A mediocre morning at best. Asiatic TP's practically died out at 1400Z, only to stage a modest comeback with dawn enhancement on the 1425Z sampling. LWBC Russians were best at 1259Z and went downhill from there. No Alaskans noted this morning.. Times sampled: 1259Z, 1335Z, 1359Z, 1425Z for 1 to 3 minutes each using Perseus. [IRCA] TP for 26 Oct from Victoria, BC
Well, things were sort of OK at my first check at 1300UT this morning, but 1340 was a wipe out, and 1410UT, not much bettermaybe something happened later, but I was on my way to work by then. So almost everything I describe below was heard at 1300... pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): none reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 594 JOAK 747 JOIB 774 JOUB not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker 828 JOBB 972 HLCA 1566 HLAZ Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 279 presumed R. Rossii 567 JOIK //594 864 unID; Japanese??? 1017 unID, didn't seem //NHK2 1044 possibly CRI?? Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 639 and 738 after 1400UT best wishes, Nick * Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Newfoundland Ultralight Trans-Atlantics Report Oct 27
Hello To All, A Very interesting and rewarding DX Session this evening as a return trip was made to Ladie's Lookout on Signal Hill. Braving the elements at 5 Degrees Celcius and later on 3 Degrees, the second DX session this week began from high above the Atlantic Ocean at around 19:55 UTC until 21:05 UTC. Conditions seemed very good throughout the session and once again many stations were heard. The Spanish stations seemed to dominate in numbers however most of the stations listed on the logs had remarkable strength and were readable at so called armchair length. A couple of surprises awaited as the 702 outlet from Monaco was a new station as well as a new country for the ULR log. The biggest surprise occured at 20:15 UTC while monitoring 1566 khz a signal rose up while Benin in French was already occupying the channel. For a brief couple of moments it was by itself all alone with string type music and high pitched vocal singing, not chanting, no talk was heard before or after and it soon subsided again. Could this be the Nagpur Relay in India , looks likely but I will leave it for the expert Dxer's out there to ponder over. No recording available All in all it was an enjoyable DX session once again 621 khz – CANARY ISLANDS – R. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-27
Hello All, A lackluster pattern of anemic TP signals continued for yet another day, with most Asiatic stations struggling to get out of the noise. An early band check from 1300-1330 revealed little of interest, except for a 1575-VOA signal that was stronger than usual (for this mediocre season, that is). Several "big guns" (594, 738, 747, 828 and 1134) also managed fair audio during this period, but these all dived down in the noise from 1345-1430, when it seemed like the "sunrise enhancement" wouldn't enhance much of anything. Only 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA had any audio at all during this period, and it was nothing to shout about. Finally 594-JOAK and 738-BEL2 rose up out of the noise around 1445 with fair-good signals (just before the band collapsed), to bring a somewhat positive end to a mediocre session. Hopefully this morning's anemic signals are related to the unusual solar activity, and not an indication that the Fall TP Season is falling out early. The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5" loopstick), inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB spotting receiver: 594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair-good music break during Japanese interview session at 1445 _http://www.mediafire.com/?d6awacz583q13dh_ (http://www.mediafire.com/?d6awacz583q13dh) 738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Fair Chinese male speech during talk program at 1443 747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Fair Japanese speech around 1320 in KXL splatter; dropped out at 1345 828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Poor-fair language lessons at 1318 1134 KBS3 Hwaseong, S. [IRCA] Oklahoma TP's 10/27/10
It was a morning when the best signals were coming from south of the border. There were very few signals making it this far inland from across the Pacific. Receiver: Modified Tecsun PL-310 with 7.5-inch loopstick. Local sunrise at 1248 UTC. 594 JOAK Tokyo J, 1249, music, poor, fading out by 1252. 702 unID (2BL?), 1233, carrier from 250°+/-, XEGD 700 QRM. 702 unID (JOKD?), 1252, carrier from 320°+/-, faded out by 1259. 774 JOUB Akita J, 1228, barely audible man & woman talking in KSPI 780 slop. 828 unID (JOBB?), 1246, strong het, faint audio. It seems like the current TP DX season continues to deteriorate. I didn't do any DXing last evening, but a check found hets at 531 and 549 kHz at 0500 UTC.
