[IRCA] 1040 wandering het again

2010-01-31 Thread Fred Schroyer
Thanks to folks who responded to my recent post about this odd, drifting
het. Several suggested the 10w TIS in Hanover, MD, but that is 200 miles
away, so it's unlikely to generate the weak het I hear in SW PA at midday.
It's much stronger @ night, beating against WHO -- in fact, at 2100 EST
toniuhgt, it's just plain loud, and DFs to NW/SE of here. What about DXers
in PA, MD, OH, WV -- can any of you hear it? Can you DF? I'm really curious
to discover who/what this might be. Thanks--

[IRCA] TP for 31 Jan from Victoria, BC

2010-01-31 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Slept in this morning, didn't start listening until 1525 UT, and it might have
been a mistakethere was some life in the upper band, with hints also in the
lower band. Many of the high powered regulars were missing or very poor (I'm
not sure when NHK2 signed off today for example; there was very little activity
on 747 and 774, and none on 828, so they might have signed off at 1500UT, yet
at 1600UT on 1602 I heard what sounded like NHK pips and a few bars at the
anthem, but pretty far in the murk by then, and certainly the low band was gone
by then)

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

none

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK
1242 JOLF likely
1422 JORF JJ talk by man
1503 JOUK //594 and usually stronger

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

603 perhaps HLSA, no // on 558
1557 mx at 1535UT, and deep voiced man in EE at 1601 UT, so Taiwan
1386 CC talk, seemed //1593 so CNR-1
1566 HLAZ, big carrer

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

558 occasional mx
567 JOIK //594
666 JOBK //1503
747 JOIB seemed //774, but both quite weak, and just a man talking; could be
mistaken
774 JOUB?
1224 //594 w/ woman talking, so JOJK; new here
1314 seemed like JJ inflected talk, so JOUF?
1332 mx; most likely Japan
1512 NHK2? //1602 at several points, maybe 774 also, but a man talking around
the noise level isn't much to hang your hat on.
1593 possibly CNR-1?  not sure if //6125 which was much weaker than usual;
something else on 1593 also, maybe NHK2?
1602 NHK2 synchros? seemed //1512 and 774 at various times

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

1269, 1287

best wishes,

Nick

2010-01-31 Thread Dennis Gibson
At 9:50 AM Sunday Pacific time XEPE was not //XEPRS-1090. It was running
"Meet the Press". TOH ID at 10:00 was "San Diego's 1700" then the call
letters and city of license in Spanish. After that they changed to //XEPRS.
In April of 2008 I took a couple of photos of the XEPRS transmitter site:

It looks like XEPE-1700 has changed its format to Sporting News Radio as it
was heard this morning with "XX-1090".
