[IRCA] Oklahoma TP's 11/7/10
TP signals weren't as good here this morning as yesterday. Local sunrise was at 1259 UTC. 693 JOAB Tokyo J, 1254, weak JJ audio //JOIB 747. Audio faded out 1313. 702 unID (possibly Chongjin KRE), 1155, carrier (het). Raspy carrier at 1232 with QRM from KHSE 700. Signal faded out at 1259. 747 JOIB Sapporo J, 1114, JJ audio. Audible off and on until fading out at 1310. 774 JOUB Akita J, 1102, JJ audio. Signal had a "sunrise lift", not fading out until 1310. The carrier was audible to 1315. 828 unID (probably JOBB), 1239, het below XEIK 830. 891 unID, 1241, het. 972 unID (probably HLCA), 1225, weak het. The raspy carrier signal on 702 kHz was possibly from North Korea. It faded away at sunrise. After the Asian signals faded out, I listened to XETCH 700 from 1320 until it faded away under KHSE at 1345. Receiver was a Tecsun PL-310 ultralight attached to a 7.5-inch loopstick. [IRCA] TP for 7 Nov from Victoria, BC.
Another interesting morningI don't think signals lasted as long today; there was a bit of a grinding to a halt at around 1520UT, and I didn't stick around to see if there was anything more. I'd heard enough by then! I'm not sure signals were quite as strong this morning, at least on the upper half of the band (even there, a nice lift after 1500UT), yet when I look at the results, they must have been similar to yesterday. Mostly, the quantity of DX was a function of the amount of time spent listening, and, it being Sunday, I was able to listen from 1345 until things fell apart. Is anyone else hearing the Chinese on 1476? There seem to be at least two there with about a half second offset, and at some points this morning they were fairly good; but for awhile before 1500UT, it seemed there was only one with music. Faded as the hour approached of course, but I heard offset pips faintly, then CC sounding talk resumed, with obviously two signals offset again. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 594 JOAK 747 JOIB very occasionally 774 JOUB 828 JOBB 972 HLCA later on 1566 HLAZ during JJ broadcast earlier, but quickly came back by 1415UT during the CC program 1575 VoA at 1505UT, a strong fade up just after 1500 reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 279 R. [IRCA] MW DX from Enid OK, November 7, 2010
All times and dates strictly UT. MW log editors are welcome to excerpt items, reformat and change to favorite timezone if necessary. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only; some caradio as specified; above 2 MHz on FRG-7 with 110-foot east-west longwire. ** JAPAN [and non]. Back to 747 at 1253 and could make out a bit of audio, no doubt JOIB, NHK Sapporo 2. Several of these made it the morning before to a DXpedition in northern Alabama (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 730, Nov 7 at 1303, R. Viva Vida ID by super-hype voice actor, poor, i.e. XEHB, Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua. 770, Nov 7 at 1241, infomercial in Spanish for a médico, phone 55- something, promoting medicina natural, shilling a book. Name sounds like Dr. Abel Cruz. 1246 breaks for ID as R. Fórmula, 103.3 and 970, (970 is XERFR, net HQ in the DF), Grupo Fórmula, phone for Dr., 55-25-28-70; 1314 still Grupo Fórmula, with its phone 30-08-33-27 (I think). The R. Fórmula affiliate on 770 is XEACH, Monterrey NL, 25 kW day power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 930, WKY OKC, a previous Sunday morning before 7:30 am CDT had something in English instead of Spanish, but only Spanish music this Sunday from 1305 UT and some other chex following semihour, i.e. same time in CST (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1580, KOKB Blackwell off the air, not just open carrier, Nov 7 at 1501. Dominating signal at the moment instead from E/W playing theme from ``Have Gun, Will Travel`` to open gun show. KHGG Fort Smith? KOKB still off at 1745 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 3160, WPJK, Orangeburg SC: what will it do on the first day of standard time, having failed during the first week of November to sign on at the correct legal sunrise time of 1200 UT? Just as I suspected, they keep signing on at 7:30 am local, regardless of DST or sunrise changes. Nov 7 at 1203 UT, no signal, but open carrier at 1228, S9+20. 1231 usual canned sign-on message as 1580 kHz, 1000 watts, by authority of the FCC (not including 3160), address, station manager gives his name, but I have never been able to copy it, and into gospel music. No toots, so maybe on Sunday the program is not called Gospel Train. If it keep signing on a semihour later than it needs to the rest of November, that will compensate for the illegal semihour early during the first week, but diminish its DXability. Nevertheless, I could still detect a carrier at 1257. This situation will only improve as we have two months to go until the latest sunrises, tho only one month until the earliest sunsets. Now will it really be signing off at the correct November and December time of 2215 UT? Please check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 770, Nov 7 at 1354 UT, ``The Talk Monster, KKOB`` Albuquerque NM, then report on Auto-Tune, the computer process messing up vocal music, outro as Perspective from ABC News, so still scheduled at 1305 UT Sundays, but KKOB doesn`t go to day pattern until 1345, after which it dominated the frequency for a while (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 1350, Nov 7 at 1459 UT, big band music from N/S, fade for ID, but 1500 bong and CBS news. Direxion, nostalgia format and news network all converge upon KRNT Des Moines IA per NRC AM Log 2010, so presumed. Skywave still incoming in upper end of band, KOZN Omaha also in a few minutes earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 1620, ``The Zone, ESPN radio for Omaha``, still audible at 1452 UT Nov 7; KOZN; no WTAW as northern paths with lower sun favored (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ### ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Brier, WA TP's for 11/7/10

