I listened briefly only hearing a carrier (no audio)
on 774 around local sunrise (1302 UTC). Transoceanic
signals continue to elude me this season.

Good DX everyone.

[IRCA] Newfoundland Ultralight Radio Trans-Atlantics & Domestics Report Nov 9 - 10

2011-11-10 Thread Allen Willie
Hello To All,

Good propagation continuing here in the North Atlantic with a much earlier
start to things the past couple of evenings. Trans-Atlantic signals have been
audible as early as 18:00 UTC or 2:30 PM local time in the afternoon now.

I had been thinking about our Ultralight DX partners; Rob ,Gary and Kevin and
their DXing exploits out in the elements , so this session included a one hour
segment up at the "Hope for DX" radio shack behind the house. A bit chillier
than Dxing from the house, however the DX was quite remarkable and no uninvited
varmints with stripes were present either, Rob !!!

... Dianne often wonders what happened to that pesky woodpecker that kept
trying to get in !

5 new ones added to the "Hope" logbook . Also just a few logs added to this
list from the previous evening as well.

I thought this one had been ID'd as WDGR out of northern GA by people
more local to them. The bearing I get in Sioux Falls, SD on my homebrew
12" active/regenerative ferrite for the signal would back that up.

On my commute home between 5-6 pm EST, in SW PA, I'm hearing a STRONG het on
1210, approx. a G# (415 Hz). Now, at 7:30 pm at home, I'm also hearing it on
my Tecsun. Peaks roughly N-S. Any ideas? Thanks-

Re: [IRCA] Approx 420 Hz het on 1210?

2011-11-10 Thread Tim Hills

LOL Paul,

Since my XYL and I aren't legally married yet I can still be right now
and then. Though she does think I need some cerebral laxative.

At 1210KHz the null on that loop is about +/-5*, KOKK "moves around" a
bit from day to day on that loop, I think the regen windings or amp
might be a bit imbalanced or maybe where the cat is sitting makes a
difference. Got the rotator and remote controls set up, it's going on
the roof this weekend (I hope) maybe getting it away from the
chicken-wire reenforced plaster walls will help a bit.

I've gotten pretty much the same result with 1 other ferrite and a
spiral air wound for the "mystery signal".

I can't rule out Cuba, the Bahamas, States in between or Florida
assuming it's not CFYM or hopping over the pole. The one ferrite does
have a bias in one peak and it was stronger to the SE than the NW.

Don't I pay taxes so agencies like the FCC can investigate and correct
this kind of thing?

2011-11-10 Thread Powell E. Way III
We think it is someone else. IF WDGR is at the old site, I would 100% rule it
out. The tower is surrounded by hills and mountains.  If you look at the tower
site, from the paved road you have to look DOWN to see the tower. if it's
at  the new site, then H, but I can hear WDGR in the day with no beat note,
and I should early in the evening and don't.

There is no mystery here any longer. These are distorted WDGR Dalhonega ID's. I
have the same thing on my Perseus Oct 30 recording at 2256:15z and audio soon
drops and the open carrier remains. I measured 1210.407 but this seems to be
drifting very slightly.

Re: [IRCA] Missing websites?

2011-11-10 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
This is an occasional problem here also Barry. I check the site
fairly regularly, but often get this message the first time round. A
refresh of the browser usually brings it back (but not
always). Using Firefox 4.0.1 here, I should check with other browsers maybe.

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] KCAR-1350 Clarksville, TX on day power late

2011-11-10 Thread Rick Dau
Heard here at 2159 ELT with "The Closer You Get" by Alabama, then "...KCAR,
Clarksville" noted in legal ID, followed by Judds song.  Appears to be running
its 410 day stick.  Go get 'em if ya need 'em!

[IRCA] MW DX from Enid OK, October 30-November 10, 2011

2011-11-10 Thread Glenn Hauser
All times and dates strictly UT. MW log editors are welcome to excerpt items,
reformat and change to favorite timezone if necessary. Rx: mostly DX-398 with
internal antenna only; some caradio as specified; above 2 MHz on FRG-7 with
110-foot east-west longwire.

