[IRCA] TA on west coast; morning TPs also

2010-07-01 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Carrier heard on 1566.000 at 0420UT 1 July on Cortes Island, barely local
sunset...

Also weak het on 1574.999, but that was the only other audible carrier. Don't
have any reasonable listing for this channel however, so not sure what's going
on there.

Both this and 1566 were quite smeared, so hard to get an exact frequency. 1575
disappeared sometime earlier, but 1566 held in again until just after Parkou's
0532's sunrise.

At dawn, the best audio was from 1475; maybe half a dozen other channels had
unreadable audio, though 1116 faded up long enough for a "4BC" mention. Quite
a spread of locations, as 1566 and 1287 were heard from Asia, but weak audio
presumably from down under was noted on 1701, 1611 and 1503 as well. The low
band was quite dead.

best wishes,

Nick

A poor morning this morning here on Haida Gwaii. Awoke at 04:30 local/11:30
UTC to hear only weak audio from the DU crowd. Later 1566 Korea was decent
at 8-9 level. Didn't notice anyone on the bottom half of the band.
Instead, I spent an enjoyable hour listening to Radio Symban booming in on
2368.5 from Sydney. I noticed 1475 as well, Nick. 1701 was just there
tooWalt

2010-07-01 Thread Ira Elbert New III

I heard something that sounded like WABL on 850 this evening around 2045.
It had a decent signal with classic country. There's a WKVL, but it's listed as
Talk. Did I mishear something or has someone changed formats?

WKVL did change formats under its local owner and went classic country..saw

WABL is on 1570 in Amite, LA, about an hour north of New Orleans.

Re: [IRCA] 850 kHz Station

2010-07-01 Thread amdxmail

That's WKVL, Bert. They're now Classic Country. WGAP-1400, WKVL-850 (along
with simulcaster WLOD-1140) and WKTI-1040 have all flipped to that format in
recent months. With 1040 having dumped Adult Standards, that format is now
gone from all three East Tennessee markets (Chattanooga, Knoxville and Johnson
City/Bristol/Kingsport). Ten years ago, you could hear THREE different Adult
Standards satellite feeds on three Knoxpatch daytimers, 670, 1040 and 1180. Is
this format becoming commercially extinct at a comparable speed in other
markets? I remember the instrumental/beautiful/Muzak version of it was fast
disappearing from FM about 20 years ago. Are the vocals now going the same
route?
