Re: [IRCA] 600 AM Vancouver,BC
InterestingI wonder if CISL will change to the 600 format? I kind of hoped someone would pick it up, but more like 730. CISL's mix of the oldies is great. I would not want them to change format. Re: [IRCA] [ultralightdx] Grayland Ultralight DXpedition-- Nov. 2 (TP's by the Truckload)
Great job, Gary I'm glad that you finally hit one of the really good TP mornings down there... and I'm especially glad that you did so well with the DT-400W. Bravo all the way around. John Bryant At 08:51 PM 11/2/2008 -0500, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello Guys, Sometimes everything just seems to fall into place! Not only was I able to book Room 15 at the Grayland Motel on short notice, but I had the whole motel to myself, with no RF pollution of any kind. I had always wondered what it would be like at Grayland on a fantastic TP morning, and today I found out! 18 new TP's were received on the stand-alone Slider E100 (for a total of 70 now), with many second-tier Japanese, Korean and Chinese stations that never could make it to my inland Puyallup location. The stock Sangean DT-400W also ran wild, with easy loggings of VOA-1575 in Thailand, VOV-675 in Vietnam and Taiwan-738, as well as about 12 other TP's. The band was still going strong in broad daylight at 1545, and two new Ultralight countries were logged (Alaska and the Marshall Islands). A booming mp3 of choral music from 1098-Marshall Islands was obtained at 0741 on the Slider E100, along with many other recordings of obscure Japanese stations. Guy Atkins was set up at the Grayland Beach State Park about a mile south of me, and he also had a fantastic time with his Perseus, Wellbrook Array and SRF-39FP prison radio. One of the main objectives of this trip was to compare the performance of the different E100 modifications (stock, filter only, Slider loopstick only, and fully modified E100) in actual TP DXing conditions, and some very interesting information was obtained for an upcoming "E100 Four Variant Shootout" article, to be posted on DXer.Ca. This should prove useful for any DXers considering E100 modifications of any kind. Re: [IRCA] 1215 Kaliningrad QSL?
Patrick I sent them a report+CD last year and mailed it to the Voice of Russia address listed in the WRTH. Three weeks later I received an e-mail from Elena Osipova in the VOR Letters Dept saying "Your reception report and the CD were forwarded to the Russian language Service of the Voice of Russia. I am not sure, however, they will be able to recognize their broadcast since the quality of recording is very poor." I never heard anything more from them and haven't sent a follow-up, though I did subsequently receive a QSL from VoR 's JJ service on 720. Nonetheless, her e-mail at least confirmed that my report made it through the Russian mail system. I'm not sure why the Russian Service never answered - perhaps they didn't care, or couldn't make anything out of my recording, maybe the report was lost in the inter-office mail, or maybe they sent a QSL and I never got it. [IRCA] 1215 Kaliningrad QSL?
Hi everyone, Has anyone managed to get a QSL out of Kaliningrad 1215. I sent my report to Moscow last Fall without ny luck. Recently, I sent another out directly to Kaliningrad and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Hi Luc, Welcome to the IRCA list. Living in NW Oregon, Quebec is a rare province to log from here on MW. I have a few, but not many. Granby 1450 is my best, logged & QSL'd via DX Test before they moved to FM a few years ago. [IRCA] New casual MW DXer
Hi all, I'm a new casual MW DXer and new to the list, I'm Luc Fontaine, ham operator VE2FXL from St-Georges in Quebec, locator FN46pc. My station: Rig:Icom IC-746Pro Antennas: Alpha-Delta DX-Ultra modified for ham bands in inverted V with center at 20 feet high and a not tuned (maybe soon) long wire abt 150 feet at just abt 4 feet high acting as noise and phasing/dephasing antenna Phaser: MFJ-1025 (modified for MW) So I've been listening for about a month and playing with the MFJ so I've got audio with positive ID for France Info on 1205 and 1377 (strongest here), Croatia on 1134 (one of the strongest), Absolute Radio on 1215, Arabic music with no ID on 1521 (abt sure of Saudi Arabia) but could be IRIB also, BBC Radio Live 5 on 909, TalkSports on 1053 (not sure but british accent) Also, some