Re: [IRCA] TA this evening in Victoria, BC
04:42 now, and I'm hearing 999 with fair audio, but suffering from 1000 splatter, so can't make out the language. I didn't think that TWR Moldova transmitted this early. My (old) EMWG doesn't have them on until 04:30 UTC. 1269 there at times with snippets. Presumably Spain or the Canary Islands. 1215 of course. No luck on 855, but 864 is there with France Bleu (864.005). 855 does have 3 carriers, and yes, some murky audio as a result. I'm measuring 854.999, 855.002 and 855.012. Other snippets, or strong carriers include 531, 621, 675, 747, 873, 963, and 1053 (prob. Romania, as it's a bit on the high side). I suspect it might have been a decent night at my DX cottage on Haida GwaiiWalt On Mon, Nov 8, 2010 at 3:54 AM, Nick Hall-Patch wrote: > Of course, other things to do this evening, but stopping by the receiver > from time to time has yielded audio traces on 1269, 1422 (not at the same > time; I've had them parallel in the past), 855 w/murky talk and a bit of a > hum. 999 w/ woman in Slavic inflected language at 1345...sure would like a > parallel or webstream for assumed Moldova; 1377 France Info w/ brass band > sounding mx followed by man then woman talking, all leading the webstream by > around 10 seconds. > > Best TA evening for me this seasonbut I certainly wouldn't mind it even > better (when I have time...) > > best wishes, > > Nick > > * > Nick Hall-Patch > Victoria, BC > Canada > > ___ > IRCA mailing list > IRCA@hard-core-dx.com > http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca > > Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the > original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the > IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers > > For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org > > To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com > > ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] ULR-TA's in Puyallup, WA Tonight
Hi Nigel, Nick and Walt, Having learned the hard way last year that dead-sounding TA's have a tendency to resurrect themselves, I stuck around to see if some Europeans would come in after 1575-Radio Farda's healthy fade-in. Sure enough, 1377 (presumed France) produced some poor audio around 0412 in the 1380 splatter, and 675-Radio Maria produced a few seconds of Catholic choral worship around 0433 here. 756 (presumed DLF) was close to audio at 0445 but failed to seal the deal, similar to a presumed 693-BBC, which was a strong carrier at 0441. All these were received here last season at much better signal levels, but wispy TA's may be the best we can hope for here on the West Coast his season. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA) C.Crane SWP slightly modified Ultralight 9' PVC tuned passive loop In a message dated 11/7/2010 7:20:08 P.M. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-7
Hello All, Favorable Asian propagation continued for a second day here, although a somewhat different set of TP stations provided the excitement. 738-BEL2 (Taiwan Fisheries) had its best signal of the Fall Season, as did 1575-VOA Thailand. A generous sunrise enhancement boosted several second-tier Asians up to vibrant levels, and most of the "big gun" TP's were still going strong well past 1500. Koreans seemed to do especially well today, as opposed to the Japanese (favored yesterday) and Chinese (favored the day before). Unlike yesterday, the band seemed relatively sedate around 1300, but livened up fairly quickly. 738 kHz had an unusually clean-sounding Asian carrier fade in around 1412 ( as opposed to BEL2's raspy, NK-like signal), which turned out to be a rare solo appearance from a presumed HLKG. Shortly thereafter BEL2 replaced the Korean with a huge Chinese pop music signal at 1422-- easily Taiwan's strongest audio for over a year. The unusually strong 738-Taiwan signal stuck around for about 10 minutes, providing a chance to record an ominous pulsating noise in the transmitted signal (more later). As noted previously by both Nick and Tom, 1575-VOA had a strong signal around the 1500 TOH, but here the long-range TP managed its best audio of the season (although only the "barefoot" 7.5" loopstick Ultralight was used for the reception). The Thailand mega-station blasted in on the modified ULR alone shortly before 1500, complete with a "Voice of America" ID at the TOH. Even though it's far from rare DX, it was one of the more exciting moments in a pretty enjoyable session. The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5" loopstick), inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB spotting receiver: 558 HLQH Daegu, S.
