Re: [IRCA] 1710 khz The Big Q oldies pirate
I heard The Big Q from Minneapolis on Jan.2. It was MUCH weaker than Tim's report from Michigan. I was using a 40m dipole and switching between my Icom 706 and a Icom IC-PRC100. Most of the time, I could not make out any lyrics, or clear announcer speech. In the past, its been heard in London, Ontario and western Michigan. Since it was strong in Michigan and so weak in Minneapolis, it must be to the E or NE of Tim in Michigan? I just got a LD-1B SDR from Lazy Dog Engineering. Next time The Big Q comes on, I hope to SEE the signal peaks on my pc screen. :) Eric, ka0ywn Minneapolis, MN EN43 ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] New one to close out 2010
I closed out 2010 with a new one to the overall and ULR only logbook! I do not do target lists, which I should do but I have always been after WAPI 1070-AL. Got them on New Years Eve with Auburn basketball. It was // to WIXI 1360 (first heard back in October and now hear them often at SR and SS). I heard them through local 50Kw/10Kw DA-N WFNI. I was able to null the local enough for armchair copy. I still have many frequencies in the ULR book that have but one or two but I added 43 to the ULR book and 20 to the overall book. That overall book is only US and Canadian stations. ULR totals are at 248 and overall book at 816. 1070 WAPI AL Birmingham 12-31 1731 G in local WFNI null w/Auburn Basketball and ID during break. // to WIXI 1360. New! [IRCA] IRCA Vol 81 Issue 5 ?
Hi all, 01/03/11 There were no entries in IRCA 81 --- 5 . This is the first time I've seen an IRCA Site entry that came through without reports from club members. Does anyone remember if this ever happened before? I don't get much listening time in these days, unfortunately, otherwise I might have had a chance to prevent that one from coming through empty,LOL. Re: [IRCA] IRCA Vol 81 Issue 5 ?
Bill, I don't recall that happening before either but then I don't take the old format copy (mailed) anymore just SDXM. SDXM has had entries from dxers every issue as far as I can remember. Unfortunately due to HNL QRM none were from me. Don K. S.F. CA bill kral wrote: Hi all, 01/03/11 There were no entries in IRCA 81 --- 5 . [IRCA] High Speed Internet OT
I have discussed High Speed Internet on the refector before, but I found out today that Charter Cable has a deal for a flat rate of $29.95 a month for 8 MB, and a $5 lease of their modim. They did not mention if I could purchase a cable modim or not, and since I don't have cable to my house, they could run it to the house for another $9.99, instead of the $49.95. So, now I have to make a decision. I sure would like to have the high speed for the computer, and I can afford that, but Charter Cable has had a noise issue and I don't want TVI all over the receivers. Any comments? Thanks. Of course I am still on dialup for Web TV, but I only pay $12.95 a month for the one account and I can always use the dial up for the computer as a backup. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] High Speed Internet OT
I had Time Warner Cable broadband for several years and now have Mediacom. Both times, I had no interference problems. Some cable operators use contractors to do new customer installations. Those can be problematic. For example, TWC's contractor ran about 150 feet of coax from the pedestal to my house and then tried to feed three rooms of TV, phone and broadband all from that single cable. Not surprisingly, there wasn't enough signal to go around. TWC then sent one of its staff technicians who shook his head and promptly ran two more cables. Everything was fine after that. Just something to keep in mind if interference is a problem from day one. Re: [IRCA] High Speed Internet OT
Thanks Tim. The price is right and I can purchase a cable modim from them or Radio Shack and the service is only $29.95 a month. I remember back a few years ago when a lady moved in nearby that had cable before she moved at her old location, and the person before who owned the house had Direct TV, She did not want Direct TV, so she got cable. Charter Cable ran a spliced cable, cutting into their buried line and ran it to her house, and boy did it radiate to my eastern Beverage running a few feet away. TVI QRN like I had TV cable to the house. I don't think the cable caused the QRN, but it was people's TV sets that radiated from their cable as an antenna. That is why I am afraid of it. My area is almost noise free and my neighbors all have Dish or Direct TV. Cable here has always been leaky. That is a concern, probably more than the old higher price of $55. I almost went with Verizon wireless for $55 a month at 5 G a month, which is expensive but no noise. I have been waiting for DSL out here and we are going to get it in time. But at $29.95 a month for fast internet, I am still thinking about it, but a lot of my DX may go out the window. But what is more important to me? So far the DX, but I am tired of 28.8 dialup. Once they run the cable to my house, which I refused years ago, the radiation is there (If there still is that issue), as even if they disconnect the service the coax still can radiate. Thanks - I was hoping you were on-line tonight :-) California is really coming in good tonight to the Seattle area: 870-KRLA and ESPN-790 (presumed Clovis/Fresno) are uncommon here but in well, plus KSJX doing fairly well against KSTP. Hi, Nick. I'm just back from Masset. This one was really coming in well last night with CRI in Russian at 04:54 UTC.