others with audio at least one time but no ID and language discernable: -693 (seems to be english) -738 (male voice) -747 (male voice not english) -756 (female + music no language discernable) -774 (male and female talking, nearly sure Arabic, I think it's Morroco), -873 (with music) -882 (male voice) BBC Radio Whales? -1179 (able to hear language but known) -1404 -1422 (heard music not from middle east music so could be Germany) Also carriers from weak to strong on nearly all 9 kHz frequencies on the DM780 waterfall in USB. When I'm in the PSK31 mode and I'm "tuning" on the carrier, when DM780 has a signal of at least 20db over the noise, there's a good chance of have audio on that channel but sometimes only in LSB or USB. So for a first log here's my first MW DX with the stock radio in my car last night at 0102 UTC: 910 from Cuba, I heard Radio Cuba, could be Cadena but not sure so I look on the net, the two possible ones are: Radio Cadena with 10 kW and CMBD with 75 kW beating all the 51 other MW in NA. I will not be a regular on the list but I read often the postings here. Very interesting. BTW, could someone tell me what are TA and TP? 73's to all Luc Fontaine VE2FXL St-Georges, QC, Canada FN46PC ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] 1215 Kaliningrad in
Hope I don't miss all the action, fellas. Kalinigrad was a real regular last year here in Victoria, as was Virgin (now Absolute Radio) and COPE. Also heard Farda on 1575 at pretty decent levels early in the evening once or twice last year (and on the Charlottes once in the morning). I'm stuck at the hospital with another delivery for the time being, so good luck to everyone tonight!Walt. - Original Message - From: Jim Renfrew <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sunday, November 2, 2008 2:44 pm Subject: [IRCA] 1215 Kaliningrad in To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America , [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] > 1638 EDT1215 khz music and announcers match > VO Russia live web audio and > also being heard via Global Tuners receiver in Sweden. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] 1215 Kaliningrad in etc etc
Got it here in WI w/RR sometimes thru Absolute. Quite a nice night here, but not much real low band action. Not much Spain. While looking for Moldova 999 from 2301-2 I noted the Koranic Saudi clear but soon lost to the rising COPE pest from Madrid. [IRCA] TPs on Orcas Island: Nov. 2
Like the others, I had a second morning very like Nov. 1st: Good conditions, strong orientation to Japan. The low band was about as full of JJs as it ever gets, mostly at good levels; The high band had more audio that most other AMs this season, but about half of it was just whisper level. There were also a few interesting mainland stations around, but most of the regulars were either not there at all or way down. The few things that were unusual were: 621 had a real echo-fest about 1400, but it was not the NHK1 synchros... it was the three KBS1 synchros... a first here, I think. Later, at 1500, there was quite an elaborate TOH for a singleton Chinese, I think from Heillongjiang. 1026 and 1062 continue to have a variety of stations taking turns on them... unfortunately, all are at levels that preclude positive IDs but very interesting (file that under "Hope Springs Eternal!") 1260 had JOIR Sendai on it, totally dominating for a few minutes... 1503-07. That is the rarest of my "usual" co-channels: 1260, 1350 and 1440. 1350 was also there about the same time. For some reason 1440 in Sapporo was not there the most usual of the three and the other big commercial station in Sapporo, JOHR, 1287 was poorer than usual this AM. Hu. There was also interesting low audio on 1143, 1251, 1305, 1332, 1395, 1404 and 1431. Not even language-recognition level on any of them, unfortunately. I really look forward to hearing from the Grayland contingent. Re: [IRCA] KKOB Santa Fe
I've caught KKOB's 230 Watt Santa Fe night time fill-in transmitter still on in the daytime quite often lately. The wobbulating is quite noticeable and annoying up here in Los Alamos. What I don't know is whether their main transmitter in ABQ was also still on night pattern, but very well could've been. I've commented before that the SAH shows that the fill-in isn't really a synchro, even though the FCC data lists it as such. Re: [IRCA] QSL request
