Jim, I'd say you have Caceres Spain...

My log from Newfoundland this past fall:

1107 SPAIN Caceres, RNE5 – 0207 – Radio Nacional d’Espana ID off-frequency on
1107.11 or so. (.122 per Jean Burnell, who says he also measured it a few
months earlier there, on May 1/09, at 1107.124. Possible local ID during a RNE
break, but missed taping this. A second Spanish synchro directly on 1107 (a
relog) settles the matter for me. At 0215. [I intended to check an online list
of MW offsets, out of curiosity, but have yet to do this].

Barry in Ottawa reports 5 KW Spain synchro under BBC on 693.

[IRCA] License of CHEV-1610 Toronto ON Renewed by CRTC

2010-03-31 Thread Deane McIntyre
This is the 99 watt silent station that on paper just will not go
away. The License of
CHEV-1610 Toronto has been renewed to the end of July of this year.
Of course 1610 has been used
in Toronto by CHHA for some time, and CHEV not even appear in the
current Industry Canada database.

At least the CRTC is aware that CHEV has to find a new frequency.

BAF Audio Visual Inc.
Toronto, Ontario

Administrative renewal

1.

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the low-power AM
radio programming
undertaking CHEV Toronto from 1 April 2010 to 31 July 2010. The
licence will be subject

to the terms and conditions in effect under the current licence.
2.
If the licensee has not filed an application for a new frequency by
17 May 2010,

the Commission may not renew the licence further.

radio if you like something you hear. He was up in his bedroom at his

[IRCA] TP for 31 Mar from Victoria, BC

2010-03-31 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Time was at a premium this morning, so only listened for a few minutes after
1325UT. Either the low band had peaked earlier, or it was just a poor morning
overall, but things weren't too lively, even though a few secondary channels
were showing weak audio.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

1566 HLAZ

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

972 HLCA
1287 JOHR w/JJ talk at 1328; odd to have the NHK2 big guns weaker than this

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

747 JOIB
774 JOUB
828 JOBB
1503 JOUK //567

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

567 JOIK //1503; 594 not to be found this morning
1053 jammer and strong carrier
1134 not //972 or 4460, so most likely JOQR
1242
1377 seemed //4460 so CNR-1
1386 NHK2 //828
1476 woman talking; possibly China. Still trying to track this one down

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

1251, 1269, 1593

2010-03-31 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

In general the Asian TP's lost some of their audio strength compared with
yesterday, but there were several interesting signals, including one UnID
mystery.

Again DXing from 1325-1350 in the back yard (thankfully dry this time), the
high band superstations like 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA had fairly good
audio, but not like on great mornings. The overachieving 1575-AFN station was
nowhere to be heard. 1053 kHz had a weak mix of two stations at 1330 (one of
which was apparently JOAR), and 1134 kHz had a stronger mix of JOQR and the
KBS Korean for most of the listening session. 1503-JOUK had fair audio
around 1345, but the 1476 kHz carrier (almost in audio, yesterday) was very ane
mic this morning here.

The star of the morning was probably 1377-CNR1, which dominated the
frequency at a healthy level for most of the morning. At around 1333 (while
playing electronic instrumental music) the Chinese station had a weak
co-channel
TP on the frequency with apparent Korean language, although the co-channel
was only around for about a minute, and there was no real chance to check
any parallels. The weak co-channel can be heard in the beginning of this
recording at 1333, mixing with the Chinese station's instrumental music (but
neither station's signal was earth-shaking at the time)

 .

As usual this week the TP signals dived in unison around the 1400 TOH, with
bright sunlight cutting short the mediocre Puyallup version of sunrise
enhancement. But here in late March, it's probably best to be thankful for
what TP's we still have, especially in this modest location.

[IRCA] OT: BPL

2010-03-31 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Perhaps not exactly on topic, but of concern to all of us who listen to radio.
I was at my local Costco the other day, killing some time before my wife was
finished. I noted a home internet package, using your own electrical wiring to
distribute internet. Seems to me to be a home version of the dreaded BPL which
doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Anyway, the packaging claimed that it
passed Part 15 FCC Guidelines, but upon further investigation, the box clearly
states that it uses "2 to 28 MHz". Ouch!!! Even a few milliwatts of power
within a few homes around will be more than enough, I would think, to spoil my
attempts at DXing. I sure hope they sell too many, as most people these days
buy a good wireless router for the same or less than the cost of this beast. I
hope they sell none, and ship them all back to wherever they were made! Anyone
out there have the nerve to try it themselves? Comments? .Walt Salmaniw,

Has anyone noticed the "warbler" on 730Kc? It's been there for the past 5 days
and has been quite strong.

The Wobbler on 730 has been around, or should I say back, for at
least a couple months, though how well it gets out no doubt varies.

I have it very strong tonight with extreme excursions in frequency,
which should be good for hearing beyond the "local" area.

Tune USB 729.5 kHz to hear it easier.
