Hello To All. Propagation was topsy turvy last evening as a pending solar eruption arrived during the night. With the Solar K Index at 5 and the noise and static level higher, pulling out signals was much tougher than previous evenings during the past month. Those that did make it through at times were strong for a while. During a rise towards a peaking solar disturbance and the recovery from same, there always seems to be an offering of signals not normally heard during other times, as was the case with last night's logging on 945 khz . 909-ENGLAND-BBC 5 Live, Moorside Edge 23:29UT/29 talk about Royal wedding 945-Unidentified- 00:02UT/30 man in Russian lang. ment Dasvidania (France was blocked out by this eventually for a while ) possibly R. Re: [IRCA] Union Oil Road Map with 1940 Radio Guide listings (OT)
Bert, eBay is easy, my wife and I started in early October 2010 and now are power sellers. I just traded a Kiwa loop for a Hickok FAA tube tester. I still have one Kiwa left. The last Kiwa on eBay sold at auction for $600.00 Take the old maps from your father In-Law and do a search on eBay for each map to see if they sold. There is a completed listings area on eBay and that will tell you what road maps are selling. I'd be happy happy to give you help if you need it. Thanks, Gary. I came across a post (yahoo ultralightdx #13426) in which you mentioned you'd taken a photo showing where the terminals are located on the PL-606. Unfortunately, I cannot view the images in the yahoo group messages. Is the image also hosted somewhere else, like mediafire, dxer.ca or the files section of ultralightdx (and I'm looking in the wrong place)? To: irca@hard-core-dx.com Date: Friday, April 29, 2011, 6:19 PM Hi Stephen, In answer to your question, the PL-606 has an external FM-SW antenna jack which can presumably be rewired like the Laurie Mann modification to the PL-310, allowing the use of external AM plug-in antennas to replace the stock loopstick. But since nobody (that I'm aware of) has done this modification yet on the PL-606, it's unlikely that you'll find any documentation for the procedure. The MW and LW 7.5 plug-in loopsticks that I've designed for the PL-360 model use the radio's own plug-in loopstick jack, and although these antennas will work well with any Tecsun DSP Ultralight model, the PL-606 would need something like the Laurie Mann modification before these or any other external AM antennas could be plugged into the radio. A serious time crunch here (finishing up the LW plug-in loopstick orders and other antenna projects) makes it tough to take on any new projects like this currently. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA) -Original Message- From: Stephen Airy pianoplayer88...@yahoo.com To: irca irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Fri, Apr 29, 2011 2:42 pm Subject: [IRCA] PL-606 LW/MW plug-in antenna mod? Re: [IRCA] PL-606 LW/MW plug-in antenna mod?
Hi Stephen, A detailed photo showing the Tecsun PL-606 loopstick connections is posted at http://www.mediafire.com/i/?d7i9qy8o5nz4rrr When you access the link, click on the Large photo option, then follow the two Litz wire connections from the loopstick's left side to the AM Coil terminals on the upper left side of the circuit board. These are the two connections that you will need to reroute to an external hard-wired antenna, should you desire to permanently improve upon the PL-606's AM or LW performance. Of course, the use of inductively coupled external antennas like tuned passive loops (ferrite or air core) will allow you to temporarily boost the PL-606's AM or LW performance without the need to perform any such surgery on the radio itself. 73, Gary -Original Message- From: Stephen Airy pianoplayer88...@yahoo.com To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Sat, Apr 30, 2011 6:56 pm Subject: Re: [IRCA] PL-606 LW/MW plug-in antenna mod?
