Hi Walt, Bill and Richard,

Not too much better here this morning. Other than a weird 594-JOAK (with a
freakishly strong signal) and momentarily good fade-ins by 936-Anhui and
648-VOR, the morning was pretty forgettable.

[IRCA] Afternoon Scan on 1100 & 1120

2010-11-12 Thread bill kral
Remembrance/Veteran's Day 2010. Scanning 2 particular freqs as time was limited
I logged two pre-sunset power downs between 3:45 and 4:05 PST. 1. 1100 was
coming in from the east with a talk format but also heard some strange music
but could not get an ID as it faded at the TOH of course but I figure it was
KNZZ Grand Junction Colo. on their daytime pattern ahead of any trace of KFAX
in S F at 3:45 and was mixing with SF at 4PM  2. 1120 showed some country music
and and ad for an autobody shop but could not get any clues from a local
weather forecast after a TOH Fox News report as the signal dipped at that
moment and with KPNW cutting it was lost in the mix until disappearing moments
later.NRC log does not list anything matching this one. Bill in BC

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-12

2010-11-12 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

This morning's Asian propagation here was a mixed bag, with TP signal
levels generally nothing to shout about (in agreement with Richard, Bill
and Walt). Despite this, 594-JOAK again had a freakishly strong signal (as
it has managed twice before, during generally poor propagation here), and
936-Anhui had a momentary fade-in which was near its seasonal best strength.
The Japanese NHK2 "big guns" on 747, 774 and 828 were pretty vibrant
with their Friday night music program from 1400-1500, and 648-VOR managed a
few seconds of strong audio (during an overall losing battle with 650-CISL
splatter) in its Korean program around 1503. The other Asian "powerhouses"
were anemic this morning, with 639, 657, 738, 972 and 1134 struggling to
stay in audio. Like yesterday, the upper band was almost comatose, with
1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA essentially missing in action.

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the
frozen
back yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB spotting
receiver:

558 HLQH Daegu, S. Korea (presumed) Fair music at 1438, but
no 603-HLSA // available for identity check
585 JOPG Kushiro, Japan Fair Japanese talk pgm // 594 at 1445
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Another monster signal with Japanese
YL talk at 1507; strong all morning ("poor propagation?")
  _http://www.mediafire.com/?q7prtpgtgtteaq5_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?q7prtpgtgtteaq5)
639 CNR1 China Synchros Poor-fair Chinese speech at 1510
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Fairly strong during Korean
program at 1504, but usually losing the battle with CISL
  _http://www.mediafire.com/?6c0hoeupft7bzc7_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?6c0hoeupft7bzc7)
657 Pyongyang BS, N. Korea Anemic KK tirades in noise 1426
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan Barely audible with talk at 1448, // 594
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Much weaker than usual, in apparent
mix with Korean from HLKG at 1435
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Good with Japanese music pgm 1430
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Fair to good music in KTTH splatter 1434
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Good strength, alone w/ music at 1448
936 Anhui, China Good fade-in with instrumental music at 1451,
 near seasonal best _http://www.mediafire.com/?escz3ezcf9c27su_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?escz3ezcf9c27su)
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Unusually weak this morning; poor to
fair with Korean conversation at 1438
1134 KBS3 Hwaseong, S. Korea Another "big gun" with poor
signals all morning; anemic Korean male-female talk at 1358

For those Ultralight radio DXers (or any others) hoping for their
first TP reception, the Japanese "big gun" NHK stations are probably the best
bet. The Japanese 3 + 1 time pips at the top of the hour are a great way to
check the identity of these stations, and some interval music is usually
played just before the TOH on the NHK1 network (594, 666, 1503, etc.) This
recording of both was taken from the very strong signal of 594-JOAK this
morning at 1500: _http://www.mediafire.com/?hsbhzotv2s8t64k_

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 12 Nov 2010

2010-11-12 Thread Nigel Pimblett
TP reception was almost non-existent here in southern Alberta today.
The only Asian signal to reach audio (and barely) was Japan on 747
khz. A few Aussie signals were noted, with audio on 891, 1116, and
1548. Brisbane's 4BC 1116 was the best of the three, with fair audio,
even bordering on good at times.

[IRCA] TP for 12 Nov from Victoria, BC.

2010-11-12 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Another poor start this morning, but some lift after 1500UT meant it wasn't a
washout, though almost all Japanese. It seems odd to list 954 and 828 as the
same strength, but that seems to be partly because the big guns weren't all
that big this morning. In addition, fades up were quite sudden, followed by
quite rapid fades back down, all rather erratic.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

747 JOIB at 1456UT for maybe about 10 seconds, mostly in th murk otherwise

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK at 1459UT
774 JOUB
828 JOBB
954 two men in JJ at 1509UT; JOKR presumed
972 HLCA likely
1566 HLAZ , also after 1500UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker
1242 JOLF?
1287 JOHR?
1422 JORF?

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

666 seemed //594 so JOBK
1134 no idea in the 1130 splash
1143 ?

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

1548 DU

best wishes,

Nick

far as checking KWMT's stream (finding basketball).
A relog, but only heard once before. Also sime bluegrass in the mix a bit

Trying to see if the Latin music on 1020 is Maracaibo (relog), or something new
for me. Hard u/KDKA. No web stream found yet...

We've logged KOR 1566 and TWN 1557 in the evening. And until this morning
which was TP zilch we've had Japan, Korea and China at dawn. No India

We extended the south wire another 200 yds and this fit well with tonights
more favored propagation to South America. Lots more Brazil than usual.
