He will, and he is :)

KCBC's move was actually a side effect of a move on the FM band. The 96.7
station that had been licensed to Manteca (KMRQ, if memory serves) figured
out that it could significantly improve its signal over Modesto if it moved
its transmitter site. But moving its transmitter site meant it would no
longer put a city-grade signal over Manteca, so it needed a new city of
license. But 96.7 was also the only station licensed to Manteca, so it
couldn't move without replacing that first local service in Manteca.

That's where KCBC came in. With a bit of a power tweak, it could change
city of license from Riverbank to Manteca, and Riverbank was a city of
license that worked for 96.7's new transmitter site, so the swap was made,
KCBC became Manteca and 96.7 became Riverbank.

In my experience dxing from Northern California 1957-2010 I have found
summer sunset dx, especially in June to be almost useless. I think I
only have a handful of decent summertime sunset catches to show. I
remember barely pulling in Eugene on 1050 from Sacramento once or twice
but not much else. I was browsing through my vacation catches 1979-1984
from NW Iowa, where a lot of my listening was at sunset. Amazingly I
was able to log these stations between 2000-2400 in June 1984. Sunset
time at Galva was 2100..

Very interesting Kaz! I'll have to go back over my California logs to
see if I know what I'm talking about. My memory tells me that everytime
I tried at sunset in June July and sky wave signals didn't even start
coming in until almost 2030 which was the time No. Calif. dropped
power. I remember trying for stuff to the north with little luck.
Thanks for checking in.

My personal experiance has been that the graveyard channels seem to be best
in the summer months than durig winter. The majority of all my garveyard

logs heard while living in Texas, during the 40's to the early 60's.

Winter seems to be best for TA's.

Re: [IRCA] [ABDX] Sunset DX during June

Very interesting Kaz! I'll have to go back over my California logs to see if
I know what I'm talking about. My memory tells me that everytime I tried at
sunset in June July and sky wave signals didn't even start coming in until
almost 2030 which was the time No. Calif. dropped power.

The DX gods may not be kind to the San Francisco DXer, Don. Although I don't
do much domestic DX, the first time I heard Whitehorse on 570 was in June, and
it does seem that northerly stations might have a bit of an edge down here near
the US border, at least once sunset finally arrives there.

[IRCA] Re IRCA 72-28-6 / Sunset DX in June

2010-04-14 Thread bill kral
Pacific northwest stations would be on day time power well past so-Cal sunset
since sunset in OR,Wa, and BC is much later because the terminator runs up
towards the east in the summer time rather than paralleling the coastline which
it does in winter. Bill in BC
