Re: [IRCA] Brazil 17/12
Maurits, I have been picking either a Portuguese or Spanish language station on 1330kHz, using a Wellbrook 4 x K9AY Phased array pointing NW. A friend of mine says it is Probably WRCA Watertown MA. They have an ethnic programming mix, I usually hear them with French in the morning, but I think they do SS too. They ID with an EE ID at about 30 seconds past the hour, usually referencing themselves as WRCA a Beasley Broadcasting station, with a disclaimer that the following programme does not represent the views of the station. 73 Andrew Ikin Brecknockshire Wales - Original Message - From: mauritsvandriess...@skynet. mauritsvandriess...@skynet.be To: irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Friday, December 18, 2009 5:59 PM Subject: [IRCA] Brazil 17/12 Heart yesterday evening a brazil station on 1330khz at 2225utc .Anyone else heart this station also ?.I heart no ID !! tomatts splatter .So many thanks . 73, Maurits Perseus supper Kaz 275degrees Belgium ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Burnt River Transpolar Express - TP carriers
Weak-moderate carriers on 747 and 972, judging from hets .40 KHz away on those channels; much weaker ones on more than a dozen channels, when I woke up and checked at 0720. This on a south-north unterminated BOG, maybe 400 feet or so. First time I've ever checked with this set-up at this time. [IRCA] TP for 19 Dec from Victoria, BC
Things didn't seem awful this morning, though I suspect that signals may have been even better before I started listening at 1510UT, as signal strengths seemed to be dropping. Somewhat of an enhancement around 1525, then a slow fade out to 1600 and beyond. However, if I hadn't had the time to seriously listen, it would have been easy to do a couple of quick checks and say nothing to hear today pretty darn good audio, at least briefly (all of it understandable by a native speaker) 639 CNR-1 //5030 at 1515UT reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 774 JOUB with maybe occasional spurts into the top tier of signals 828 JOBB at 1531UT, but there was a second station there also 972 likely HLCA 1575 seemed to be VoA fading up to this level by 1516 not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker 567 JOIK //594 at 1527 603 SAH and 2 stations at 1519, one w/light instrumental mx and possible KK talk by woman 675 likely Vietnam? this seems well modulated, as carrier isn't always strong 747 JOIB 873 JOGB //774 at 1517 936 CC talk by woman at 1518 Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 558 possible mix of two stations at 1526, hard to tell if anything //603 702 seemed //774, so NHK-2 pair 855 N. Korea //2850 918 talking in the murk 945 seemed //5030, so CNR-1 1134 seemed //5030, so CNR-1 1188 guessing it was //594?? Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 864, 1566; the latter actually delivered very murky audio (woman talking) for a moment or two at 1735UT, after their pattern change for the Russian program. best wishes, Nick * Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 19 Dec 2009
A bit of a mixed bag here this morning. The Trans-Pacfics were a bit better than average for December, but nothing really came up to a decent level until after 1500. Wound up hearing audio from Japan on 747 and 774, Korea on 972 and 1134, and China on 981. The Trans-Polars weren't up to much, with the exception of the Russian on 1026, which had a nice signal at 1500. Farda, though not overly strong, was dominating 1575, and the CRI stations on 1521 and 1422 put in brief and rather uninspiring appearances. The Farda carrier has never gone away, and it's been joined by several other carriers at the top end of the dial now (just past 1930). 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] Supercharging the Tecsun PL-380- A 7.5 Loopstick Transplant
Hello All, The new Tecsun PL-380 DSP radio is the latest refinement in high performance pocket radios from China, offering very effective 1 kHz DSP selectivity for AM-DXers, as well as freedom from the soft mute issue troubling previous DSP models. With superior FM and SW capabilities, this new Ultralight model has a lot to offer for its $46 (plus shipping) price. The full PL-380 review was being completed here to detail this model's impressive capabilities, but there was a slight detour due to an unexpected delay. In checking the PL-380's stock loopstick, it was discovered that the ferrite bar was small and poorly designed, and that the loopstick coil had a serious inductance mismatch with the 4734 DSP chip, resulting in less-than-optimum AM sensitivity. For a dedicated TP-chaser demanding extreme AM sensitivity to match this models's outstanding AM selectivity, this was simply an unacceptable situation-- so everything was dropped to design an effective 7.5 loopstick transplant, and