[IRCA] un ID HAR stations

2008-09-22 Thread Nigel Pimblett
I'm going over a recent tape of 1610 khz and have a mix of a couple of
stations I've been unable to identfiy.

One tape loop has a female voice, and talks about westbound traffic
being reduced to one lane in certain hours. She says "This is the
highway advisory radio", but doesn't mention any location, other than
what sounds like "the 10th Avenue interchange", though I'm not at all
sure on the name of the avenue.. She does give a call sign, but the
best I could get out of that was W---569, and I can't find anything
corresponding in the FCC database.

The second has a male voice, and mentions "road and weather
information", but for most of the tape loop runs the NOAA weather.
During the weather I heard a reference to the northern Blue Mountains,
so I'm thinking eastern Oregon looks likely.

If anybody can help out on either of these it would certainly be
appreciated.

Hi Nigel:

Think Famous Potatoes! Per:

http://apps.itd.idaho.gov/apps/MediaManagerViewer/NewsRelease/NewsRelease.aspx?Id=1104

there is construction on I-84 in Canyon County and advises that you take
the 10th avenue exit, exit 28. The Blue Mountains extend into Idaho.

Bruce Bacon lives in the Boise area, which is about 20 miles up the road -
maybe he can actually hear it?

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 9-22

2008-09-22 Thread D1028Gary
Good Morning,

Asiatic signals were down noticeably from yesterday, with no new
modified ICF-2010 or E100 loggings. The Japanese and Korean blowtorches (594,
747,
774, 828, 672, and 1566) were the only stations with strong audio, although
some weaker TP's showed up off and on (657, 963, 1575).
Even with all the mediocrity, JOAK-594 and JOIB-747 were still strong
enough to be easily heard on a stock Prison Radio at 1335, and a weak UnID
station on 1062 briefly had threshold audio on both the 2010 and E100-- but
will have to wait for better conditions for a real logging.
After yesterday's superb signals, the first day of fall was a real
propagation fall-off..

 73, Gary

Re: [IRCA] un ID HAR stations (1610)

2008-09-22 Thread Steve Ratzlaff

Hi Nigel,
Your second one, "male voice" is the 1610 NOAA station out of Pendleton, OR.
I'm listening to it as I type this, it's easy copy. It's a very long tape,
maybe 10 minutes, but says "NOAA Weather WXO95 in Pendleton" at the
end/start. It covers all of North Eastern Oregon and mentions all my local
area, both Union, Baker, John Day and Wallowa Counties. All my local area is
part of the Blue Mountains (which are not generally considered to extend
into Idaho).

585 is especially hot tonight, but unfortunately the quasi-local 590 in
Boston is also more splattery than usual. Does sound like Spain, however.

[IRCA] Alberta TA's

2008-09-22 Thread Nigel Pimblett

Hey, something beyond carriers tonight!

I was busy all evening, but just flipped on the receiver around 0400 and
noting in and out audio on 1134 Croatia, 1179 Sweden, and 1062 Denmark.
Sweden is the most consistent of the three.

Hi, fellas. Just got home at 05:00 UTC and note weak audio on 1215 here in
Victoria, BC. Nothing on 1134 by now, but reasonable carriers on 999 and 1008
as well. Sounds like it might have been a half decent evening for TAs..Walt

Here in Victoria, only listened from 13:35 to about 13:55 and generally things
weren't too bad. What was interesting, was a sudden sharp increase in signal
strength around 13:54. Where things were buried in the mud a minute before,
they suddenly rose in strength. For example, 828 NHK2 was not there at 13:52,
but at 7 to 8 strength at 13:54. KTWG was a 7 at 13:55. Heard some dance
music at 13:52 on 846 at 8 level. Not sure exactly who that'd be. CRI in
Russian on 963 was a strong 7 at 13:49. HLAZ 1566 a 9 at 13:40, compared to 7
for 1575 Thailand. Not bad, not great.Walt in Victoria, BC
