[IRCA] 910 question

2011-12-16 Thread Niel Wolfish
Had somebody playing Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's Carry On (from 1970) at
7:12 a.m. this morning on 910.   Surfaced for most (but not all) of the song.
Around local sunrise 910 here in Toronto it is usually WFDF (Radio Disney) and
WAVL (Liberty 910).  And WDOR Sturgeon Bay WI was heard a bit later at 8:00
a.m.   There was also some CW in there, which I assume was probably KCJB-Minot
ND, as I heard them around the same time two days ago.

Anybody care to guess who might have been playing the CSNY?  Perhaps WGTO
Cassopolis MI?

558 very poor
567 very poor/poor
594 very poor/poor
603 very poor/poor playing non-Asian music--Taiwan?
639 very poor/poor
648 poor, sounds more Asian than Russian to my uncalibrated ears

Neil,

KJJQ The Ranch in Volga, SD runs 500W directional with one lobe in

I've caught WGTO at their sunrise power up from here before KJJQ buries
them.

A note for the early birds in the CME to the west and not too far east
of here.

Here near Chicago I am more likely to get KCJB than KJJQ with country but could
be either. AB on 910 is extremely rare here, but the more northerly the bearing
from them gets the easier they seem which coincides with their night pattern.

[IRCA] My first two VA GYers logged from near Chicago

2011-12-16 Thread neilkaz
Using my current south antenna (just one of these rather than the array of two)
I recorded from 800 to 1600 KHz for about 30 minutes starting just after 5 pm
CST on Dec 14. CX seem to have been quite good towards my SE then.

http://realmonitor.com/tworidges/2xdoubleKAZ.pdf This is the version of the
DHDL antenna that I've modelled and continue to test that seems most
broadbanded for total BCB band coverage. Beamwidths are about 100 deg, which
compares to about 138 degrees for a single flag-type antenna at 15 degrees
above the horizon. Back null width is also greater than when using just a flag
and I get little off the back end unless it is normally very strong.

On 1230, I was surprised to see WABN mostly dominant and often listenable for a
while with oldies and ID's as WABN 1230 AM 103.3 FM at 1708 and 1714 CST.
During the same period I found WHHV sometimes atop 1400 but not as good and
with several ID's and address and phone number given. 73 KAZ Barrington IL
