[IRCA] TP for 5 Apr from Victoria, BC
Actually not a bad morning, though as always, you had to be on the spot to hear things out of the ordinary. For example, heard CC talk on 936 at 1326UT this morning, and that was it; before and after that magic 45 seconds, and it was just a carrier. Listened from 1315UT to 1350UT, when things were pretty much done except for weaker audio on the old regulars. pretty darn good audio (at least briefly): 594 JOAK 603 HLSA //558; not having Vancouver on 600 is sure helping in hearing this, didn't last long at this level (1318UT). 747 JOIB 774 JOUB 828 JOBB 1566 HLAZ at 1326 thundering in; still pretty readable after pattern change at 1345UT reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or noise): 567 JOIK //594 873 JOGB //828 972 HLCA 1053 100Hz hum, still unID not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise: 612 4QR most likely; EE talk at 1350UT 936 CC talk by woman at 1326UT; presumed Anhui 1575 likely VoA Burbles in the splatter and noise: 558 2 stations; one //603 so HLQH, other assumed JOCR 639 not sure if this was CNR-1 (it was Asian); most of time couldn't hear it as parallel to 5030, but then it was 648 unID, likely Russia 702 man talking, pretty murky, but direction said 2BL 954 JOKR? 1134 seemed //972, so S. Korea 1242 nothing to ID it; JOLF? 1422 murky talk w/big carrier; assumed JORF 1494 unID ,sounded like choral mx 1512 unID, no direction possible, woman talking in murk 1593 JOTB/JOQB seemed //828 Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 1098DU, 1377, 1386, 1404, 1475 briefly w/het from 1476, best wishes, Nick * Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Equinoxial Propagation in the Southern Hemisphere (from Ultralightdx)
HHHell Hmmm...Difficult to tell really cos I don't listen every day...BUT..There is some kind of mid-winter anomaly that I've noticed. Signals from across both ponds seem to be best either side of this period. In fact some of the best N.American reception for me has come in midsummer recently (January)..and Aussie reception is good in May, August Sept if I recall correctly.. Vince For Gary, Vince and John in South Africa (and Horacio and Huelbe in South America), This question was raised by one of our dedicated TP and TA DXers on the IRCA mailing list, and I'm sure that some of you could answer his question quite well. Do you notice that long-range DX conditions are much better in the months of August, September and October (like here in the Northern Hemisphere), or during the months of March and April? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated! 73, Gary DeBock Having been an ardent TP and TA DXer for several seasons, I've noticed that in my part of the world, the Fall equinox far exceeds Spring equinox for TP and TA DX. My question is thus: Do our DU colleagues experience the same Fall/Spring differences (ie their Fall/Spring) expe do they mimic our September superiority over March? Has there been any research in this area, and explanation for the differences? .Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC. __,_._,___ **Worried about job security? Check out the 5 safest jobs in a recession. No screen door effects at all. There were some light-engine redesigns on some of the sets that were covered under and after warranty. Not published, but manufacturers were replacing them for customers. I had mine done one time. Some of the cable companies compress the stuff too much, luckily mine is decent about that. Colin, The past is wonderful, and the future is amazing. I run an Internet radio station, and its audio is better than any radio station I ever worked for. And it's as good in Australia as it is in my home. I wouldn't have believed it 15 years ago. Unfortunately, radio jobs aren't what they used to be, so in that light, the past looks better. But the world is full of wonder. -- Rick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Rick, How does one go about starting and operating an Internet Radio Station? I've wanted to start one for years, but I've never know who to ask or what to ask, for that matter. Re: [IRCA] And now for something completely different - OT
Kevin, Who makes your LCD and what is the size cost? The top of the like LCDs are much better for SD. So many people I know buy the cheapie LCDs and they good great in HD, but the SD looks horrible. They just don't seem to down convert well. A friend in LA spent $3,000 for his 52 and it is great in SD or HD, but $3 grand for a TV is a bit much.
