Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
Brian, Yes, so mny wonderful memories. Living on the Oregon Coast, I have heard lots of Australians/New Zealanders through the years. I remember back in the Summer of 1979, I went to the post office and there were 7 QSLs, 4 from Australia and 3 from New Zealand! All in one day. In the bunch was a beautiful full color card from 2GB Sydney. A picture of the sunset with big Gold letters of "2GB" on the front. Ah...The good ol' days. Ernie Cooper of MA and I were corresponding quite often on QSLing as we loved it as much as I did at the time. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Hi, A nice thread on QSL's. Lots of memories come flooding back of arriving in after a days work to find an envelope from some distant land and the kids waiting to see the contents hi! Re: [IRCA] July 2011 Oregon Beach Ultralight DXpedition
Hi Gary, Ha Ha! I've nearly misspelled my own name that way a number of times over the years. I don't know how many times I've corrected a "Gut" or Guty" when typing my name at the end of an email. "y" is right next to "t" on the keyboard and it's easy to hit the wrong one if your fingers are flying too fast. I just had a "gut" feeling that it would make it to print eventually. 73, **GUY** Atkins Puyallup, WA > Message: 3 > Date: Fri, 5 Aug 2011 10:01:16 -0400 (EDT) > From: d1028g...@aol.com > To: irca@hard-core-dx.com > Subject: Re: [IRCA] July 2011 Oregon Beach Ultralight DXpedition >Report > Message-ID: <8ce218f46f8ad4f-1ab4-a...@angweb-usd004.sysops.aol.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed > > Thanks Bill, > > Your comment on the DXpedition report is appreciated. > > Sorry about the typo on Guy's name-- if I didn't know him so well, I'd > probably be in trouble! Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
Rick, DX has been down for sometime and add to that, I just don't get excited with e mail QSLs. Better than nothing, but not much. That QSL letter or card was always the prize and those are getting more rare. The past 10 years, everything has been going in the direction to e mail, if you get that reply. I know several stations that will only QSL via e mail. Nothing else. The "HeyDay" of the good QSL is on its' way out. I never thought I would ever say that, but with the advent of the Computer World things have changed. We are stuck with it, unlss we start designing our own QSL cards with logos off the stations' website and the like. I have done a bit of that with letterhead, but it still is not as much fun, as you still get back the same piece of paper you sent.

Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
And the e-mail replies are the ones, personally, that I couldn't care less for. I want to have something to put into a 3-ring binder to admire in the future, and printing up an e-mail response on a blank white sheet of paper -- no colorful logo or anything -- is plain-label and mundane, IMHO. I'd rather have something nice on their stationary that stands out in a collection. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: Patrick Martin To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America Sent: Friday, August 5, 2011 10:30 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] QSL replies Nigel, Great to see those two are still DXer friendly. [IRCA] July 2011 Oregon Beach Ultralight DXpedition Report
Hello All, For those interested in the full (7-page) transoceanic DXing report of the new 8" medium wave Ferrite Sleeve Loop antenna's performance during last month's ocean beach DXpedition to Lincoln City, OR, it has been uploaded to http://www.mediafire.com/?0j1jc3shhsvod5s . Detailing the FSL antenna's design, testing and refinements prior to the South Pacific DXing trip, various detailed photos are provided showing the antenna's construction and beach setup arrangement. MP3 links are also provided for recordings of 2 Longwave and 17 Medium Wave stations, including the relatively obscure DX loggings of 666-Noumea (an all-time new Ultralight DX country), 603-Waatea, and a presumed 639 kHz National Radio (NZ) relay station (2 kw). Links are also provided for the companion LW DXpedition report and prior Oregon Beach DXpedition summaries. For those interested in the new FSL antenna's capability to provide awesome DXing gain from an extremely compact space, it should prove to be interesting reading. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
