Re: [IRCA] Off Topic?

2011-09-13 Thread GEORGE SANTULLI
Thanks Nick

Only once when my first line was too short and I had to connect two coax cables
with an SO 239 fem-fem barrel connector. One thing I want to do is run one line
from balun to the outside 239 with no connector. Tnx for help. George in VA

Have you experience with using the  PL-259 (mating to the SO-239)
connectors outdoors George?   The feedthrough idea is a good one, but
I believe some connectors are better than others for
resisting  intrusion by rain and other nasty weather.  Some people
coat them with rubber tape (Bishop's tape etc.).  I'm not an expert
on the subject; my BNC's outdoors are either coated or under an
overhang to keep most of the rain off, and they seem to be doing OK.

best wishes,

Nick

September 12, 2011  Not sure this is the right forum for an antenna
question. If not, please direct me to the right one. I am thinking
of re-doing my lead in coax for my 400 foot longwire. Instead of
taking it right into the radio as I have done in the last few
years,  I am thinking of putting in a two way SO-239 female
connector in the bottom of the window frame so I can run a coax from
the wire the outside of the SO-239, then a coax from the inside
part of the SO-239 to the radio. Last year, the hole I ran the
coax through the window got leaky on cold winter nights and this two
way SO-239 solves that. Question: What is the best coax to run about
100 feet from my longwire to the outside SO-239 and does the inside
coax from the interior SO-239 need to be the same type of wire or is
there an impedance mismatch if I used a different coax wire? I think
I used RG-58/U, because I had it laying around. Or does it not
matter? Thanks. George A. SantulliLovettsville, VA

[IRCA] Where to to find PSSA and PSRA infp

2011-09-13 Thread Wayne Heinen

Quoting Paul B. Walker, Jr. walkerbroadcast...@gmail.com:

WRLV-AM would have Post Sunset Authority that were not aware of. The only
place this record would be kept is on paper at the station.

Also, sign off for WRLV-AM last month was 830pm.. and Ive known stations to
forget to program their remote control for the next month... some station
can program it in once into their transmitter or remote control and it
works.. others must do it by hand every month.

Paul

To Paul and the list

from page ix of the new 32nd edition of the log

Beginning this year a proofing of the PSRA and PSSA in the FCC?s CDBS
has begun. We have added codes for LSRA ?Limited Sun Rise Authority?
and LSSA, Limited Sunset Authority. These indicate were the
station has an Authority but it is limited in the number of months out
of the year that it has been authorized. This is done to protect
other stations on the channel from interference during these periods.
Those wishing to find the exact Authority can review the documents at
the FCC?s CDBS site. Using the CDBS station search:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/sta_sear.htm. Go to
Details on the stations search form then View Correspondence Folder .
This link will

show the PSRA and PSSA documents for the station if any exist.

Monitored this morning between 13:10 and 13:45 UTC. Terrible conditions
continue, as could easily be seen by Nick's DX Fishbarrel. Once again, the
best I got were some threshold audio, or very weak audio. Primarily from

very modest DU dawn enhancement occurred at around 13:30. SF 124, A 24

2011-09-13 Thread Todd
Colin,

I will be in Hawaii either in Feb. or july, not sure yet. This time I am
taking my sony icf 2010 with me. I did retain my past logs from just north of
Poipu.
I recall hearing alot of SS heard on many freq.
My best catch from there would be Alberta on 1140. This was 4th years ago.
Im really hoping you get some great dx.

Looking forward to a month in Hawaii in January -

No audio clips to share (I still need to pick up a device that will allow me

WING), KBNO-1280 in Denver at 0459 CLT, and KTHS-1480 in Arkansas a minute
later.  A huge letdown, especially in light of the two previous all-night
sessions that I had done (August 18 and September 6), which yielded at least
16 new stations each time.  Someone on 1280 with Fox Sports Radio was mixing
with KBNO during the 4:00 hour -- almost positive this was WBIG in Aurora, IL,
but it never stayed up well enough for me to catch an ID.    I did get someone
on 1220 with the Mexican nat'l anthem at 0603 CLT, which I would love to
believe was XEB, but it faded out before the end of the song, so I've no way
of knowing if it was indeed a Mexican or just a domestic station playing it.
Unneeded WDLR in Ohio was ruining 1550 by running its
Spanish format all night, thus nixing any hopes I had for much-wanted CBE.
And, of course, I've already mentioned KRMO-990 in Missouri.  At sunrise, I
 went after WOR-710, WTIC-1080, WIP-610, and CKWW-580, but all were no-shows.
Someone noted on 1030 at 0553 CLT with Spanish programming in KCTA's
null...I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's WWGB in Maryland, which will
hopefully pay a return visit soon and long enough for an ID.

Here where I live between Seaside and Astoria my closest locals:

KAST-1370-1KW-Astoria-5.6 MI-S9+35
KKEE-1230-1 KW-Astoria-7.01 MI-S9+38
KSWB-840-1/.5KW-Seaside-8.8 MI-S9+38

The signals vary depending on what antenna I use. Like KSWB is S9+38 off
the WSW EWE, but on the NE EWE is is S9+18 DB. Those above S meter
reading are the strongest. All locals can be phased mostly out at night.

I listen to day timer KNBA 1190 and the horse race recreations with Bill Terry

they turned their radio on the next day.
