[IRCA] Oklahoma TP's 10/22/10 - or lack thereof

2010-10-23 Thread Richard Allen
Based on yesterday's loggings I was expecting better this morning. Oh, was I
disappointed.
Between 1211 and 1250 UTC, I heard carriers with no audio on 558, 702, 774,
792, 828, and possibly 1566. Strongest signal was on 702 kHz with only slight
KHSE 700 slop. There was no signal enhancement sunrise. Receiver: Modifiied
Tecsun PL-310 with 7.5-inch loopstick.

I hope reception was better at your QTH and you have a good weekend.

[IRCA] Arizona TP's for 10-23-10

2010-10-23 Thread Bill Block

Listened from 1310-1345 utc and conditions was very poor with audio on 594 and
774. The only thing that I heard on 594 was a little music at 1335 utc so not
sure who that was. JOUB-774 was heard at 1340 utc and it was just above the
noise level.

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 23 Oct 2010

2010-10-23 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Well, regrettably, my expectations from last night were fully realized
this morning. The only Asian signal heard was Korea on 1566, and that
was about an hour before sunrise, and was long gone by sunrise. A bit
unusual, as I don't think I've ever had a morning where Heard a few low
band Aussies after that (594, 612, 702, 738, 774), but none, except
maybe 738, ever approached a listenable level.

[IRCA] WGBW DX Test - QSL

2010-10-23 Thread amdxer

Received Verification Letter in mail today for WGBW 1590 DX test
last Satudray.  This is a short turn around time, mailed
my report with CD on Tuesday, reply back on Saturday!

In
my reception report I mentioned hearing a dog barking
type sound, perhaps a Disney song or some type of sound effect at
00:04CDT.  Mark Heller said this was not part of his test and
that someone else also reported hearing similar dog
barking sounds at the same time.  All my other details
for ID, bugle songs and the test tones matched.

Thanks to
all who helped with this DX Test.

[IRCA] Early Morning scan on 1130 ( my first)

2010-10-23 Thread bill kral
10/ 23 /10 Victoria BC . Scan on 1130 from 06:30 PDT to 09:30 PDT: Waiting for
bus from Victoria to Nanaimo, tuned to 1130 and found an EE female voice under
fluctuating CKWX but could not get clear speech thru CK's rapid news clips and
so no ID clues. I assumed this was not KPWX and signl faded before 07:30 at
which time my bus was scheduled to leave so after getting on bus, resumed scan
and found KP in with strong Mex music as daylight was just starting. As bus
moved and travelled north, I had receiver facing east with CK partly
nulled, letting KP win out over CK.Leaving city and travelling west CK was over
KP until entering a low level pass flanked by high hills which almost killed CK
so KP was in full blast as daylight had set in.KP stuck around until CK
returned
when bus went up to a higher level on highway heading northwest. On east west
stretches of road WX gave way to KP again until direction changed to north and
slowly CK gained strength as we got closer to Vancouver.KP was still audible
under CK until a stop in Duncan BC where it disappeared when my direction could
not null CK anymore.Mean while one step down on 1120 KPNW still had a decent
signal at end of scan and trip in Nanaimo at 09:30 PDT and was the last of the
Oregonians to go after 860, 750, 1080 and 1190. Bill in BC

[IRCA] MW DX from Enid OK, October 23, 2010

2010-10-23 Thread Glenn Hauser
All times and dates strictly UT. MW log editors are welcome to excerpt items,
reformat and change to favorite timezone if necessary. Rx: mostly DX-398 with
internal antenna only; some caradio as specified; above 2 MHz on FRG-7 with
110-foot east-west longwire.

** JAPAN [and non]. MW TP carrier search Oct 23: in USB mode on the DX-398,
upward 1208-1240 UT: 594, 747 and 774; LSB mode downward at 1210-1213, snagged
only 828 and 774; back to MEXICO on 10-kHz channels (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. Sunrise DX Oct 23 on the DX-398 with internal antenna only:

550, Oct 23 at 1214, 6:14 TC, rooster, Cuauhtémoc promo for something at 300
pesos, PSAs, from XEPL, Chihuahua, a regular.

610, Oct 23 at 1232 from the SW, news of Caborca and Guasave, Sinaloa, with
music stingers in between items, with single word ``Altavoz`` = loudspeaker,
the day`s upcoming local events. So XEGS, Guasave.

660, Oct 23 at 1219, ads for celular, sounded like Barbacoa Cacoy, Morelos,
probably street rather than state; sábado 23 de octubre, MW with missing or
wanted person info. 1221 ad for exterminator (of bugs), phone 472-09-33,
another ad to phone 472-43-63? ``Buenos días . . . se espera 11 grados,`` into
romantic music. Nothing much googlehits except the phone number and
exterminador leading to Ciudad Delicias, Chihuahua, whence XEACB transmits on
660.

680, Oct 23 at 1216, promo Cadena Cinco news, 1217 ad for something in Colonia
del Bosque; loops SW, but too much CCI. Unfortunately, that Colonia is too
generic, as they are all over Mexico. Cinco may refer to Televisa network 5
XHGC, so which station on 680 is in Grupo W? Here`s the list, showing 680 =
Chihuahua:
http://www.wradio.com.mx/emisoras.aspx
There is a Colonia del Bosque not in Chihuahua city, but 47 km down the highway
at Meoqui. Pretty good circumstantial evidence, maybe not quite enough to be
positive it`s XEFO; but I`m not counting.

