Re: [IRCA] TP for 26 Sep 2011: Comparisons with Masset
I just returned from a 6 day jaunt to my DX cottage on Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), off the north-west coast of BC. I read with interest Bruce's comments, this morning. On the contrary, I was most impressed with the TP reception this morning, listening between 12:55 and about 15:00 UTC before pulling down everything for the flight home. The Chinese were particularly strong today, as were the Russians. Most of the MW band had one or more TPs present, often at armchair level. A few highlights this morning, and observations: Russian LW: 180 was not heard at all this week. Off the air for repairs, or permanently? 864.916 heard in Chinese the past couple of days. Thanks to Mauno Ritola telling me that this is Binzhou PBS News Channel. PAL needs to reflect this. 1080 Anchorage is back on the air. I missed the call letters, but did hear the ID as, "The new 1080, The Ticket" at 14:22 today. Later on, they were knocked off by Asian stations. This time of the year is very interesting in Masset, as it's fun to watch virtually the whole of North America disappear to be replaced by 9 kHz spaced TP stations from top to bottom, and often at armchair levels. Looking at my notes, most frequencies rated "8 to 9+" levels. Wow! No DU activity today, although I did hear a modest amount of DU activity in days past. Yesterday, I also had some very nice Filipino copy on 1314, presumably DWXI, way over the Japanese or Korean stations. I noted that the NHK2 network signed off each day for the past 6 days at 14:40 UTC. I collected 219 GB of excellent Perseus SDR files to have fun with. No signs of TA activity at all during the past week, presumably owing to the solar activity. This compares to reasonable TA activity a year ago at this time, and fabulous TA activity during the first DXpedition to Masset 4 years ago,all at the same time of September. I was hoping to get out to Rose Spit for a DC only overnight session, but family commitments prevented this from occurring. Rose Spit is particularly good for DU DX. Oh well, perhaps during my next visit in a few months. 73s,...Walt ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

They do, but so does WRCO in Richland Center, according to the Milwaukee Brewers affiliate list that I printed off radiotime.com. That's why I'm especially curious to know whtich one I have. And the Reds list shows two affiliates on 1340, WXFN in Muncie, IN and WIZE in Springfield, OH. [IRCA] Alberta TPs for 26 Sep 2011
Due to failure of a key electronic component (aka my alarm clock), I missed much of this morning's listening, but from what I heard at 1300 it certainly wasn't the DU feast observed by our friends in Oregon. The audio here was primarily Japan, with pretty strong signals on 693, 747, and 774, along with my first audio of the season on 1242. Strong carriers on 954 and 1422 were also likely Japanese. The only DU noted was on 891, which reached weak audio at about 1305. Also very weak audio on 1575, presumably Thailand, but too weak to be certain. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] Oldies on 1220.
Bill, with all due respect, I've often wondered what seriously out of date sites you use to get your info from? CJUL has been silent for at least several years and CJRB hasn't played any thing resembling AC at least when I've heard them during the last few years. 73 KAZ -Original Message- >From: bill kral >Sent: Sep 26, 2011 12:50 AM >To: "irca@hard-core-dx.com" >Subject: Re: [IRCA] Oldies on 1220. > >Could the elusive and mysterious 1220 with oldies ( the list of songs tells me >that it's 70s hits) be a relatively low powered station( 1Kw) in Cornwall On >with call letters CJUL?The only other Oldies station would be even further >east and is really LP at night ( 180w) in Newburgh NY.If the format can be AC >with not a not so new music format then it might be CJRB in Boissevain MB >which might be powerful enough (10Kw) to be the one you heard. Re: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Monday--good DU
Steve, Glad to hear that the DU's made it over the mountains. Often they don't. I guess it depended on where the person was. There were a lot of DUs, plus a lot of other stuff too. I was a bit surprised, as a strong DU morning often the Northern Asians would be knocked out, but not today. I just did not get up as early as I would have liked to either. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] Oldies on 1220.
And as of a week ago, CJRB was still running a mix of classical music and ethnic programming on Radio Southern Manitoba, so that's out, as well. Heck, maybe it WAS KJAN...I've never known them to simulcast or mention KNOD, or vice versaa call to the station's PD might solve the mystery. 73, Stumped in South Omaha From: Scott Fybush To: irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Monday, September 26, 2011 12:55 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Oldies on 1220. [IRCA] DX Tip for WDXR
910KCJBND, Minot, was tuning around and heard C&W on 910, I almost kept moving, as I thought it was CKDQ as they are common here and are C&W, but at 0335 EDT, the announcer came on giving the weather for Minot and other points in North Dakota. On top of the jumble using my NE EWE which does have a null on Portland, but KTRO doesn't have the punch out here on the coast they used to, especially when they were KISN in the 70s. KCJB is Classic C&W, 64 degrees at the KCJB studio. ID "For the best in sports from high school to college to the "pro's", this is the magic city's 91 Classic Country, KCJB" Into C&W music. New for me. I was quite surprised, especially not using the Eastern beverage. North Dakota on 910 in 2011, I am surprised to say the least!
