I was in WI and testing my Perseus. Love it, but make sure that you cable
your antennas in or you may have some laptop generated noise. Nothing I have
ever used can do what the Perseus can do with its filters and the ability to
shape them perfectly combined with a stunningly good notch.

2009-11-29 Thread Patrick Martin
Dennis,

This morning while getting ready for church, I tuned across the dial and
I noticed KTRP back testing. The same signal here. Under CKWX off NE
EWE, but on top of CKWX off SW EWE.
The Canadians are as strong as ever here. :-) Plenty of them. CBU is the
strongest.

2009-11-29 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Just a quick listen on and off this morning, supposedly around sunrise
enhancement, 1520 to 1550UT. If this was enhancementhi.

pretty darn good audio, at least briefly (all of it understandable by a native
speaker)

594 JOAK

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker,
though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB pretty good level, but didn't really overcome the splatter
972 HLCA ; strong carrier

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker

558 HLQH //603, w/someone underneath (JOCR?)
828 JOBB
945 CNR-1 //5030 at 1539UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

567 JOIK //594
603 HLSA //558
639 mostly CNR-1, but at least one other; good carrier
675 Vietnam?
936 at 1549UT
954 likely JOKR
1134 KBS //972

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

1566, 1575

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA (very early) TP's for 11-29

2009-11-29 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

Having discovered some pretty healthy Asian TP signals around the pretty
unhealthy local hour of 0300 yesterday, it was an easy decision to try for
more DXing success during the Asian sunset period early this morning.
Unfortunately the TP's that were fairly strong yesterday seemed up and down in
strength this time, and second-tier Asian audio was nowhere to be found.

Around 0930 UTC the NHK powerhouses (594, 747, and 828 kHz) and usually
strong Koreans (603 and 972 kHz) seemed to fade in and fade out in unison,
similar to the rare TA appearances here in late October. At one moment all
the NHK powerhouses (and 603/ 972 Koreans) would have decent audio, then they
would all dive together down into the noise. This was in contrast to
yesterday morning's session, when not only the powerhouses were strong and
steady, but stations like 1287-JOHR and 1503-JOUK had audio.

738-Taiwan was one of the stronger stations around 0945, but there was no
mainland Chinese co-channel like yesterday around 1100. Even though this
morning's weird propagation was different from recent sunrise DXing sessions,
it wasn't probably wasn't good enough to compensate for the inconvenient
hour. I guess the Asian TP season really is coming to an end, no matter when
you decide to DX :-)

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 29 Nov 2009

2009-11-29 Thread Nigel Pimblett
My last morning for a bit was definitely more interesting than most of
late. In actual fact the traditional TPs from coastal regions weren't
really much better than yesterday, but the morning was saved by the
reappearance of signals from central Asia.

This morning's audio between 1330 and 1500:

693 - Japan - barely there
747 - Japan
774 - Japan
828 - Japan -very weak
972 - Korea - best TP signal of the morning
1026 - Russian (from a site near Novosibirsk I believe)
1107 - bits of audio, most likely Urumqi
1134 - CNR1 alone - 2nd best TP signal of the morning
1314 - no audio, but noted someone well off frequency at 1314.10
1521 - CRI in Russian (Urumqi)
1548 - DW Sri Lanka (several peaks. each providing about 2 minutes of
audio)

1566 - good carrier, but only very faint traces of audio, presumably Korea
1575 - no audio, but did note a second carrier on 1574.94
1593 - traces of audio, presumably CNR1

Certainly not the best trans-polar morning of the season, but welcome
after the recent doldrums (and enough to cause me some regret about not
being in Alberta tomorrow morning!)

[IRCA] WSRY 1550 Test

2009-11-29 Thread Bruce Portzer
I tried for the test, not really expecting to hear it. My expectations
appear to be correct, as there wasn't any sign of WSRY.

1550 was mostly a battle between KFRC and KKAD, with KRFC mostly
winning, plus bits of KRPI in the background.