700, Oct 23 at 1229, open carrier from the southwest, with some crackles maybe
from transmitter, past 1230, so I move on, but rechecked at 1243, now Spanish
talk from the WSW, phone 52-3-13-13. That clix as the number of a psychologist
in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua, i.e. XEGD, and no hits for the only other
likely possibility, Etchojoa, Sonora. At 1245 gives phone number again twice (I
also discover that my Indigo watch light transmits on this frequency! O for the
good ole days of clean, pure radium dials.)

710, Oct 23 at 1235, TC for 25:7, ``La Ranchera de Cuauhtémoc`` singing ID,
24:7 TC, karaoke ad. XEDP.

870, Oct 23 at 1238, TCs for 6:38, XETAR ID, local Guachochi announcements
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3160, Oct 23 at 1156 can make out some gospel music under T-storm
noise, so WPJK x 2 is still harmonicizing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 720, another log of KDWN Las Vegas NV cutting to non-direxional day
pattern one hour earlier than authorized, and going from zero to sufficient
signal here on the way to Chicago: Saturday Oct 23 at 1244:40 UT, during
infomercial by a Dr. Pincus for his ``Omega-Krill`` with an 800 number. Yeah,
cut out the middlefish and eat krill ourselves! That makes sense? More
entertaining than far-right Angle-pusher Heidi Harris on weekdays (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 940+, every morning during Mexican SRS sessions, I hear a lo het
on the hi side of this frequency, looping E/W so can`t be XEQ in the DF which
is considerably off-channel. What I get may be local (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST) ###

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-23

2010-10-23 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

Despite the poor TP results reported by Richard, Bill and Nigel,
there were some vibrant Asian signals here this morning, but the propagation
certainly didn't favor the second-tier TP's. Almost all of the healthy
signals were from the big guns, which enjoyed a decent sunrise enhancement
after 1400. The strange propagation provided a freakish signal boost to
594-JOAK (which once again reached a near-legendary level, like a week ago),
plus
smaller boosts to 585-JOPG and 747-JOIB. These stations' signals were
better than yesterday's levels, but the second-tier TP's like 756-CNR1 and
1035-CNR1 did not benefit from the sunrise enhancement, and never did reach
yesterday's levels. Several Chinese like 738-Taiwan and 936-Anhui had a
moderate boost, and 639-CNR1 did manage to come out of the noise around 1430,
as
did 648-VOR and 657-Pyongyang.
The overall results were less than impressive, although in relation
to the inland DXers' mediocre TP reports, it's probably best to be thankful.
It's suitable to term the morning's results as low average, with a few
freakish signals like 594-JOAK running against the downward trend.

The following were heard on a modified C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5
loopstick), inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in
the rainy back yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30 loopstick) was used as an SSB
spotting receiver:

558 HLQH Daegu, S. Korea Fair Korean speech at 1425 // 603
585 JOPG Kushiro, Japan Fair-good Japanese YL conversation
at 1406, // 594 (with smaller sunrise enhancement boost)
594  JOAK  Tokyo, Japan  Booming Japanese YL talk at  1405;
freakishly strong for overall mediocre TP propagation

603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea Good Korean speech 1426 // 558
639 CNR1 China Synchros (presumed) Threshold audio at 1430
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Weak w/ JJ out of noise at 1428
657 Pyongyang BS, N. Korea Tirades thankfully weak at 1434
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan Fair Japanese music at 1355, // 594
 (see NHK1 programming note below)
738 BEL2 Penhu, Taiwan Fair-good Chinese talk program 1418
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Good Japanese talk around 1402
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Almost buried in KTTH splatter 1415
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Weaker than other NHK2 big guns 1413
936 Anhui, China Poor-fair foreign music around 1419
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Good Korean speech (in slop) at
 1433; strongest Korean of morning
_http://www.mediafire.com/?8e66a351ln68x67_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?8e66a351ln68x67)
1044 CRI Jiangsu, China Fair Japanese program in and out 1357
1134 KBS3 Hwaseong, S. Korea Fair Korean speech at 1408
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Poor-fair Japanese program 1345

The normally talk-oriented NHK1 stations (594-JOAK, 666-JOBK, 891-JOHK,
1503-JOUK etc.) have a Japanese music program around 1330 UTC on Saturday
night (on our Saturday morning). This recording of Japanese music was made on
594-JOAK at 1355 today _http://www.mediafire.com/?zo8abfmlsv8hdr4_

[IRCA] 828 MW Netherlands/ atmospheric conditions

2010-10-23 Thread bill kral
1.Dutch Website (All Legal Broadcasters in the Netherlands-titled in Dutch)
reports that as of 10 -23-10 the frequency 828 MW has changed formats to old
rock/pop and has resumed the handle and program format of the previous 1008 Khz
station called Radio 10
Gold. 2.On
10-10-10 (coincidence?) a report was issued on atmospheric high pressure
conditions around Western Europe causing unusual skip of distant radio signals
from several countries to be reported in Holland. It does not specify if on AM
or FM but does mention a reception report of a TV signal from the Faroeh
Islands
in the Atlantic. I must assume it was FM to go with the TV report but with the
many (about 500) FM Transmitters in an area 2/3 the size of Vancouver
Island, there isn't much open FM frequency for incoming skip to be received. If
the skip was on AM then it has a strange parallel to the 1130 weather
phenomenon
which occured here in south west BC. LOL . Bill in BC
