[IRCA] KTRB 860's signal

2011-08-24 Thread Patrick Martin
Really interesting since KTRB is on at night, I no longer hear KPAM
Portland. I either get KTRB or CFPR. I have noticed this the past couple
of nights. Is KPAM's night signal gone now? They kind of null the NW
anyway to protect CFPR, but I could get KPAM weakly in the past off the
SW EWE or Eastern Beverage, but now KTRB with their SS replaced KPAM.

[IRCA] TP's for 08/24/11

2011-08-24 Thread Dennis Vroom
Five of the Radio Rossii stations from Russia were heard this morning,
signals ranged from good to weak.  Pop music was played during the time
I listened (around 1235 utc).  Noticed more carriers every morning, but not
a lot of audio from the TP's on MW.  HLAZ 1566 seems to be the powerhouse
station at this location.

738      Tahiti 1312 turned up latter this morning with weak signal.
1566    Republic of Korea HLAZ  1246 weak, signal improved during the 1300 hour
            to fair.
1575    Thailand, VOA 1258 weak with woman in Asian langauge.

2011-08-24 Thread John Sampson
This brings to mind a question. We were in Tofino, B. C. for a few days and I
noted that the Pacific Rim TIS was off the air. It was on (1260?) last time we
visited (~2005) and am wondering when it went off. Also, CBXQ (540) in
Ucluelet was much weaker than before, too. Barely audible in Tofino day and
night. Looked for its tx site when in Ucluelet but no luck; any one know where
it is? Interesting, too, that KSWB has one of the strongest daytime signals on
Chesterman Beach south of Tofino. Thanx. - John

Bill,
I found KPAM dominant here in Seattle at around 10 PM last night.
I'll keep trying, as I'd like to log KTRB.

Rick,

That is interesting that you heard KPAM dominant in Seattle! KPAM is
supposed to null the NNW protect CFPR. I could not get a peep out of
KPAM here off any of my antennas. I will check again tonight, but once
the sun goes down, of late it has disappeared.

2011-08-24 Thread Patrick Martin
John,

That is what I reported for several months that CBXQ was about
non-existant, after being a regular here 24/7. I finally could barely
hear it, as checking // with 690-CBU. But they were very weak. At S4
during the day after it signed on in the late 60s. Now they are back in
signal. Has been back for a few weeks. So they had some issue. CBXQ is
located at the Boat Basin in Ucluelet. You will see the blue small
building where is says property of the CBC, with a longwire going out
towards the ocean. Sits right on the water. A dandy ground & antenna! I
have a pix of them back in 1974. I drove out there just to see the
location as I have always been amazed how well it gets out. Infact when
I was there in 1974, I got the 2nd harmonic on 1080 strong in town.
Tofino was on 860 in those days, but I never heard it on the coast. Just
540, which is still there daily.
Yes, I heard KSWB/KAST/KVAS (now KKEE) all strong during the day
there.

I thought even with the skip, KTRB did not put much signal up the coast
at night, but apparently they do. They aren't KFAX in signal, but very
easy to listen to if you know SS.

Is CBXQ back to full strength now? I recall being able to barely hear them

Re: [IRCA] TP's for August 23, 2011

2011-08-24 Thread Dennis Vroom
Hi Kaz,

At the old location with the NW ewe, JOUB 774 & JOBB 828 were usually
the first stations heard in August.  At our new place, HLAZ 1566 is the
strongest
TP on MW.  I was really surprised that I could hear 5 Russian long-wave
stations on most nights.   At the old location, maybe that would happen twice
a season.  The land here is very dry in the summer, so I water my ground rods
daily.
When the rain returns this fall the Ewe antennas should be working better.  I
have one
bog, 200' long, that is connected to the Palstar R-30 cc that I use on the night
stand in the bedroom.  All electricity is underground even on the main road.
We have some large pine trees and I'm planning on stringing a loop around them.

A ham nearby saw my antennas and stopped by to talk antennas.  He had a
1,000' loop antenna supported by four tall pine trees, but lost the loop when
some supporting ropes broke.  He's around 75 years old and I told him I would
help him put it back up.   I'm going to try to get him interested in MW dxing.
Our 3 acres is pie-shaped, with the wide area being higher than the point;
guessing
a 20' drop.   At this place I don't have to go and raise and lower the antennas
because of CC&Rs.  All four antennas, Kiwa loop, High Performance Active Whip,
SW Ewe and the Long-wire had all heard TP's.  Being 52 miles from the ocean
and a elevation of 1052' I think this place will be a good DX location.  Anyone
with antenna suggestions please let me know.  Thanks for the question Kaz.

Best regards,

Dennis,
Kalama, WA

While in the Vancouver, WA area this afternoon, we drove by the KXET