Hey Craig, Yeah, it's not really that much to work with but with what I came up with on the first play was not far off. "WNBS". Once you mentioned the call letters, then I could see/hear the "S" being an "H"- power of suggestion..., hi. From the DX end, I would have studied this a little more and probably would have came to the same conclusion. Bottom line though is that I wouldn't send a reception report without more info., unless it was a once in a lifetime opportunity etc. I'm sure a broadcaster or DJ can possibly hear more out of tape if it's a familiar voice or sound perhaps. 73- Doug Pifer Oregon Drake R8B, Kiwa Loop > ---Original Message--- > From: Craig Healy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [IRCA] QSL request > Sent: Nov 02 '08 07:17 > >... > Aw heck, I don't mind post-conditioning this. Take a look at the "972" entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki?title=Talk:Radio_jamming_in_Korea And you'll see there was jamming reported on 972 about a year ago. I haven't noted it this fall during several Beverage DXpeditions. [IRCA] TPs from Victoria for 2Nov08: Still JJ
Despite the urge to catch the extra hour of sleep this morning, my internal "DX" clock woke me up about 14:00, and I was able to DX through to 15:40. A very strong JJ morning again with plenty to hear, but also a smattering of others too. 180 and 279 were both well heard, with 180 better for a change compared to 279. The NHK2 stations were more abundant, I thought, than the NHK1s with 774, for example, being still a 7 to 8 at sign-off at 15:40. 738 had a hodge-podge of stations, with the Australian at a 9 briefly at one point, but not heard on later rechecks. 873 seemed particularly strong my way from NHK2 this morning, equal to 747, 828, and the usual dominant 774. The North Koreans were there, but weaker than many mornings, and I think the CC were way down. 963, for example was barely audible. Yanbian in KK, however, was a solid 9 here. Nothing else obvious from DU noted. I don't have my list since I was called away for another delivery. 73s to all, and as usual, I look forward to the report from Grayland! ..Walt. ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] KGAB + TPs
650: KGAB was not found 11/1 9pm PDT. I did hear a couple of "newsradio 650" anncts which seems to match KENI. Meanwhile, on 11/2 between 1255-1415 UTC, a reasonable array if in- and-out audios among the 20 or so hets: 648 There is a bad local buzz on this part of the band making intelligibility difficult but this was in and out over the hour I listened with what appeared to be Chinese rather than Korean. However, the music selection I heard sounded Russian. VOR Primorskiy presumed. 693 JOAB by far the loudest TP of the morning, mostly with EE/JJ lessons 783 seemed like a tone here or perhaps a het between two 783 stations. No audio but a definite carrier (or two) 891 almost audio through the barely-there 890 domestic(s) 954 JOKR in for a spell through KJR slop 963 definitely a strong carrier but couldn't pull any audio out 972 HLCA intelligible at both 1300 and 1400. However, it was really fuzzy at 1400; do North Korean jammers go on at 1400 or was this just an increase in the noise level? [IRCA] Alberta TPs for 2 Nov 2008
A good morning, as noted by Dennis. In southern Alberta at least the focus was on Japan again (with a few interesting exceptions). The Japanese big guns were at amazing levels this morning, especially 594 and 693. At its peak Japan on 594 was splattering Spokane on 590, and the usual IBOC hash from KOJM 610 was completely buried. Heard audio from Japan on 531, 567,585, 639, 666, 693, 702, 729, 747, 774, 828, 873, 1071, 1134, 1179, and 1242. The only definite Chinese heard was on 1206, and the only Koreans were the regulars on 972 and 1566. Russia was in on 648, and in fact for a while I was hearing 2 stations there. Logged Family Radio from Taiwan on 1557 for the first time this season. Was hoping the weak audio I noted on 738 would also be from Taiwan, but the few words I could manage to hear sounded more Russian than Chinese, so that one will remain a mystery. Also a mystery was some brief audio I noted on 1467, not a frequency I'm used to hearing anything on. Nice the hear the high end of the band showing a bit more life. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
