heard when I've been in Newfoundland. Suprising that I have not heard this

No sign of it here, just usual CBEF.

There are no commercial 540s anywhere in Canada, which leads me to
suspect some sort of receiver-induced intermod product, or maybe a spur
from the 1050 transmitter itself?

(Oh, and the waste of programming on 1050 Toronto is actually "CP24,"
which used to stand for "CITY Pulse" when the cable channel was owned by
CITY-TV.)

Well over the last two nights, I did some "drive by DX'ing," i.e. when
walking about the house, doing odds and ends, I would briefly pick up
the E-100 and listen. I added 1420 Michigan City, IN and 1370 Toledo,
OH in a ombined total effort of about 45 seconds. Both are common at
LSS but hadn't logged them yet on a ULR. Total now at 201 and I will
apply for the 200 stations heard award. I have a few other to add,
including a new Indiana DOT TIS on 1610 (it's been reactivated). There
may even be another one on 530, under the one by my house.

[IRCA] CIBQ-1340 Brooks AB applied to CRTC to move to FM (105.7, 6.6 kW)

2009-12-23 Thread Deane McIntyre
CIBQ-1340 Brooks AB has applied to the CRTC to move to FM (105.7 MHz,
6.6 lW,

45.6 meters)

Once they go, the only AM stations left in southern Alberta will be
those that serve

the Calgary market. The signal of CIBQ has degraded considerably as
heard in Calgary over

the past several years (Brooks is about 90 miles/150 km SW of Calgary)

15. Brooks, Alberta
Application No. 2009-1220-6

Application by Newcap Inc. for a broadcasting licence to operate an
English-Language

commercial FM radio programming undertaking to replace its existing
AM radio station CIBQ Brooks.

The new station would operate on frequency 105.7 MHz (channel 289B1)
with an average

effective radiated power (ERP) of 6,600 watts (maximum ERP of 14,000
watts with an effective

height of antenna above average terrain of 45.6 metres).

The applicant proposes to maintain its current country music format.

The applicant requests permission to simulcast the programming of the
new FM station on

CIBQ for a period of three months from the date of implementation of
the new station.

The applicant also requests, pursuant to sections 9(1)(e) and 24(1)
of the Broadcasting Act,

Re: [IRCA] Slinky EWEs vs Regular Wire

2009-12-23 Thread HASCALL, DAVID CIV DFAS
Guy, Kaz and Kevin - Thanks for the replies. Kevin good to know about
the spiral loop. Do you have pictures to upload to dxer.ca? Would love
to see it. I had always believed that myth about a compressed slinky
simulating a much longer wire but the turns per foot thing makes sense.
KAZ told us that a few years ago but David Hamilton swears by his.

KAZ - Mike B. from the WTFDA also said that about slinky's, they are
toys.

Dave in Indy