install it in the PL-380. An 81-turn Slider coil was used to find the optimum AM inductance match with the PL-380's 4734 DSP chip, then a new 81-turn fixed coil of 40/44 Litz wire was wound on a 7.5 Amidon Type 61 ferrite bar, with inductance matching the 554 uh value for optimal AM sensitivity. The new loopstick was soldered into the PL-380's circuitry, providing an average 20 dBu boost in signal strength on all AM frequencies (as well as a massive increase in LW sensitivity). It was then mounted on a custom plastic frame attached to the PL-380's top front cabinet section, and was tested on both AM and LW for weak-signal performance. The modified radio has been found slightly superior in transoceanic DXing performance to any of the previously modified ULR radios, including the E100 Slider models. Both the AM and LW bands received a tremendous sensitivity boost because of the loopstick transplant, opening up a new world of weak-signal performance on both bands. The Microsoft Word article describing this 7.5 loopstick transplant procedure has just been completed, and is suitable as a guide for experienced hobbyists to complete this PL-380 transformation. It is available currently at _http://www.dxer.ca/file-area/cat_view/87-ultra-light-radio-files-area/95-ulr-radio-modifications_ (http://www.dxer.ca/file-area/cat_view/87-ultra-light-radio-files-area/95-ulr-radio-modifications) on DXer.Ca (the first option on the list), in the Yahoo Ultralightdx file section (Alignment and Modifications section, last option on the list), and also directly at the following link: _http://www.mediafire.com/?vnjhmkmazxx_ (http://www.mediafire.com/?vnjhmkmazxx) The delay in completing the full PL-380 review is regretted, but hopefully this new loopstick design will be of interest to those DXers demanding maximum AM sensitivity to match the PL-380's razor-sharp selectivity. With this effective combination, the new PL-380 can certainly fulfill its potential as a legendary 9 kHz-split DX chaser. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA) ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

I've checked this out and it's legitimate. I told her they can use the photo if they want. This is the one she's talking about. Re: [IRCA] Late night on 860
Bill, CFPR 860 is a powerhouse here on the OR coast nights. They pretty much dominate the channel to the North. 10 KW ND does well. They used to be heard days before KPAM signed on years ago. According to the CFPR CE from several years back, CFPR has never dropped power to 1 KW at night. Even though some listed them as so. They do have 1 KW as an aux. tx, but they have always been 10 KW ND Day/Night. The 1 sec delay may be from the signal coming from the satellite, since all of the relays are in sync. In comparing NW 98 via ANIK F1 and direct on 980, there is a 1 sec. delay. CBXQ 540 CBC 40w on the West Coast of Vancouver Island is groundwave here on the OR Coast. Has been the 40 years it has been on 540. Bill Block and I drove to CA in June 1970. we carried the LPRT 540 during the day to the OR/CA border, especially if we were right along the coast. It would fade, as we dropped inland in places though. They are generally about S5 on the R8 days. QRMed at night by CBK though. I have several of the LPRTs QSL'd from BC through the years, but some ran more than the 40w. 540-CBXQ-40W 990-CBKN-40W 1070-CBUU-40W 1260-CBRU-250W 1260-CBPU-50W (Weather Radio) 1270-CBRU-400W 1350-CBKY-400W 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] WIZR-AM 930 smoking on day power
WIZR-930 Johnstown NY still on and has been on day power at night all week. Playing a mix of Hot AC and Christmas music. Station is IDing as 'B 95 point 5. [IRCA] Radio Farda 1575
Greetings, About the only audio I could pullout so far is Radio Farda 1575, at S3-4 on peaks on the SPR4. Even strong enough to play the audio over the phone to Dave Williams at 0315 UTC. A few other hets, 1269, 1431, etc, and only a slight het on LW tonight for Iceland-189. [IRCA] Fwd: [mwcircle] QSLs: A worrying comment
from Steve Whitt on the Medium Wave Circle list: I guess many of us find webstreams helpful in identifying DX signals we are listen to, but sadly other people are finding the webstreams beneficial for other less ethical purposes I spotted the following in Distance magazine. I have received your QSL requests, and find them valid. Probably 9 out of 10 QSL requests these days are bogus, and I havent figured out how to handle it yet. A large number of the audio clips I get are our web stream audio, with static and noise dubbed over. When I find an easy way of verifying the audio source, I will resume replying to QSLs, sorry you are stuck in the middle. CBXQ-540.I remember they were in nightly 1967-69 when I dxed from Sacramento. Darned good signal too. Only competition was CBK at the time.
