[IRCA] QSL: China Radio Int'l 963 via Poro Finland
Well, I now have Europe QSLed from the Pacific NW. Yesterday, I received a very nice QSL (without location) for 963 Poro for a recent report sent to the CRI address, as opposed to the general Audience Response address for CNR. It came from Ying Lian of the English language section and had a CRI folder, QSL card, note card, sticker and paper cuts. So, it appears that CRI is still QSLing foreign language broadcasts, at least some of the time. Very pleased, to say the least. It is the only TA that I reported, so Europe is 100% replied for me! :) John Bryant Stillwater, OK WinRadio G313e + Ultralights Wellbrook Phased Array ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 12 Dec 2009
Yes, unlike recent days, there were TPs to be heard here this morning. Best day of the month I'd say.The regular major stations from Japan were all in, as well as China on 981, 1134, and 1521, and Korea on 972.Traces of DW Sri Lanka were audible earlier. There are audio traces on 1548 now (1525 UTC), but I suspect it's Sawa from Kuwait. Likewise 1593 appears to be VOA from Kuwait, rather than a TP. Farda on 1575 is doing quite well at times. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Recent QSLs
I sent out several reports in mid November and some nice responses have been arriving one by one. Here's the tally so far 518 - JAPAN, I sent surface mail reports to four Japan Coast Guard Regions regarding their respective Navtex broadcasts. Yokohama sent an e-mail thanking me for my report and apologizing for lack of QSLs, Moji sent a short polite non-QSL e-mail saying they won't confirm whether the report was correct or not, Naha sent a short e-mail QSL that was specific as to date and freq.. I'm still waiting for Otaru. 518 - GREENLAND, Aasiaat Radio sent QSL in about 2 weeks by surface mail for e-mail Navtex report. QSL was a folded sheet of paper with photo of tx site on one side and QSL message on the other. v/s Bo Mogensen, Trafikchef. No return address on envelope, but report was sent to t...@tele.gl which I found on their website http://www.tele.gl/dk/Kystradio/GMDSS/index.htm The site also lists a surface address Postboks 1002, 3900 Nuuk. 570 - CANADA, Whitehorse, CFWH sent friendly letter in about a month for surface report+CD. v/s John Boivin, Program Mgr. Also included medallion and a couple of small stickers. I now have Yukon 100% QSLed (both stations), not counting LPRTs. 640 - ALASKA, Bethel, KYUK sent friendly e-mail reply in about an hour. v/s Joe Siebert j...@kyuk.org said this was the first time in 20 years he's gotten a report from the lower 48. 729 - JAPAN, Nagoya, sent unsigned QSL card, stickers, and NHK World / Radio Japan schedule in about 3 weeks for surface report+CD 740 - NORTH DAKOTA, KVOX, Fargo, replied to e-mail+MP3 report in about a day. v/s bradwil...@radiofargomoorhead.com said they get lots of reports from Scandinavia, but very few from the US 1323 - GERMANY, Voice of Russia relay sent QSL card in about a month for report+MP3 sent to wo...@ruvr.ru Card was specific as to date/time/freq, but not site. [IRCA] Radio Farda
Radio Farda 1575 is still coming in here at 1639. They'd had a long discussion program in presumed Persian until 1630 and then switched to mid-east pop music //website. [IRCA] Algeria-549 LOUD on car radio
Friday Dec 11 2227-2237 UTC while in the parking lot of the MBTA (Subway) station in Quincy, MA and then driving south on Rt 3 in Braintree: Algeria-549 obliterating WDEV-550 VT with Arabic teletalk for a solid ten minutes. When the audio finally faded the 1 kHz het was brutal. I wonder if some of the 550 kHz East Coast US stations will receive complaints from listeners. What's with that annoying whistle on your station? And, if so, what the stations like WDDZ WDEV WSVA WAYR WGR will do about it. Complain to the FCC? Then what? I can't imagine President Obama calling the leader of Algeria with, Uh, gee, listen, could you have your radio people turn down the juice on that 549 transmitter? [IRCA] Report from Burnt River ON
Some moderate TA activity at Biurnt River. Not all that stable on the more interesting channels, and even 1134 Croatia was at times close to armchair and then without audio. I'm working 531 and 549. The latter had brief snippets of middle eastern music, a bit closer to pop than anything obviously religious. But 531 and 549 have never been there at the same time. At one point I was pretty certain I had one of two stations on 531 //to one of two stations on 252, which would suggest Algeria. But for 549 I'm not yet ready to rule out Saudi or Algeria. Have had Germany 765, Spain 531 855 621 (or Canary) + others; Saudi 1521 (also not able to //549 as signals everywhere have been unreliable); 747 probably Holland; UK 909, and probably Libya on 972.09 ... had brief very faint audio. 1670 Ottawa is obviously testing, as had mostly an open carrier. Interestingly, had French with Haitian accent underneath, audible even with Ottawa doing music. I've had a Boston-area pirate there before. 1630 had TISes from (I think) RI and MA. Have some checking to do. 1180 has a chirp/tweet kind of sound, as if it were a jammer. One of the two known Rebelde stations is in //5025 and with a good clear signal at times, all u/WHAM. For you VHF buffs, the Geminids meteor shower is underway. Bursts were unimpressive earlier but seem to be picking up as the evening progressive. Good signal with dance music and woman announcer. 1206 - France is an all-time new one in my log! [IRCA] St. Croix 1620
Tnx to a tip from John Bryant a while back, I was able to add my 9th country to the Texas ultralight log last night. Station was logged using a SRF59 w/ Select-a-Tenna. Tnx, John. Times/date in UTC. 1620, WDHP, Frederiksted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, 0210-0300, 12/12/09, back to back tropical vocals including a long song probably called Our Love Will Never Die. All the songs hrd seemed to have the same steady rhythm. Checked online streaming audio, and it was definitely them. Weak w/ QRM mostly from WTAW (College Station, TX) and WNRP (Gulf Breeze, FL). Also noteworthy last night was: 1610, XEAUCH, Chapingo, Mexico, 0307-0309*, 12/12/09, signing off with the XE National Anthem. Carrier remained on after that. The carrier has an AC hum in it, so that's not exactly helpful when trying to log the Canadian sta there! 73's! Re: [IRCA] Alberta TAs
The TAs didn't come in as early as yesterday, nor are they in as well, but still some pretty good signals this afternoon. All you heard were in here early this afternoon while the sun was still pretty high in the sky. Can't speak about yesterday as I never turned the radio until after dark, some today were putting in pretty awesome signals. Russia on 1089 was a minimum of S-9 with Moldova-999 and Croatia-1134 tied for a very close second. Unfortunately I was called away around 3.30 local and by the time I returned at 5.00 all that remained were carriers. Strangely UAE-1575 was down in the noise. Unfortunately nothing new. All heard on my EWE.