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

** CANADA. CBC Radio One`s `Ideas` this week is a series about the 75th
anniversary of CBC; I hope to catch them all on webcasts: UT Tue-Sat first
airing at 0005 to the AT/NT zones, e.g. CBN, and repeated at 0105, 0205, 0305
and 0405 to westward zones. Off to a disappointing start: the narrator said
twice that the original CFCF in Montreal was `WXA` instead of correct
proto-calls XWA as any radio historian should know (Glenn Hauser, OK, Nov 2, DX
LISTENING DGIEST)

** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 2850, Nov 10 at 1307, S9+15 KCBS with emphatic Korean
talk; 4450 also had Korean talk atop jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 1030, Nov 1 at 1355 UT, was not expecting to hear a Mexican an hour
after sunrise here, but there are Grupo Fórmula promos, 1356 Banco de México ad
listing lots of 0800 toll-free numbers, roughly from east/west, 1358 losing out
to C&W station. First I figured it might be Tijuana still in darkness, but
that`s not Fórmula, instead per Cantú:
1030 XEYC Radio Fórmula Cd. Juárez, Chih. 5,000 500
IRCA agrees on the group for this one, but Tampico, now surely too far east
into dayside, is on another Fórmula network. Sunrise in Juárez was 1322 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 1040, Nov 6 at 1251 UT, convenient ID at tune-in, ``Desde Guaymas,
Sonora, México, Radio Vida``, i.e. XEGYS, tho Cantú still names this ``La
Primera``, 5 kW day and 250 watts night, which it surely is on the Mexican
Pacific coast (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210, I sure am hearing KGYN Guymon a lot at night, when it is
supposed to be nulling toward Philadelphia, not far from the Enid azimuth. Nov
6 at 1248 UT, dominant country music on frequency, while official November
sunrise in the center of No Man`s Land is 1330 UT. FCC shows in CST with [UT]
added:

Monthly Local Sunrise Times
November7:30 [1330]
December7:45 [1345]
January 8:00 [1400]
February7:30 [1330]

Monthly Local Sunset Times
November5:30 [2330]
December5:30 [2330]
January 6:00 []
February6:30 [0030]
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1600, Oct 29 around 2050, seems like Cushing`s KUSH is open
carrier, only, but at least a carrier instead of nothing (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 660, Nov 5 at 1300 after some C&W music, missed ID but now CNN News
about death at 92y of Andy Rooney, CBS, RIP. 1305 fade during another ID but
after some more country music, English announcement and then into another
language, sure sounded like Navajo as CCI grew. Altho this was looping
east-west, I had been dismissing KTNN Window Rock AZ/NM as a possibility since
it`s half a sesquihour before sunrise there and they should still be nulling
toward WFAN and me. Official November sunrise is 1345 UT, December 1415,
January 1430. (i.e. 7:45 am MDT Nov 5, 6:45 am MST from Nov 6. Watch out for
many MW stations to power up at wrong time tomorrow.) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 660, Nov 6 at 1310 UT, Indian chanting and drumming from the
east/west, vs Dallas/Omaha from the N/S, no doubt KTNN AZ again radiating
eastward long before local sunrise (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 770, Nov 1 at *1345 UT, KKOB Albuquerque cuts on non-direxional 50 kW
day pattern with programming about stox in progress, no greeting to us eastward
listeners. Good signal held up for several minutes despite starting a semihour
later than in Oct. Official sunrise gets later and later, 1400 in Dec, 1415 in
Jan, while sunset is oblately at its earliest, UT, both in Nov and Dec
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 830, Nov 2 at 1303 UT, ending Huckaby rant, ``My Talk 830, KOTC``,
local news, briefly audible with WCCO nulled. This is the 10 kW daytimer widely
accused of cheating at night, COL Kennett MO in the Bootheel, but address in
Poplar Bluff, and supposedly moving to Memphis (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 840, Oct 31 at 1334 UT, ABC News, into GEICO ad, 1336 ad for Chevy
pickup dealer in Osceola, seed company in West Point, KTIC mentioned in
passing. Osceola presumably referring to the little town SW of West Point in
Nebraska, not the Osceola in IA. KTIC is 5 kW daytimer, which on a good quiet
day can be
