[IRCA] IRCA Convention reminder
It is getting close to the one month deadline to get reservations at the Inn at Seaside, to be guaranteed the convention rate. If you haven't done it, you only have a day or two, as the convention is almost a month away. Any questions, please let me know. Our usual radio station tours, our banquet, and auction, along with a trip down the coast to Tillamook is planned on Sunday. Don't miss it. [IRCA] Attention TP DXers: Old AM Signal returning!
I just got word that V6AI at 1491kHz from Colonia on the island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia will be back on the air with 10,000 Watts of non directional power as soon as Tuesday but no later then a week from today. The station has been operating as 500 Watt FM only KUTE 88.1 since the AM transmitter broke down in January 2009 leaving residents of outer islands without radio service. If anyone here's the new AM signal and wants a QSL or some kind of letter confirming the reception, I'm sure V6AI will be happy to reply... they are very nice folks over there and LOVE hearing from listeners overseas! Re: [IRCA] TP's for 08/22/10
Hi Derek, Thanks for your comments, and I'm pretty sure that neither Guy or I consider ourselves anything close to GODX :-) The Oregon coast DU propagation seemed very strong during the past two recent trips to Lincoln City, and I've often wondered about why the same South Pacific propagation wouldn't be even stronger farther south (around where you live in California). My guess is that in the absence of local QRM it would be, but the heavy concentration of domestic splatter along the California coast seems to make it very tough for you guys to hear the really weak South Pacific DX. Even in NW Oregon along the beach, the splatter level from California pests (like 640 and 740) was dramatically increased from the level typical at Grayland, WA, so that there was little or no silent period when these pests would fade out after local sunrise. Many of these California pests were daytimers in Oregon, and they were impossible to null out during the DU-DXing (with my simple loops always aimed to the SW). 73, Gary In a message dated 8/23/2010 9:41:23 A.M.
