we sure as hell wouldn't want anyone wandering around
the yard late at night looking for WOWO..

Still, there's one guy who cleans units I may mention it to - just to see if
it kindles any spark.

Let me get my two cents in on this thread.
I am about 150 miles south of WIRV. I hear them at lease once or twice a
month here in Old Fort, TN, and they do run day power sometimes at night.
Not always. They use to be in here every night, and I do believe they have
gotten a handle on what ever was their problem, as they use to be nightly
visitor here. Now only at times.

My major 1550 stations is the one out of Tampa, FL area in Spanish. The
station that Castro loves to jam. I can hear the jammer almost nightly.

Thank you for your time,

Re: [IRCA] Summer daytime skip

2008-06-14 Thread Kenneth Nawalkowski

Hi,
I have noticed abnormally high daytime skip here in Manitoba this
spring. I thought maybe it has to do with the very cool weather up here so
was waiting until summer temperatures arrive to see if it goes away before
mentioning it. Here is what's unusual here: KBHB 810 Sturgis, SD is booming
in loud and clear and is almost as strong as CKJS 810 Winnipeg MB. KOA 850
and KFAB 1110 come in weak but clearly audible almost all day long. The skip
is exclusively from the south. Reception from the east and west is normal.
Example: CHQR 770 Calgary AB is weak to non existent which is normal here.

Greetings everyone,

I hve noticed lot of daytime skip this June. Short skip days, like
Eastern OR/WA graveyarders popping in at times with a lot of fading even
around Noon. Hard to adjust the termination on the WNW EWE even as early
at 5:00 PM PDT with unstabe signals. An unusual Summer so far for skip.

[IRCA] Jans Bay 1330

2008-06-14 Thread Patrick Martin
Has anyone "ever" heard the 50 watt station at Jans Bay in Northern Sask
on 1330? I am surprised they operate on the same frequency at Rosetown.
In the Winter, that may be a good station to shoot for, if you could get
by Rosetown. Other than the LPRTs, Jans Bay is the only other SASK
station I still need to hear & QSL. For those looking for Jans Bay, it
is North of Meadow Lake.

Re: [IRCA] Summer daytime skip

2008-06-14 Thread Dennis Gibson
KUNX-1590 in Ventura is SS and has been for quite some time. KKZZ-1400 in
Santa Paula is //KVTA-1520 with about a 5 second delay. I guess the
simulcast is because KVTA drops to 1 KW at night and has a huge null to the
east to protect Oklahoma City so they may not make it to Santa Paula.

Seems to me that I read where Ventura & Santa Paula have made another
format switch. So suspect that spanish language music is back on 1590
from Ventura.
