Much better than usual for Asians this morning, with the high band

favor the low, then it shifted to the high end. 1710 Seattle Russian

594 Asian, poor 1425 utc
693 Asian, very poor/poor in heavy splatter
828 Asian, very poor/poor
891 Asian, very poor
1566 presumed HLAZ, very poor 1434
1593 Asian very poor in heavy splatter but eventually getting better, to
poor at times. This was the last to fade out around 1455.

1413 Asian, very poor/poor with Asian vocal music 1447
1377 Asian talk, very poor/poor 1448

LWBC Rossii generally poor but some fadeups. 153, 171, 189, 234, 279 at

A few things I've uncovered about KBRV...

They may or may not be at low power.. about a month ago, their 5KW
transmitter failed and they filed an STA to run 40 Watts. That was
when they were on 790, so they may have gotten a new 10KW transmitter
on 800.

Secondly, they have a webstream. Even though it is right channel only,
it can provide useful to verify it is them you are hearing..

[IRCA] TPs for November 12th

2011-11-12 Thread Guy Atkins
Monitored a bit this morning via recordings and found no TPs other than a
few week carriers prior to 1300. By 1350, things were picking up a bit with
fair audio from 828 JOBB parallel to 693 JOAB, and also the NHK1 powerhouse
JOAK on 594. I also heard scraps of audio from 774 JOUB, but the station
was splattered pretty badly by 770 and 780.

At 1404, 657 kHz was producing weak audio but I couldn't get any clues as
to the language.

1500 top of the hour produced 5+1 time pips from China on 1593. The Chinese
audio was fair but I couldn't make out any clues... CNR1?

Lastly, I found some weak, undecipherable audio on 936 kHz at 1505.

Overall, not a lot of TP actions this morning.

2011-11-12 Thread neilkaz
Nice going, Tim and showing that this stuff is still possible later in the
season. I haven't been trying towards the west due to recent bad line noise in
Barrington which, hopefully is being fixed while I am away for most of this
month. I don't expect to make it back to WI until December either, where I will
also try for DU's.

Have you had any audio yet on 738 from Grafton? It is the same ABC pgm as
Sydney 702 during these hours.

Clearly, with perseverence more non X-band DU's can be had in the midwest.

[IRCA] New Station on 1350

2011-11-12 Thread Barry McLarnon
CIRA-5 in Gatineau QC is on the air today... except for a brief test a few
weeks ago, this is the first time I've heard them on. I have no idea what
their programming or schedule will be in the long run, but they currently are
running talk and singing (in French) by young kids, with occasional mentions
of "Radio Enfant". Also noteworthy is the fact that they are way off
frequency, currently on 1350.077, which may help to pick them out on the
channel. Power is 1000 W days and 180 W nights, but I'm not sure about their
pattern.

Who will be first outside the Ottawa-Gatineau area to log this one?

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] New Station on 1350

2011-11-12 Thread Sheldon Harvey
Barry, wasn't there a Radio Enfant (CJEU I think) already on in Gatineau on
1670 kHz?

CIRA are the call letters used here in Montreal by a French Catholic religious
organization called Radio Ville-Marie.  I think this new station on 1350 is
their new outlet based on the following info on a Wikipedia page about CIRA
"CIRA-5: Ottawa-Gatineau (1350 AM) - received CRTC approval on September 23,
2009 to add an AM transmitter on the frequency 1350 kHz to rebroadcast the
programming of CIRA-FM in Montreal.[5] The 1350 AM frequency was a former
frequency that was used by CHVR in Pembroke, Ontario, until it moved to FM in
1996."

CIRA Radio Ville Marie has a webpage http://www.radiovm.com

Yes, CJEU-1670 was Radio Enfant, and it still is, but it now shares time with
"Oxygene Radio". As Tony Ward has already mentioned, the new 1350 is
currently //1670, but I expect that to change once they move to their
religious programming format, //CIRA-FM. Looks like Tony gets the nod as the

Hey Sylvain, well done. I am hearing a Greenland Beacon (NA 359) tonight with a
fair signal, but cannot quite reach Iceland (except on LW AM, where quite good
on 189). I don't think this new one (1350.077)will exactly gum up the
frequency. It was barely ahead of 11 others of very similar strength on the
Perseus display, and only on the 50 degree BOG.

Hi Tony,

I'm also hearing NA 359 here (...and thanks for advising!). As you may
have learned, Icelandic MW has been shut down some months ago so there's
very little left to dx from up there. 189 still is definitely, the most
reliable frequency heard here.

on 189). I don't think this new one (1350.077)will exactly gum up the
frequency. It was barely ahead of 11 others of very similar strength on the
Perseus display, and only on the 50 degree BOG.

for one of the first out-of-town logger :-)

Good that there was something to cheer because TAs aren't bringing up so
many surprises these days.

Well, there was no prize to be first, but well done!

I am definitely not cheering, as I gain a local on a good DX frequency. :-(

Lately, despite ordinary TA MW conditions here, there is always

[IRCA] TP for 12 Nov from Victoria, BC

2011-11-12 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Guy's description of conditions pretty much similar for here, minus 657 of
course, as it rarely survives the trip over the Vancouver Island mountains. I
made some recordings of tops of the hour earlier on, and 774 was pretty
consistent; it had CC talk at 0900UTC //747 (Chinese news per the NHK schedule
on the web, if I'm figuring it correctly and Babelfish can be believed), and
was almost always there when later recordings were checked, but didn't peak
until closer to sunrise.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

774 JOUB but not at this level until 1440UT w/ piano mx

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

747 JOIB at various times //774
828 JOBB //774 at 1441
1566 HLAZ man singing at 1459UT
1593 CNR-1 CC talk, pretty much always there from 1430UT onwards, though rarely
this strong (1444UT), and even then, quite murky. CNR pips on hour mixed with
NHK pips, though no other sign of NHK audio.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

594 JOAK
1503 JOUK //594 at 1458UT, woman talking

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

567 JOIK //594 1453UT, woman talking
693 JOAB //774 deep in CBU splash, 1430UT
873 JOGB //774 at 1440, piano mx
945 CNR1? hints of female talk that seemed parallel to but leading? 1593.
972 often a good strength carrier, but little audio

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

603, 702 rough het (N. Korea?), 1287 (a surprise)

Given that most of the big guns never made it to comfortable readability, this
could hardly have been called a good TP morning here

best wishes,
Nick

Hi Tony,

I'm also hearing NA 359 here (...and thanks for advising!). As you may
have learned, Icelandic MW has been shut down some months ago so
there's very little left to dx from up there. 189 still is definitely,
the most reliable frequency heard here.
